At Marinette High School the school counselors work extremely hard to help students. My school counselor has even helped me overcome my own barriers and obstacles over the course of 4 years. These situations didn’t involve anything personal, such as emotions. However, there were still obstacles and barriers in other situations that my counselor helped me overcome. These include schedules for each year of school, finding and applying for scholarships, and finally getting into college. My school counselor has done a lot to help me through these obstacles and barriers.

When getting into college first I had to find the college I wanted to attend. My counselor helped with this by providing campus tours and information about all of the colleges in the state of Wisconsin. After I found the college I would be attending the application process started. During this my counselor helped me in many ways. I was helped throughout the application paperwork in areas I didn’t understand or wasn’t sure of. I was also helped with getting my transcripts sent to the college I was applying to. Thanks to my counselor the only thing I truly had to worry about was being accepted. My school counselor helped me overcome the barrier of getting accepted into college and everything that came with it, for instance with filling out financial aid paperwork. To conclude, my school counselor has helped me overcome multiple barriers and obstacles over the course of my time with her. Many of these barriers and obstacles have been big steps in my life and I am very thankful for her help. Being selected to be a candidate for membership in the Kenwood chapter of National Honor Society is a great honor for me. It means that I have achieved my goal of demonstrating my determination to be a part of something that appreciates and values students with exceptional qualities. I believe that I am able to become a valuable member of the NHS because I am hard working, reliable and I possess all the qualities required by this prestigious organization, such as scholarship, leadership, character, and service abilities. Over the years I have begun to realize that one of my best qualities is my determination.
With that being said, another counseling setting is college health services within a University and college setting. Before college mental health settings were founded, counseling psychologist provided therapy to students (Gladding & Newname, 2014, Pg. 380). A disadvantage with regard to the counseling response to student mental health concerns may be contingent to the size of the institution and the availability of the staff and resources. If hired at a larger university or college, you are usually better equipped to provide care for an array of development, emotional, and clinical issues, whereas smaller universities and colleges generally support the student facing clinical issues and working alongside clinical mental health agencies for more severe cases. On a positive note, the advantage to counseling at a university or college, the final focus is coaching.
School counselors provide information and support to students of all ages. They also help students make great choices
I learned how to adapt to the individual needs of students to provide them the best education. Like students with a communication disorder, many of my students would shy away from activities or tasks because of obstacles. Through these experiences, I watched my students gain the confidence to participate in activities and excel in academics to become successful individuals. As a future Speech Language Pathologist, many qualities that I possess can be improved by furthering my education.
When I first graduated high school I thought I wanted to be a pilot to fly airplanes, so I signed up to attend classes at Kishwaukee College located in DeKalb. ECC helped me sing up for classes at an in district rate because Elgin could not offer the courses that I wanted to me. During the first semester I found out that I did not want to become a pilot anymore and that I would be happier if I changed and focused on computer science. The advisors helped me schedule classes back at ECC for computer science then next semester. During the last year and a half at ECC I have been able to start fulfilling my education goals by getting a good education and find out what I want to go to college for.
and I wouldn’t get in. After getting accepted to Suny Morrisville and then to Suny Oneonta, I realized that no student planning his or her future should ever feel like I did. That is when I realized I wanted to be a school counselor.
As I grew older I knew the actions I had to take to accomplish my goals. Since I started college I have faced many obstacles but that was more of a reason to continue pushing myself and not give up. Many people in my life that I look up to are the reason why am here today accomplishing my career. What led me to college was high school, my mother and my family members; they had amazing advice to share with me.

Unable to do anything more to encourage me, my teacher introduced me to the school’s counselor. Meeting frequently with the school counselor, I slowly opened up to her and found a lot of new friends due to her constant support and advice. I believe that clinical counseling was what I needed, but I feel it could have been beneficial and helpful to receive support and acknowledgment from the professional school counselors on staff at our school. I believe that even if you feel like you may not be prepared to help a student it is important to at least acknowledge and address a students concern. I did not feel that I had a safe place to go at school when things were difficult because no one took time to acknowledge that I was not in the best
In this semester, I have been exposed to the subject of Introduction to Guidance and Counselling which is a new field of study for me. After I have received this lesson, I can relate my experiences with what I have learned. Not only that, I also have different perspective towards after I learned this subject. The aspects that I can relate my experiences and thoughts with are the differences between advice, guidance and counselling as well as the goals of counselling.
