Imagine, you are flipping through the course selection booklet to decide on your year 11 courses. You see feel like carrying on with your 2 option subjects that you did in year 10, in the booklet, you see another course that you would really like to do. You are about to write it down on your form when you notice that you already have 6 subjects, English, Maths, Science, PE, Option 1 and Option 2. You see that there is an option of doing a 7th subject and doing PE as a flexi course with permission from the dean. So you go to the dean to ask them if you can do flexi PE. However, the dean turns you down simply because you didn’t get enough “5’s” on your report. How is this fair? How many of you people struggled with course selection? PE as you …show more content…
PE is a subject that many people love, it is often called as I have heard “easy credits”. There is no doubt that PE is a subject that the vast majority of people have a strong passion for. But the question is, how many of these people carry on with PE in year 12? I decided to stalk our year 12’s using schoology. Anyway, I found out that out of all the year 12’s, only 35% of the year group do PE in the form of either sports studies, outdoor education, health studies, Phys Ed, or advanced Phys Ed. This shows that not a lot of students from their year groups chose to do PE in year 12. Therefore PE should not be a compulsory subject. By now you have probably realised that I have not been complaining about Maths, Science and English being compulsory. But I have a reason for this. I decided to do a little bit more stalking, and find out how many year 12’s are doing a maths course, and maths isn’t even compulsory in year 12. I found out that around 80% of the year 12 students are doing a maths course! Therefore, I can safely say that while PE shouldn’t be compulsory, it is still fine to keep maths compulsory, as more students want to carry on with maths even when its not compulsory than the students that want to carry on with PE, so sorry if there are any of you who dread maths but my statistical evidence says otherwise. These statistics show that not a lot of students chose to carry on with PE. Therefore it is probably a bad …show more content…
I mean what are its benefits? PE is not an academic subject, not a lot of people consider a career in PE, PE is considered as something that is done for leisure rather than something that we do cause we have to. If I were to ask the dean why we have PE compulsory in year 11, I bet that he would say “We want our students to be healthy”. If that is the case, why is PE only compulsory in year 11, why not year 12? Year 13? If that really is the reason that this school has PE compulsory, I think that it is a bad idea for us to sacrifice taking a subject that we actually want to take, just to get healthy. I’m sure most people walk to school. That is an example of getting healthy! I’m sure that when most people have family or friends over at their house, they play a sport or go for a walk together. In fact, simply taking a short 10 minute walk outside can improve your health, which I’m sure everybody does at least once a day. This shows that for most people, it is a waste of time having compulsory PE as we all get a little bit of exercise each week. The school has been telling us that we need to start making our own choices. If that is the case the school shouldn’t be controlling our fitness by having compulsory PE , we should understand ourselves that we have to keep ourselves healthy by doing any form of exercise in our own
In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. In fact, so many people do high school sports in the text “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” it explicitly states “Here in Michigan almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.” This scene particularly shows that many youth athletes participate in high school sports in only one state alone.
For years schools have bonded through sports programs, now they think they should get rid of them. Being a student in school is harder that it has ever been. The academic standards are so high, it can feel paralyzing. That's why it is so important for schools to invest in sports programs now and in the future. Schools should keep sports programs because sports relieve stress on kids and makes kids look forward to going to school.
Is it time to get rid of the American tradition of school sports? In the article, “Yes, It’s Time to Scale Back” the author Amanda Ripley expresses how sports are harmful to the students and school funds. However, in the article, “No Sports Are More Important than Ever” by Tim O’ Shei discusses how school sports benefit students. The article, “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefit Students” by Grace Chen also backs up why school sports are important. School sports are a reason for failing grades; on the other hand, there are many positive benefits to having them in schools.
School days are long and most of the time middle schoolers can 't wait to the end of school. That 's why recess should be there, it allows to enjoy sun or enjoy snow or whatever season. It also allows the kid to have su which is healthy for you also it gives you fresh air. Because otherwise a teenager could make a problem from having the lack of movement. One example is middle schooler boy who caused a disturbance got treated badly because sometimes he caused a disturbance and that hurt his self esteem.
Physical education, exercise science, and sports professionals all play a significant role in getting students, clients, and players to meet the goals and objectives of Healthy People 2020 and The Surgeon General’s Vision for a Healthy and Fit Nation. Having a healthy lifestyle starts at an early phase in life. According to the text, “Adolescence is an important age for developing health habits that will persist into adulthood (79).” With that said, in order for them to have that healthy lifestyle they must become educated about the risks of inactivity as early as possible. Physical education is an “ongoing process of learning” that is incorporated in schools so that students learn to use that knowledge throughout their lives and also learn to enjoy doing it.
It’s finally a time where you DON’T have to learn. This paper is obviously about recess due to my rambling on and on about it. Therefore, we should have recess because, Kids need good health, exercise, and a break from teachers. Starting off with Heath reasons, the most boring. Children need recess because of fresh air, Vitamin D, and so we don’t get cramps in class.
In today’s world many parents are “worried” about the education that their children receive and they want school boards to do their jobs and help their children learn. But is it the school boards problem? No, a vast amount of schools in the USA go after the physical abilities that students have. Amanda Ripley’s, “The Case Against High School Sports,” makes points in which she states that the students here in the USA are more behind in their academics, but more ahead in their sport systems unlike any other country.
Obviously, when students don 't have after school sports they become less stressed and have more time to study for tests which overall increases their grades. Therefore, schools need to cut sports to make sure that all of their students succeed so they 're prepared for the rough future that awaits
The stress can get so intense, it feels paralyzing. That’s why it is important than ever for schools to invest in their athletic programs,” states the sports article “Should Schools get rid of Sports.” Schools should keep their sports programs because they help improve academics, help improve mental and emotional health, and improves social skills like being on a team. Schools should not get rid of their sports programs because they help with student’s academics.
Schools have been providing sports for years, and had students enjoying them with their families and friends. According to many people they want to get rid of sports to focus on their academic skills than athletic skills to help them in the real world with businesses. Therefore, schools should shut down sports to cut down their bills, bring up teacher salaries, and have more educational programs to help them succeed in their business life. Although Schools are always trying to raise money for superior tools in class, it would help if the school closed down the athletics to gain more money for academic needs.
One reason schools should cancel sports is schools can benifit academiclly. “A school district in Vermont, Teaxs canceled sports and it resluted in more kids passing there classes.” This proves that canceling school sports can benefit in academics. “Sports distract kids from academics. During football season, in particular, the focus shifts away from learing.”
Even though some students are against P.E, physical education classes show to help students develop fine motor skills, cooperation, teamwork, and reduces stress and improves self confidence and self esteem. Regular physical activity can also help prevent future medical issues. Without regular exercise, it may be more difficult to practice self-discipline and develop healthy exercise habits as adults. P.E should be mandatory, because it helps develop better skills such as motor skills and cooperation, helps prevent possible help issues in the future, and helps students become more self disciplined and have healthier exercising habits
So now, it should be more required than ever to make sure kids aren’t overweight and they are fit. Although physical education takes time away from other subjects in the classroom, physical education should be required in schools because our generation is becoming overweight and it helps students do better in class. To begin, physical
In order to meet the needs of many different students at a school, music education has to be in the curriculum. With that being said, would it really be fair to take away music education but not physical education? Not everyone wants to play music just as not everyone would like to run around. Do not misinterpret this last sentence, I am not saying physical education should suffer budget cuts. I am saying music education is just as important as physical education to the development of
