The men and women who served in the Revolutionary War often did so to improve their lives, whether it was out of necessity or due to false promises of fame and fortune. Pensions were often promised to encourage enlistment and keep men from quitting, and while the new source of income was incredibly beneficial, the number of problems faced by those who served outweighed the money gained. Men lost their lives, friends, families, and time, and all the government could do was give them a few dollars every now and then. In order to receive the pension, those who served were required to fill out an application that proved their service and would indicate how much money one would get in return.

Helping our veterans should be mandatory because of their sacrifice. Even though some people believe war veterans acquire enough from the Government, others believe they deserve more for their services. Veterans of the United States of America should not be homeless since they fought for our country with a sense of bravery and commitment. Therefore, the Department of Veterans Affairs should be reconstructed, also expanded to meet the growing need of our veterans.

Ninety-eight years ago, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice was declared between Germany and the Allied Nations in World War I. One year later, it was celebrated as Armistice Day to honor the cause of world peace. After World War II and the Korean War, it was renamed Veterans Day, dedicated to American veterans from any war. The transition from Armistice Day to Veterans Day seems appropriate, for we would not have peace if we did not have veterans. But the implication that veterans are mere preservers of order is a vast misrepresentation; they do much more for our nation.

America experienced a high time of economic growth and rapid social rights since 1945 and this had brought significant changes to U.S. society till the twentieth century. After World War II, America had introduced GI Bill to ensure all returning armed forces had assistance in advance education system, providing them with on-job trainings, mortgages subsides and low interest loans which encouraged them in starting up a business or even affording new houses. In contrast with World War I fluctuations of recession in economic growth, the government did focus more on veterans by aiding them with a range of welfares which include “fifty-two weeks of unemployment benefits” (Boyer et al., 2013, p. 662). This is one major adjustment for America’s economy in further building a stronger population of middle class.

Thousands of people join our military and risk their lives to fight for their country. After many years of fighting in war, soldiers are no longer who they used to be. Upon their return home, they are looked down upon, treated badly, and aren’t given the treatment needed to recover. The struggles and obstacles these veterans face on their journey home and once they arrive forever face. In the epic poem, Odyssey by Homer, it shows the obstacles a soldier has to face on their journey.

In the article a world without work it is shown just how important labor is for not just veterans but all americans across the country, “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. veteran population was more than 21 million strong as of 2014.”, that 's 7% of the entire American population in 2014. This may not seem like a very large number but about 360,000 military members leave the service each year creating the need for more jobs. The problem with a lack of jobs for veterans is rooted at the lack of awareness of just how valuable these people are in the workforce. It has been found that veterans can bring leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to learn new skills more quickly than the average job

Veteran’s Benefits Veteran’s pay a heavy price for our freedom, but do we in turn repay them back? Once veteran’s return home they receive several benefits, such as education, disability compensation, and low-cost medical care. Each are specific due to how they benefit each veteran, but not all are capable of fully providing the veteran. Veterans receive benefits based on discharge from active military service other than dishonorable conditions. Active service must be serving full time as a member under several branches, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, or as a commissioned officer of the Public Health Service, Environmental Services Administration or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Soldiers had fought hard for America in WWII, had seen things that could not be unseen and now they were finally coming home with a victory. When they came back, the men that went to war needed jobs, housing, and some even still needed education. Being a soldier was their job full-time prior to the victory and now it was time to come back to work, however, many of the jobs were created from the war to help the war effort. This left some unemployed and the GI Bill supplied the veterans of the second World War with unemployment insurance. Although, researchers Larsen, McCarthy, Moulton, Page, and Patel (2015) describe one of the main purposes of the GI Bill as to provide the returning veterans with a paid education including books, supplies, and counseling that the veterans needed to complete and education.

Secondly, some veterans will come back from war and if they were shot or experienced heavy damage to the head, they can have severe brain injuries and when they’re homeless and they don’t have much help, that can be horrible for the homeless veterans. In the United States, serving in the military is seen as a model of true patriotism, and rightfully so. Service members train for 10 weeks in their transition from civilian to a soldier. They train to be able to endure all the hardships that may come their way. Service members have to be in the best physical shape to serve and because of all that they do, they are thought of as brave and selfless people. Service members make extreme sacrifices to defend our country and act selflessly by doing so; it is fitting that they are seen as heroes by many Americans.

In the United States thousands of veterans are not able to leave behind the horrors and traumatic events they experience while at war. They bring the war home and have to re-experience it in their minds each and every day, no matter how much time has passed since their last battle or traumatic

In this essay I want to portray the message of how many veterans of war are being left to fend for themselves when they return home, and struggle to restart their lives. I want to demonstrate the fact that Veterans are suffering with economic and PTSD, and they will continue to do so until drastic changes are made. I would address the United States Government-specifically the department of domestic affairs- thus hoping to change the current situation as quickly as possible, due to the fact that the branch that this essay is directed towards have an enormous amount of power. The research I will present will be based off the plethora of U.S. census data; indicating that the problem at hand is one that the government has verified. As well as using data to support poverty, I will gather sources from other wars such as Iraq to show how this poverty among veterans has entered a domino effect.
