Technology can be innovations and inventions that help to accomplish tasks easier. Some examples of technology are agricultural tools, modern computers, electric compartments, etc. In earlier civilizations, the invention of technology itself was a massive part in growing the population and preserving business ordeals like trade. The Han dynasty and the Roman empire both believed technology was essential to their civilizations, but Han China had a positive outlook on labor and its benefits compared to a lesser enthusiasm towards it in Rome. Both the Romans and the Hans admired technology and the people that created it. Tu Shih, one of the focuses of this document, was peaceful, an extraordinary planner, and loved common citizens. Document 4 states how spectacular of a leader Tu Shih was and highlights his labor-reducing methods for the common people: “He invented a water-powered blowing-engine for the casting of iron agricultural implements that allowed people to enjoy great benefits for little labor. His invention has been widely adopted and used” (Doc 4). This excerpt is from another document (History of the early Han dynasty), and they present the attitude that technology is a gift from intelligent leaders and enlightened decision makers. This document can be grouped with document 3, also portraying that technology comes from wise, intelligent, sometimes mythological …show more content…
In document 5, the Romans portray their negative viewpoint on labor: “Vulgar and unbecoming to a gentleman are all the jobs hired workers take on, whose labor is purchased rather than their skill” (Doc 5). Cicero, a Roman political leader, describes laborious jobs as “vulgar”. His message is straightforward; real gentlemen do not like laborious tasks and would rather rely on technology to do all the work for them. On the other side, the Hans used labor to improve their technology. In document 3, Huan Tan touches on this: “Fuxi invented the pestle and the mortar. Later on, the pestle and the mortator were cleverly improved in such a way that the whole body could be used, thus increasing the efficiency ten times” (Doc 3). Fuxi, a mythological wise emperor, invented this piece of technology from labor. Hans believed that this technology came from enlightened
The Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty of China were two of the largest empires of the Ancient world. The Roman Empire lasted from 27B.C. and fell in 476 the to German Barbarians, 298 The Ancient Han Chinese empire lasted from 206 to 220 (p.11). The Rome Empire and the Han Dynasty of China both kept a lot of records and many survive to us today. Both Empires also used a census to monitor people movement and record tax information. Both the Han Dynasty and rome relied heavily on income from taxes to pay for their military and public works
Rome and China are two highly developed civilizations. The Roman Empire began slightly later than the Han dynasty but it was not inferior in terms of vastness or political structure. Han China and Imperial Rome both lasted for about 500 years. They coexisted with the other civilization not knowing much more than each others existence. Politically, they had quite a lot of dissimilarities yet with that comes likenesses as well.
Comparing the Han Dynasty and Roman Empire The Han Dynasty and Roman Empire in the Classical Period were similar in their downfall and advances, but differed politically. The Roman Empire gradually fell for many different reasons. In the same way, the downfall of the Han Dynasty was caused by a multitude of factors, many of these being the same as the Roman’s. Just as the Roman Empire was hurt by the number of nomadic invasions, so was the Han.
The Han and the roman empires shared similar interests and attitudes towards technology. Technology became a primary focuses for the civilizations. The Han and Roman made the same amount of attention towards technology. They both found it important to be the most advanced in technology. In Documents 3 and 4 both empires had a positive attitude towards technology and both thought it was a gift from the “gods”.
The Han Dynasty and Roman Empire were prominent globalizing empires that created lasting legacies for many years to come. The empires were able to do what most have failed to do previously. They were both able to successfully incorporate their enemies and neighbors into their realms. In doing so, they were able to amass a population of about 60 million. Even though both empires had many things in common, they exhibited some key distinguishing differences.
The Roman Empire and Han Dynasty were similar because of the use of the Silk Road as a trading route and both grew and developed because of mandatory military service but were different because the Roman Empire declined because of the expansion of its borders while the Han dynasty declined because of enemy military pressure and because of the wealth and power of its aristocracy. Both the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty used the Silk Road for trade. Chinese merchants returned from trading expeditions to report that Chinese silk was being purchased and traded all along a trading route named the Silk Road. This long route stretched from East Asia all the way to Italy in central Europe.
The great Western Roman Empire was considered to be one of the most powerful empires in human history. Rome became the most powerful state in the world by the first century BCE through a combination of military might, political acumen, and economic might. The empire was founded on blood of two brother’s who fought to the death to be crowned King, which lead to the first King of Rome who was named Romulus. By the third century BCE, all of Rome’s power and greatness began to diminish. Rome was falling.
Rome and Han China, ancient history’s most remarkable civilizations, have many more profound ideals to teach people today than just their world-famous astounding engineering or fascinating cultures. The values of ancient Rome were simplicity, frugality, honesty, austerity and patriotism (PSR 47). Simplicity is the state of being uncomplicated. Careful and reasonable use of resources defines frugality. Honesty means to be sincere and truthful as well as fair in conduct.
Fall of Rome DBQ Including most of the Mediterranean world, Rome, a city that was growing big enough to become one of the world’s largest empire’s would soon slowly fall apart because of their problems. In 27 BC, Rome’s first emperor, Augustus Caesar, took complete power. During his time, he ruled with Pax Romana, a time of Roman peace which lasted for almost 200 years. After his death, the Roman Empire begun to break apart. The primary reasons for the fall of Rome was it being geographically too big; the population was decreasing due to plagues which led to the Roman army becoming weak, social and military issues and laziness of the military would guide the army down which led to cities being lost, and their government and leadership issues of the weak or selfish power leaders would all conduct to the breaking up of Rome.
Introduction The governments of Han China and Rome after Augustus were vastly different in their institutions and practices. While both empires employed autocratic rule and relied on bureaucracy, the ways in which they developed these systems varied significantly. The Han Chinese imperial government was characterized by a Confucian meritocracy while the Roman imperial government was characterized by a strong religious framework. Additionally, Han China tended to centralize more power within a single ruler as compared to Rome's system of devolved authority through provincial governorships.
The time is the third century BCE to the third century CE, two major world empires are in reign; these empires are Han China and Imperial Rome. Both of these empires rule in many of the same ways, yet are vastly different in the way they rule. During this time empires everywhere were growing, and people were learning to live in new ways as new forms of government become more present in society. In Han China, Emperor Gaozu takes over as first emperor as the Han Empire. His empire controls China for almost four hundred years.
Politically, both governments were corrupt. Not always in the same ways, but in the ways that they were similar, it was bloody and dark. In the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire, political figures were power hungry and ruthless to get what they wanted. In the Roman Empire, General Marius was elected consul 7 times in a row. General Marius was a valuable general but not a noble politician.
Perhaps the two most important civilizations, Rome and Han China both fell due to major similarities. At the same time, Rome and Han China fell due to distinct differences as well. Furthermore, the collapse of China and Rome had far more similarities rather than differences. During 200 and 600 BCE both classical civilizations suffered from outside invasions; growing from Central Asia. They were not as sweeping as earlier Indo-European growth but tested Rome and China severely.
In various ways, Han China and Imperial Rome were politically similar yet also had their pair of differences. Two very well-known classical empires, both had highly advanced political systems for their time; Han China, lasted from 206 B.C.E to 220 C.E, and Imperial Rome, lasted from 31 B.C.E to 476 C.E. Many think these two empires where built with no previous influence, however; the Roman Empire had retained many aspects from the Roman Republic, and Han China from the Qin Dynasty. During their peaks, they controlled the majority of the world 's population because of their constant expansion of conquered lands, while their structure of administration and rule influenced many empires and future societies around the world. Aspects such as these, ultimately, led these two empires to be, arguably, the most influential societies in the world; as their legacies still live on today.
The Western Roman Empire fell in 476 AD. There were many factors that went into the fall of the Roman Empire. Economic problems they dealt with was one of the main reasons the Empire fell. Since the romans were not doing good Economically they could not fund the military in order to protect them, which also led to the fall of their military. Socio-Political problems were also a factor; there was a decline in interest to public affairs.
