The employability of nursing care professionals was considered to be high in the previous years, however, in today new challenging world, everyone especially those fresh graduates are in neck-to-neck competition in hunting for a job. In Malaysia, according to Ministry of Higher Education about 24% of graduates were unemployed in 2012. Employability as defined by Minten and Forsyth (2014) is the capability to move self-sufficiently within the labor market to realize potential through sustainable employment. In the other hand, employability according to Yorke (2006) as a unit of achievements, skill, competences, understanding and personal characteristics that enable graduates to get employment so they are successful in their chosen occupation. Nursing is known as a profession that involve theory and skills in delivering health care to the patients. However, private colleges that are mushrooming nowadays had made public doubted on competency and skills from those graduates. This case study highlights the conflict that can arise between nurse practitioners (NP) and physicians due to lack of proper communication, poor physician attitude, and lack of respect. Clarin (2007) labels these items as barriers that inhibit effective collaborative care and ultimately hinders the goal of medical institutions. In this case study, the way that the physician treated the new NP encourages other physicians in the practice or staff members that it is acceptable to treat another provider in this manner. This poor behavior will continue the cycle of disrespect and distrust when we should be collaborating with one another in the healthcare field. Not to mention, creates an unhealthy work environment.
Nursing can be competitive and without the experience and practice, managers will not want to hire an individual because they have no experience. The article “Supporting Newly Hired Nurses” states “[n]ewly hired nurses struggle with application of new clinical skills and critical thinking skills as well as integrating into unit culture.” Newly graduated nurses have to adapt fast to the nursing environment and what is involved which can be difficult and overwhelming. This nurse’s plan as a registered nursing and student is to become an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) with a specialty certification in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). The geographical area in the state of California is in a community with patients having health disparities and it is an underserved population. Healthy people 2020 identified patients with healthy disparities as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, personnel living in nursing homes with disabilities, individuals living in rural areas, and women households with children (Centers for Disease and Control, 2015). The writer’s role as a FNP working in these underserved population will include doing assessments, diagnosis and treatments of common conditions, as well as preventative care services such as ordering laboratory work, medical tests, and prescriptions (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2015; National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, n.d).

A nurse needs to have good grammar in order to be well understood by others if you use slang while writing maybe a patient will not understand what you’re trying to say. Also when it comes to speaking in my profession you need to sound very professional otherwise it would sound as if you have no knowledge of what you’re speaking of whatsoever. When speaking to a patient you need to sound very professional and find the right words watch the audience your speaking to because not everyone understands the same way. Also editing skills are important because if you don’t write properly then a patient or the doctor will not be able to comprehend what it says so write out the whole word don’t leave it half way not everyone understands that. Use proper grammar at all times that way you will always have the right communication
