The Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty of China were two of the largest empires of the Ancient world. The Roman Empire lasted from 27B.C. and fell in 476 the to German Barbarians, 298 The Ancient Han Chinese empire lasted from 206 to 220 (p.11). The Rome Empire and the Han Dynasty of China both kept a lot of records and many survive to us today. Both Empires also used a census to monitor people movement and record tax information. Both the Han Dynasty and rome relied heavily on income from taxes to pay for their military and public works

From about 27 BCE to 180 BCE, Rome enjoyed a period time titled Pax Romana. During that time, Rome's economy and culture flourished. Arguably, they flourished because there was peace and there was internal stability. However, at the end of Marcus Aurelius' reign in 180 BCE, the Roman Empire slowly transitioned out of the classical ages into a period of disorder from which it would never recover. That transition was reflected in the empire's politics and culture; even so, elements of Rome as it was would also remain in the empire's politics and culture.

The Han and the roman empires shared similar interests and attitudes towards technology. Technology became a primary focuses for the civilizations. The Han and Roman made the same amount of attention towards technology. They both found it important to be the most advanced in technology. In Documents 3 and 4 both empires had a positive attitude towards technology and both thought it was a gift from the “gods”.

During this era, both the Han Empire and the Roman Empire rised above and proved they were the strongest and while having the most powerful empires. Although their methods of reaching the highest point in power they didn't both get there the same way but in many ways, they compare. Both empires believed in power vested in the wealthy which gave the mandate to control. The Han Empire and the Roman Empire shared similar political structures that centered around everything. Both empires shared the belief in religious practices, economic values, and social practices.

The Roman Empire and Han Dynasty were similar because of the use of the Silk Road as a trading route and both grew and developed because of mandatory military service but were different because the Roman Empire declined because of the expansion of its borders while the Han dynasty declined because of enemy military pressure and because of the wealth and power of its aristocracy. Both the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty used the Silk Road for trade. Chinese merchants returned from trading expeditions to report that Chinese silk was being purchased and traded all along a trading route named the Silk Road. This long route stretched from East Asia all the way to Italy in central Europe.

There was one emperor. When the emperor died, a new emperor came to power usually from the same family. Aside from the emperors, there were a group of non-elected officials that helped govern the country. The first imperial dynasty of ancient China was the Qin Dynasty, which was the dynasty that Qin Shihuang was from. The Qin dynasty lasted from 221-206 BC.

The Roman Empire was a success thousands of years ago, today the United States has adopted many ideas and aspects of their government. The founding fathers of the United States almost replicated the Roman Republic as an experiment to see if their system would work yet again. America’s standard set of laws reflects those of Rome's, the civil duties of citizens are very similar, and the idea of rotation of power is aligned. Luckily, their experiment of a government worked and USA is flourishing still today. There are so many similarities in the basic laws of the governments of Rome and America.

Politically, both governments were corrupt. Not always in the same ways, but in the ways that they were similar, it was bloody and dark. In the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire, political figures were power hungry and ruthless to get what they wanted. In the Roman Empire, General Marius was elected consul 7 times in a row. General Marius was a valuable general but not a noble politician.

In order to understand the similarities of how order was in the Han Dynasty and Roman Empire from 300 BCE to 300 CE, the beginnings of each empire should be understood. Before the Han Dynasty rose, the Qin Dynasty, which overtaxed their citizens and regulated their laws by censoring education (burning books). The Roman Empire started out as a city-state which began to conquer neighboring regions, such as Italy, and expanded through warfare. However, from 300 BCE to 300 CE, the Han Dynasty and Roman Empire both created order in society by having an agrarian economy, ideologies, and establishing an authority that shaped social structures. They conquered all other dynasties, and established a centralized government, unifying China for the first time. The dynasty that succeeded the Qin, the Han, continued the centralized government and they started a westward expansion that would encourage trade and cultural diffusion.

In various ways, Han China and Imperial Rome were politically similar yet also had their pair of differences. Two very well-known classical empires, both had highly advanced political systems for their time; Han China, lasted from 206 B.C.E to 220 C.E, and Imperial Rome, lasted from 31 B.C.E to 476 C.E. Many think these two empires where built with no previous influence, however; the Roman Empire had retained many aspects from the Roman Republic, and Han China from the Qin Dynasty. During their peaks, they controlled the majority of the world 's population because of their constant expansion of conquered lands, while their structure of administration and rule influenced many empires and future societies around the world. Aspects such as these, ultimately, led these two empires to be, arguably, the most influential societies in the world; as their legacies still live on today.

During the era of classical societies, the Han and Roman empires were two vast cosmopolitan societies which dominated regions all throughout Eurasia. In regards to the fall of the Han and Roman empires, both were similar in that they fell victim to internal government decay, but different in that Rome fell to foreign invasions, while Han suffered from rebellions of their own people. The Han and Roman empires were similar in their fall in that they both suffered from internal decay, specifically of their governments. In the Han empire, land distribution problems that were originally sought to be fixed by the “Socialist emperor” Wang Mang allowed large landowners to become even more influential than they previously were.

The Han Dynasty in China and the Roman Empire shared many similarities and differences when it came to political rule and the nature of their political authority. The most significant difference between the two is how the Han dynasty enacted policies that were shaped to counter the wrongdoings of the previous Qin dynasty, whereas the Roman Empire enacted policies shaped to create and promote peace and stability. The difference in the two empire’s coming to power was to account for their variance in political rule. After the Qin dynasty, the Han ruled China for four centuries, enacting numerous political changes and governing one of the most efficacious dynasties in Chinese history.

Even though both ancient Rome and ancient Japan had advanced militaries. While they were quite different from one another, they both contributed to today’s military tactics. Some people would think that in Ancient times, they really don’t do anything compared to today’s military. But without some of the Ancient military ideas, we wouldn’t have some of the military equipment or similar weaponry that they had back then. Both ancient Rome and ancient Japan had advanced and well trained soldiers.
