The purpose of this paper is to describe how nursing’s philosophical foundations influence nursing practice and my personal philosophy. My Philosophy I have always viewed nursing as an art; throughout history, nurses have derived conceptual models and theories from other disciplines to create nursing theories and apply them to clinical practice. “As nursing theoretical thinking has evolved, there has been a need to embrace both the practical aspects of practice while dealing with those questions that have classically been the purview of philosophy” (Pesut & Johnson, 2007, p. 116).

Each theory has a specific purpose and varies in how abstract, formal, and restrictive it is. There has been a movement from focus on grand theory to middle range theory over time. As the world continues to evolve and develop it is important for nursing theory to do the same. As grand theory is becoming smaller middle range theory is growing. (Smith & Parker, 2015).

What is the profession of nursing? [and] What do nurses do?”. (Black, 2017, pp. 178). Having this knowledge provides focus for our roles as nurses, as well a purpose for our practice.

W-7 – PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES 1. I chose these competences because as a nurse it is vital to maintain professional boundaries and still be able to provide the therapeutic care without personally getting attached to patients. 2. From the article I learned that it is ok to be present with your patient, and caring about what they might be going through as you provide necessary care and support, but not to excessively worrying about a patient in your personal life/home” (p. 407) 3.
One mistake can be caught on camera by those who are distrustful of nurses. Overall, Fowler article was extremely unsuccessful at pusadering her audience to take action and become a part of policy making in healthcare because of her structural errors and usage of irrelevant sources in a failed attempt to build credibility with her audience. Fowler’s structural weaknesses in her organization and thesis statement was not persuasive, thus leaving her readers confused. Fowler first begins her article with background information about her topic, stating the history of Nursing. She outlines extensive details about the founding of the code of ethics for three paragraphs, which was not necessary for her argument.
As discipline , we associate it as "professional" in which higher education and gaining a advanced knowledge to practice and function is require. (Dossey & Keegan,2009). However, from the perspective from the society, nurses may just a low skilled worker, as a vocation a domestic labour as such changing diapers are viewed for the patient . To change society 's viewpoint involved with menial task like , nurses need to know what is the discipline of nursing is, to understand "what are we" instead of conforming to the image of what society believe to be.
