Evaluate the factors that brought about the fall of the Roman Empire.
The Roman Empire was one of the largest and most powerful empires in all of history. They were so powerful that many aspects of Roman civilization influenced the cultures of people around the world and continued to do so even after its demise. The Ancient Romans were exceptional warriors and ruled over most of what is modern day Europe, Africa and Asia. Although it seemed that they could only profit from all the land they had amassed, it was quite the contrary and their gains marked the beginning of the end. The decline of the Roman Empire can be linked to host of reasons all of which are debated by historians. Of those reasons, the sheer size of the Roman Empire, the third century crisis and invasions in the hands of their enemies are at the forefront.
The total size of the Roman Empire contributed immensely to its collapse. The empire was too large to be protected by the Roman army, causing the army to become bigger and with it, military expenses. The Roman Empire also encompassed far too many different cultures to be united. The Roman Empire covered a total of over five million square kilometers.1 There were thirty legions stationed around the empire and each legion consisted of about 5,000 soldiers.2 This means that, on average, each soldier was in charge of over 7.08 square miles, a difficult task to undertake. Most people know of the city called Rome in Italy but did you know that Rome was a super powerful civilization for 1200 years? You may be wondering what caused such a great civilization to fall. What caused its sudden fall? The primary reasons for the fall of Rome were foreign invasions, an unstable government, and natural disasters. One reason for Rome's fall was caused by foreign invasions.
Another reason Rome fell is because Rome grew too large. Rome included so many different lands and people, it started to add even more problems for Rome's economy. When Rome's expansion slowed, other conquered lands and people couldn't be part of the Empire, making them not under Rome's control. When the Emperor tried so solve the problem by raising taxes, normal living citizens couldn't pay for them and became poor. Soon Rome became too big and couldn't pay for itself, so when it couldn't pay for itself, it couldn't control itself.
There were many different causes for the fall of the Roman empire, not just one. The Roman Empire was very strong, but eventually broke down over time for a multitude of reasons. Most of those reasons had to do with changes in Rome’s identity. Some of these changes in Rome’s identity led to the fall of Rome because they were so sudden; only portions of the Roman population were prepared for the change. Other times, citizens got into arguments because they were, in a way, too prepared.
The upper class of Rome gradually became more selfish and turned away from their jobs that once originally characterized their empire. Cultural decline caused by new commitments of the upper classes and lack of political authority also lead to the downfall of Rome. All these conflicts resulted in a spiral that steadily worsened. Explaining why the fall pf Rome left a bigger impact than the fall of the Han.
Fall of Rome DBQ Including most of the Mediterranean world, Rome, a city that was growing big enough to become one of the world’s largest empire’s would soon slowly fall apart because of their problems. In 27 BC, Rome’s first emperor, Augustus Caesar, took complete power. During his time, he ruled with Pax Romana, a time of Roman peace which lasted for almost 200 years. After his death, the Roman Empire begun to break apart. The primary reasons for the fall of Rome was it being geographically too big; the population was decreasing due to plagues which led to the Roman army becoming weak, social and military issues and laziness of the military would guide the army down which led to cities being lost, and their government and leadership issues of the weak or selfish power leaders would all conduct to the breaking up of Rome.
Rome was the most powerful and successful Empire in history. After the fall of Rome, an era called the Middle Ages came. Even though Rome fell, the Middle Ages still had roots in the classical heritage of Rome and the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church. Germanic Invaders destroyed Rome's economy, government, and culture. Learning declined and a common language was lost which resulted in the emergence of Germanic kingdoms.
The major reasons for the Fall of Rome were caused by its military mistakes, political instability, and their economic/civic decay. Before these events occurred, Rome was one of the wealthiest and greatest empires. The empire was led by a hero named Julius Caesar who helped Rome conquer land and defeat major rivals. As their government became more powerful as well as its empire, this led to the Pax Romana, a time of peace. The empire was peaceful and relaxed throughout its 3rd, 4th, and 5th century.
Imagine the world's biggest statue ever begin to fall apart over many years. Essentially this is what happened to Rome. There were many reasons why this happened. There were three signifi cant reasons for the “fall” of Rome which include a weakening military, foreign invaders, and the most important of the three, natural disasters. One important reason that Rome fell was there weakening military.
The Roman empire was one of the most powerful or the most powerful empire in ancient times. A portion of this can be credited to its location in an area with good geography and climate. However, once the empire was vast enough its geography varied quite a bit. It went from the moderate climate of northern Italy too much warmer climates in northern Africa. In Italy, the central part of the empire, stood the city of Rome.
In closing, there are five factors that led to the decline of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. Many different things caused the fall. There is no one answer to why it happened. It is very probable, however that the fall was inevitable. It was going to happen because the society was going to grow out of the republic.
The Fall of the Western Roman Empire The Western Roman Empire was an inspiring empire that mastered architecture, engineering, trading, and many other things. But as the empire grew political problems went with it and followed economic issues, diseases and eventually foreign invaders. One of the main reasons for the fall of the Western Roman Empire was the many political problems.
The Western Roman Empire fell in 476 AD. There were many factors that went into the fall of the Roman Empire. Economic problems they dealt with was one of the main reasons the Empire fell. Since the romans were not doing good Economically they could not fund the military in order to protect them, which also led to the fall of their military. Socio-Political problems were also a factor; there was a decline in interest to public affairs.
How did an empire so big and powerful fall apart after all of the work and planning that was put into it? The once powerful Roman Empire fell apart for various reasons, such as the over expansion of land and military overspending which led to inadequate man power to cover all of the frontiers and insufficient funds. Also, the corrupt government system of the empire and the instability of its politics for an empire so large, the government was not fit to control
The Fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most memorable setbacks of one of the greatest civilizations to ever exist. Many theories have been said as to the cause of the empire’s fall but, even today, there are still unanswered discussions on what the specific factors were. There are numerous of factors that contributed to the empire’s fall such as the effectiveness of their army, the health of its citizens, the strength of the economy, the capability of the successors, the continuous battle for power, religion and the regulation of their administration. The Fall of Rome was started with the decline in Western Roman Empire where the emperors failed to maintain their rule. The lost of power of the West let alone East was a great threat to the empire but the theme of the decline has been discussed and changed through a much bigger time frame from year 376.
