Right now people are discussing the importance of physical education from years 8-12. Some people believe it is important because it can reduce obesity rates and make children fitter. However, there are some people that think physical education is not important and it should be the choice of the student, or that it would have no effect on obesity rates. One of the most important issues with teenagers these days is obesity. Australia has been ranked as one of the highest countries in obesity, and it has been doubling in size in the previous 20 years. Australian Bureau Statistics supported this by stating “In 2011-12, 62.8% of Australians aged 18 years and over were overweight or obese, comprised of 35.3% overweight and 27.5% obese.” This statement …show more content…
Firstly, it keeps children physically active. Laziness these days is one of the biggest problems for teenagers. Teenagers seem more interested in their phones than being healthy. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (2015) supported this statement by saying that “childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents over the past 30 years.” This statement indicates this generation of children are becoming more inactive, and that is worrying because it could lead to health issues. Having P.E be compulsory in years 8-12 will help children possess a healthy life for not only when they are teenagers, but throughout their adult years. However, not only does it help with a healthy life, it also helps to prevent life threatening diseases or body difficulties when you’re older such as back pain, diabetes, heart disease and …show more content…
Physical education may be very beneficial for student’s health, but it really should be the student’s choice. There are some students that aren’t the best at physical education and are behind in grades. Although helpful for people’s health, this is unfair to make it compulsory especially when they aren’t good at it. When year 11’s and 12’s are doing SACE subjects, for people that aren’t that skilled in physical education they would be wasting a subject where they could actually be doing something they enjoy and something they’re good at. Doing that would then bring their ATAR score down and perhaps prevent them from getting the right marks for the university of their choice. Debatewise agreed by indicating that “Students should be allowed a choice. Lots of children don’t want to do this. If their parents agree, why should they be forced to (or forced to lie in producing a sick note)?” This statement shows that if the student and the parents do not wish for the student to do physical education, why should
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Melbourne, Victoria) Obesity Australia reports that one in three women are overweight or obese when they become pregnant, of grave concern as moms carrying excess weight during pregnancy are prone to complications. Women who fall into this category carry a higher risk of pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes and/ or high blood pressure. In addition, children born to women who are overweight tend to be heavier, leading to the lead for more emergency interventions at the time of delivery. Women wishing to lose weight before or during pregnancy should consult with their doctor and determine if The Healthy Life Project, a Free Weight loss Program, is right for them. "The Need Vs Want Healthy Life Project strives to help individuals change their life in a positive way, while adding years to their life.
PE should not be mandatory because many kids are embarrassed or scared of getting made fun of by other students, skipping school because of P.E, and eating healthy also impacts your health and not just running and playing with jump ropes. “Teasing/bullying could happen with overweight kids because they are not as “athletic” as others or can't run as fast/keep up” (Wong). If students don't eat healthy but do physical activities, they should not expect to lose weight and become more athletic. Many students don't realize that eating healthy has such a huge impact on their health that they won't see a difference in their athletic ness. Many kids feel like they don't fit in because they don't train their bodies and aren't physically active, unlike
Over the last few decades, obesity rates have increased by a large margin. In the 1970s, only five-percent of American youth were considered obese. However, as of 2017, this percentage has increased to nineteen percent. Many blame fast food chains for this epidemic, but fail to recognize that a large portion of American eating habits are also a major contributor to the issue at hand, specifically the amount of food that is consumed. The average calorie intake in the 1970s was around two thousand per day, but in 2010 it was twenty-five hundred calories.
Why are sports offered in middle and high school, but not elementary school? One may think that sports in elementary school sports would be pointless, but when examined in depth, there are many benefits to introducing sports earlier in a child’s life. School sports should be introduced in elementary school because they can prevent obesity, build social skills, and provide a positive use of time. First and foremost, participation in school sports can help to prevent obesity. When one participates in physical activity, it is obviously well known to burn fat.
Kids love sports, if kids like sports and sports are in school, they will want to stay in school. This means that barely any kids will drop out of school. Also, kids will live happy if they know that they will be playing sports for free. What if some kids want to play sports but they can't? They won't be able to play and may drop out, it is not fair to the student.
Moreover, “[m]ore than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese” (CDC). Obesity also varies among ethnic, for example, “non-Hispanic blacks have the highest age-adjusted rates of obesity (47.8%) followed by Hispanics (42.5%), non-Hispanic whites (32.6%), and non-Hispanic Asians (10.8%)” (CDC). Obesity is also seen higher between middle age adults, “40-59 years old (39.5%) than among younger adults, age 20-39 (30.3%) or adults over 60 or above
More than one in three young people are considered to be obese. More than one in twenty young people are considered to have maximum obese. About one-third of kids and teenagers ages between 6 to 19 are considered to be either overweight or obese. More than one in six kids and teenagers ages between 6 to 19 are considered to be obese. All these numbers refer to a serious issue in
For children the Health Survey for England (HSE) from 2014 showed that 17% of children were obese and 14% were overweight. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges has warned that obesity is “ the biggest public health crisis facing the UK today.” Tackling the obesity epidemic is no easy task but various groups including, government, food and health care professionals have made attempts to highlight and address the causes of it, and try to suggest solutions to this growing problem. In 2013, 220 000 doctors in the United Kingdom presented an action plan to help tackle the obesity crisis.
Personal Philosophy of Health and Physical Education Quality physical education begins with the instructor. Research shows that quality physical education plays a vital role in public health. According to Masurier & Corbin (2006), “Physical education specialists delivering meaningful content and appropriate instruction must become the norm in the educational system in order to provide children with positive physical activity experiences that will lead them to maintain physical activity throughout their lifetime. (p. 44).
So I think, sometimes, we don 't highlight the education that is in sports. In conclusion, sports should be banned from schools because of financial reasons, academic reasons, and student’s health. School’s don’t have any money to pay for sports, how will it pay for the school itself. Most kids only care about sports, they don’t care about their learning and grades.
It has been a topic, often discussed about amongst students and school all across America. “ Should P.E be mandatory?” students and teachers often debate on whether to make physical education mandatory. Although many students claim that P.E is a fun way to exercise, some students think otherwise. A high number of students say that P.E is a waste of time, and is more torture than it is education.
This shows that for most people, it is a waste of time having compulsory PE as we all get a little bit of exercise each week. The school has been telling us that we need to start making our own choices. If that is the case the school shouldn’t be controlling our fitness by having compulsory PE , we should understand ourselves that we have to keep ourselves healthy by doing any form of exercise in our own
Also, the school field could not fit the pupils. When subject of Physical Education (PE) time, the pupils could not enter the field because of the field is too crowded. The teacher needs to bring the pupil to do physical activity at the assembly point which is very dangerous because the surface of the assembly point is hard and have many small stones. If the pupils fall down while do the physical activity, they definitely will get bruises, wounds and in other case need to be
Cell Phones: The average teenager who gets on their phone, just for a second, each hour has the same mind as a 30 year old cocaine addict. Teens have their minds tricked into thinking they can’t live without their cell phones and social media. Teens need to be able to talk to and connect with others and learn face-to-face communication skills. Nowadays teens can get harmed very easily, and teens do not really know who is on the other side of the screen. Studies have shown that phones can ruin lives with the blink of an eye.
