After 10 years working as a registered nurse in many aspects of healthcare, felt an overwhelming desire to advance my career and myself to expand my role in caring for others. Becoming a nurse practitioner has always been a goal of mine. During my time working as a nursing manager, I became acutely aware of the need of skilled and talented providers that desire to provide passionate care to all individuals. I became especially concerned with the needs those with limited access to healthcare services. I knew my desire to care for individuals in a more autonomous role and I set out to develop the skills needed to meet the need I witnessed.

As I embark on my journey to become a registered nurse at the master's level, I anticipate significant changes in my role and responsibilities. As a registered nurse, I will transition from a student nurse to a fully licensed healthcare professional. This transition entails a shift from primarily observing and assisting in patient care to taking on a more independent and autonomous role in providing comprehensive care to individuals, families, and communities. The standards for my new role as a registered nurse are established by professional nursing organizations, regulatory bodies, and healthcare institutions.

I am particularly keen to study at the Master in Sciences of Nursing with Family Nurse Practitioner program at South University, because the school reputation of excellence. The high standards of all programs attract such a variety of students and I believe it will be a stimulating environment in which to study at master’s level. The institution also provides exceptional working facilities for graduated students which demonstrate school’s commitment to the students. The Advanced MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner’s Program is an tremendous platform upon which I could build a new professional life and a better future for myself and my family. My upbringing, work and education thus far have helped define who I am, and who I would like to become.

With the continued change and increased complexity of the identity of the nurse it has led to the confusion as to what role nurses play – are they caregivers or clinicians? With the continued evolution of nurses professional identity nurses have moved away from the feminine role of just merely caring and have moved towards taking on more masculine role which have traditionally been associated with power. As traditionally power is mainly associated with masculinity and caring, which is the core value of nursing, as associated with femininity. They choose to dedicate themselves to the care of others” Growing up in Nigeria; I had my first introduction to the field of medicine at the age of 6. At the time, my grand father was a holistic doctor at my local community. Whenever my grandfather went to work, he would take me with him and I remembered being very fascinated by how people would come in to get treatments for different kinds of diseases.

In 1870, nursing had been learnt from the mothers to the daughters. Now it has been changed to the school education that the students learn the nursing skill from the nursing professionals and the education programs of nursing keep developing from the 1900s to now that the diploma school has been changed to BSN, AND, and the postgraduate school has also been replaced by Master degree, CNL, PhD, DNSc, ND and DNP (Martha, n.d.). Therefore, the people have more chance to learn and be the nurse. Education programs also produce more and more professional nurses for the world to develop the nursing profession. Nursing education provides the nursing theories and practical training for the students to help them learn the knowledge of nursing and their duties, in order to protect patient safety and the safety of the public.

Introduction: As a first year student I have very specific goals in mind that I hope to achieve through my work in college. My main hopes for the future are that I pass all of my exams in the coming years, graduate and receive my honours degree in general nursing, become a registered nurse and finally get a job as a nurse. Introduction Nursing in its entire essence is not only a profession per se but is actually a vocation. A humbling and a rewarding profession that needs a good heart to be able to perform and needs a degree of commitment, discipline and responsibility not only for oneself and also for others. As nurses place value on their commitment to serve, they are also bounded by the profession to be accountable and responsible of ones actions. There is that moral aspect that nurses owe to themselves, to their colleagues and to the community they serve. All nurses same as with other professionals, undertake their practice in accordance to a code of ethics and legal practice which is acceptable to the norms of service to the society.

It is a profession in which teamwork between healthcare providers is essential to provide safe and appropriate care to all patients. I believe that nursing is a profession for me, and will continue to expand my knowledge as a nurse by educating myself, growing from past nursing opportunities, applying knowledge, and learning from patients and their families. My vision is to continue to develop my knowledge and grow as a nurse. As I continue to grow and learn about nursing, I believe that my philosophy will evolve with every new experience and will positively impact the client population. I trust that my philosophy of nursing will have a positive impact on my clients as my goal is to consistently provide competent, safe nursing care to all which is culturally safe.

The nursing population had been in the public spotlight in the past few years. From recognising the contributions of nurses during the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak to surfacing reports of abuse of elderly patients in nursing homes, the profession of nursing has been under scrutiny by society.
