What was supposed to be a cheerful Christmas night, turned out to be a living nightmare for the Ramsey family. More than two decades ago, on December 26, 1996, six year-old beauty pageant queen, JonBenet Ramsey, was discovered deceased in her basement. The Ramsey family lived in a luxurious home located in Boulder, Colorado. On the night of JonBenet’s murder, the Ramseys realized their daughter was missing. Later that night, Patsy Ramsey, JonBenet’s mother, discovered a ransom note. The ransom note made tensions even higher in the household and that is when Patsy allegedly called police. Over the last twenty-two years, investigators have tried to determine who was behind the murder; however, they did not have enough evidence to solve the case. …show more content…
However, when Patsy wrote with her left hand for the police department to analyze similarities, results were shocking. Patsy had to write for the police several times for accurate results. Another major detail is brought up regarding the ransom note and where Patsy found it the morning of her daughter’s death. The first account of Patsy Ramsey explaining where she found the ransom note was described as, “Patricia Ramsey told him at first that she had gone into JonBenet’s room at about 5:45 to wake her up…” When Patsy spoke about when and where she found the ransom note later on, she claimed that she had found it on their staircase then proceeded to go check on JonBenet. It is very difficult to believe that Patsy would have different stories about what happened on a morning that would be so eventful (Calgary). In the long two page ransom note, the writer said to give them $118,000 for the safe return of JonBenet. This specific number is very interesting considering John Ramsey had recently got a raise that was around this same amount (Dayton Daily News). Who else could’ve known about this amount of money (Osborne 21)? The ransom note also contained various references …show more content…
Results of the autopsy explain that JonBenet was killed by strangulation and from blunt force trauma to the head. The strangulation was from a cord found within the Ramsey house (Orlando Sentinel). There was also a flashlight found at the crime scene. As mentioned, there was blunt force trauma to JonBenet’s head and it’s important to note that with the right force, someone could easily use a flashlight and it would match up perfectly with the trauma. Due to the circumstances of her discovery, some investigators suspect Burke may have hit his sister with the flashlight and then used his toy train to try and poke to see if she was conscious. The marks from the toy train matched up with JonBenet’s inflicted wounds on her skin. However, DNA has not been matched with anyone! It is interesting that the murderer would not bring his/her own weapon instead of using an item that was in the Ramsey house.
New DNA could lead to more clues in the investigation, Biography stated this, “In July 2008, new "touch DNA" technology seemed to exonerate all members of JonBenét’s family in the 1996 killing,” ("JonBenét Ramsey"). With the new technology, we have today DNA can be taken and tested in a couple days of a crime, it is also very reliable. Not to mention all the pressure put on the parents of the family, finding DNA other than their families was a relief. The DNA found led police away from the family, CNN Library stated,“Early suspicion fell on her parents, but they were exonerated after DNA at the scene was found to belong to a male unrelated to the Ramsey family,” ("JonBenet Ramsey"). Since the DNA did not match to any of the family members, they now have to find who actually committed the crime.
Also, the detective notice the handwriting was similar to Patsy Ramsey, in which it brought some concerns. Immediately, an investigative team set up a surveillance throughout the room of JonBenet’s room. In there they notice an indentation
The object that was used to hit JonBenet over the head was never found, but there are a few theories about it. One theory is that the night before, JonBenet stole some of Burke’s snack and he got angry. So angry that he took a heavy duty flashlight and hit her hard enough to fracture her skull. After JonBenet was found to be unconscious or dead, Patsy and John tried to cover up what Burke had done. This theory is plausible, because the garrote that was used was part of one of Patsy’s broken paintbrushes, there was a heavy duty flashlight that was seen on the Ramsey’s counter, and the ransom note and its draft were from one of Patsy’s note pads.
In Jonbenét Ramsey’s autopsy, in the digestive tract, were small increments of pineapple. Jonbenét may have taken a piece of pineapple using her hands, causing Burke to release all of his anger. Burke, in an uncontrollable rage, would strike Jonbenét Ramsey in the head with the flashlight in the kitchen. With all of this evidence point to Burke Ramsey as the murderer, there is a shunned theory that an outsider infiltrated the Ramsey household and killed Jonbenét
December 26, 1996, Boulder Colorado, the day after Christmas, six-year JonBenet Ramsey is found dead in her basement with a three-page handwritten ransom note demanding $118,000, from someone claiming they kidnapped JonBenet and they would receive a call the next morning at at 10am, the note was addressed to John Ramsey and asked for the exact amount of John's Christmas bonus that year (Casarez). She died of a skull fracture and strangulation and nobody knows who killed her; her mom parents, John and Patricia Ramsey, were under much suspicion for her murder and to some people still are today. JonBenet had a big brother named Burke, and he’s one of the most suspected people; he was only 9 years old at the time of her death so it’s very unlikely he killed his little sister. Burke stayed quiet about her death for a long time but 20 years later in 2016 he spoke for the first time to CBS.
The death of Jonbenet became national news worldwide and so did the investigation. Lots of questions and assumptions were investigated but her killer was never found. Jonbenet Ramsey “was a 6-year old beauty queen who was found murdered in her parents’ Boulder, Colorado home on December 26, 1996”(biography.com). JonBenet’s mother was a beauty pageant queens as well. “Ramsey won her first competition in 1994 at just four years old at the Colorado State All-Star Kids Pageant.
At the end of the garrote was a broken paintbrush that appeared to be from Pasty Ramsey’s art set. Dr. John Meyer, who performed the autopsy, concluded JonBenet’s cause of death was suffocation in conjunction with forcible trauma to the skull (Casarez). A reexamination of the DNA evidence using new technology found an unidentified male’s DNA on JonBenet’s underpants. (“JonBenet Ramsey’s Brother Breaks Silence 20 Years After Her Murder”). After that, the case turned from a kidnapping to a
JonBenét Ramsey was just six years old when she was beaten and strangled in her family's Colorado home. More than two centuries later, her killer remains a mystery. Many mistakes were made during this case, and many suspects that weren’t investigated as much as they were supposed to led this case to go in mystery of the real guilty one amongst them. Much evidence could’ve helped, and it was right under their noses about who killed JonBenet Ramsey on Christmas night. Many mistakes were made during this case; however, they were found out after the case was coming to a closing.
What the authorities know about the 1996 murder case of Jonbenét Ramsey, was that she was killed by asphyxiation (JB, A3), she was found in the basement of her home, on her back, duct tape binding her arms, and covering her mouth. (A&E, B1). She was
She had abrasions on her neck that matched a stun gun the police found. John Ramsey, a very rich man, may have bought the stun gun and used it on JonBenet in order to get her to the basement without any resistance or noise. John could have killed his daughter in many different ways on the night of December 26. Even with a sufficient amount of misleading red herrings, one could speculate the truth through the emotional and social side of the Ramsey’s
Still to this day, the question remains: who was the killer? Many believe it is JonBenét’s own mother, Patsy Ramsey. There is numerous evidence that point to Patsy being the killer. There is a theory that JonBenét’s mother strangled her daughter after accidentally causing a serious wound to her head. Did Patsy Ramsey murder her own daughter on Christmas
JonBenet Ramsey who was a young loving beauty queen of Colorado, who’s live was taken way too early. JonBenet was murdered in her home in Boulder Colorado on December 26, 1996 at the age of six. After completing my research, I was able to make a prediction of who I believed murdered the incent child, and it did not take much research to see the mistakes made by the Boulder Police Department. The Boulder Police Department made numerous mistakes in the JonBenet Ramsey case.
Six-year-old, JonBenet Ramsey was an award winning beauty pageant queen with a promising future, until she was brutally murdered on December 26, 1996 in the basement of her Boulder, Colorado home. The perennial Ramsey case has remained unsolved for over twenty years. Some theories suggest that the case has remained unsolved because of police missteps, while other theories point to family members or extreme media coverage of the case that pressured the investigators to pursue the case hastily, resulting in sloppy work. Though there are many theories about who killed JonBenet and how, the theory of her brother, Burke, makes the most logical sense.
Detective Linda Arndt told fleet White and JonBenet’s father, John Ramsey, to search around to see if anything was out of line. The two men searched around the house until they reached the wine cellar in the basement. In there, they discovered JonBenet’s body. With a fractured skull and a bruised neck from stranglement, JonBenet was pronounced dead.
The girls body however was found in the basement later that afternoon. JonBenet’s skull had been fractured, she had been sexually assaulted, she was strangled with a garrote made from one of patsy’s paintbrushes. The police suspected that the ransom note had been written by Patsy and the ransom note and the appearance of the child’s body had been staged by her parents in order to cover up the crime. Apparently JonBenet's official cause of death was asphyxia a by strangulation. Her death was classified as
