Introduction “VA’s mission is to promote the health, welfare, and dignity of all veterans in recognition of their service to the nation by ensuring that they receive medical care, benefits, social support, and memorials.” (Information Security: Veterans Affairs Needs to Resolve Long-Standing Weaknesses, 2010, p.1) The VA information system security program (ISSP) aims to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability (CIA) of the VA’s information systems and business process. This program provides information of plans, policies and procedures to protect the VA’s system user’s privacy data. Also according to the Department of Veterans Affairs: Information Security Program (2007) this program provides a detailed list of the security …show more content…
“These categories will enable information that requires security to be consistent, whether in a mainframe, client/server, workstation, file cabinet, desk drawer, waste basket, or in the mail.” ("Department of Veterans Affairs: Information Security Program," 2007) This is why the VA has categorized their information in the following three categories: 1) VA Sensitive Data/Information-which includes the individual identifiable information and health information. The impact level of sensitive information is considered high. 2) Administratively Confidential Information- also known as any information uses daily in the VA and that cannot be classified as sensitive or public like Operational business information and reports, Non-VA information that is subject to a nondisclosure agreement with another company and VA phone books. Once a strategic plan is in place Policies and procedures need to be implemented so that your employees are aware of how we will meet our goals. In the VA strategic plan for 2010-2014 their goals were people-centric, results-driven, and forward-looking. With these goals they were looking to “ increase Veterans’ access to benefits, eliminate the disability claims backlog, and end the rescue phase of Veteran homelessness.” (Department of Veterans Affairs: Strategic Plan FY 2010-2014, 2010) This strategic plan has driven the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to focus even more on other areas that need attention. The strategic plan for 2014-2020 focuses on first, empowering veterans to improve their well-being. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs FY 2014-2020 Strategic Plan (2014) they are driven to end Veteran homelessness by 2015, help them improve their career readiness to reduce unemployment and obtain a more personalized patient driven health care. Second, VA will be enhancing and Developing Trusted Partnerships with the DoD and Non- profit organizations, among others so that they can better serve our veteran’s needs. Lastly, VA would like to manage and improve VA Operations to Deliver Seamless and Integrated Support so that it can become a place where you would like to
Standard 6: In military environment there are medical records of patients. Printing out the lab work or information of medications is done elsewhere, since there is not a printer close by my computer. These records are privileged papers because it is a baseline bloodwork for the program. Before handing the papers to the participant we have them tell me their full name and last four of their social security.
In order to realize this goal, the VBA established, as one of its goals, the necessity to “Empower employees to serve Veterans reliably, efficiently and with compassion”. Nested under this goal, VBA identified the objective to “Optimize processing capacity to meet the forecasted demand for services”. This initiative will focus on adopting descriptive identifiers for the VBA workload, which clearly indicates the type of work performed. Additionally, this initiative will provide greater definition and clarity to the system of broad categories, which is currently in place.
Veterans and our soldiers are coming home from war or getting out of the military and when they get home they can’t afford rent or they have a mental disease from war. Homeless veterans tend to experience homelessness longer than non-veteran homeless. This should not be happening to our soldiers. This is very undesirable for our troops to come home and becoming homeless. They fight for our freedom and our rights and we repay them by becoming homeless.
Reporting analysis to those interested and providing market and vendor analysis will also be addressed. Information Security and Privacy in Healthcare Environments (IS555) This course deals with physical and technical secure storage of information, processing, and retrieving the information, and the distinct regulations to the healthcare
An Overview of Veterans Affairs Benefits for Family Members The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) does not only provide benefits to military veterans. Veterans ' spouses, children, and parents can benefit from the resources that the VA provides. Many of these benefit programs have specific eligibility requirements for claimants.
Helping our veterans should be mandatory because of their sacrifice. Even though some people believe war veterans acquire enough from the Government, others believe they deserve more for their services. Veterans of the United States of America should not be homeless since they fought for our country with a sense of bravery and commitment. Therefore, the Department of Veterans Affairs should be reconstructed, also expanded to meet the growing need of our veterans.
The far-reaching powers of the Patriot Act has substantially empowered our law enforcement agencies and allowed them to apprehend many offenders who otherwise would have gotten away with their crimes. Despite it being contradictious to the fourth amendment of the US constitution, it is not only helping prevent disastrous events in our nation but also equally instrumental in protecting American lives and defending civil liberties. After the endorsement of the Patriot Act, the tools and power it provided to our law enforcement agencies has enhanced our domestic security. This act tore down the legal and bureaucratic walls that would otherwise keep the law enforcement agencies from being able to share vital information freely about the terrorist’s
First, chief information officer, human resources and classification staff should identify encumbered and vacant positions with information technology, cybersecurity and cyber-related functions. Each position will receive one of OPM’s revised, three-digit Cybersecurity Data Standard Codes. The previous codes were two digits. “CIO staff will have perspectives on where cybersecurity work is being accomplished across the agency, how to interpret the work roles described in the Cybersecurity Data Standard Codes and what expectations the agency has regarding information technology, cybersecurity and cyber-related functions, skills, requirements, etc.,” the guidance said.
Veteran Benefits The issue of veteran benefits in the United States is not taken as seriously as it should be in our country, even though it is a growing problem that needs to be addressed. The lack of available funding for veterans is especially obvious when compared to that available for lower income citizens, or even illegal immigrants. Also, what does exist appears to fall short in taking care of veteran’s needs. Considering that these veterans are people who have risked their lives fighting for this country, the fact that they are not receiving immediate benefits or even what they have earned is unfair.
“Veteran poverty should be unimaginable, but sadly, it is an unpleasant fact today for some veterans” (“The Ugly Face of Veteran Poverty in the United States”). Many homeless veterans are not getting the support they need. People need to be witness to this injustice and stand up for it. “The kind of hope we need is an orientation of the spirit a willingness to position ourselves sometime, someway, someplace in hopeless spaces and be a witness and say something” (Stevenson). Veterans are living in horrible conditions after serving in the military because the government is not providing enough support for veterans.
Veterans are some of the bravest men and women that you will ever know. They fought for our country in our most desperate hours and risked their lives so we could have the chance to live ours. It is such a shame that they are ignored and even homeless in today 's society. I had wondered how we could get veterans of the street and back into the job world. After research I found that there are programs and methods put in place specifically to help these struggling veterans.
Our Warriors Today there is an outrage in our Veteran community of how terrible the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and their lack of caring and funding for our heroes. In this paper I will give facts on how terrible this problem really is, whether it is our homeless Veterans, Veterans who die waiting for help from the VA because they cannot afford other healthcare, or the horrid waiting times in order to get any help.
The US has grappled with many questions about society’s obligations as to whether or not to offer services and benefits to the men and women in the armed forces. Supporters argue that helping veterans will help the society as whole and opponents argue that we shouldn’t be increasing our federal government spending in repaying veterans. Although I do see where people can argue that we are spending too much money on helping veterans after war, I believe that the government owes them for what they have done for the country, despite the cost. The government owes certain benefits to veterans because the men and women in the armed forces deserve to be welcomed home with a generous system of services for what they have done for the country. Helping veterans goes way back all the way to the 1600s.
Essentially a strategic plan is an extensive inspection at where the organization is, where it wants to be, and how it can get there. The
