The values and ideologies that are most important to my future practice include respect for the inherent dignity and worth of persons, service to humanity and competence in professional practice. First, my value of providing respect for the inherent dignity and worth of persons is important to me and my future practice because it allows me to see the uniqueness in all my clients and subsequent cases. Moreover, it further guides me to allow my clients to be self-determined individuals.

From the ideas and techniques that Mrs. Perez used, I realized how these interviews could be helpful if utilized and applied in the proper way. To me, this assignment was the best and it helped me further my development and growth as a future mental health counselor. The most interesting and educative aspect of this interview was how Mrs. Perez applied most of the counseling techniques, such motivational stage that we have been taught in class. Aspects such as paraphrasing the words of your clients, tone, and facial expressions are critical in a counseling session and students always overlook these techniques. The way Mrs. Perez employed according to her explanation was excellent and her ideas justified the importance of such points in any counseling session.

This process of understanding who I am, allowed me to realise that I want to become a clinical psychologist. I developed a clear plan for my volunteer and work experiences and how this has contributed to my skill level. I’ve always wanted a career in a field where I would be able to do the greatest good in the community. I applied to the Mental Health Clinical Counseling program, because I would like to be a Licensed Professional Counselor. My goal is to work with vulnerable populations, and address issues that affect the trauma, mental, and physical stability of the clients I serve. My long-term career goal is to practice independently within my own agency. I would like to open an agency that offers a variety of service to low income families with my community.

My greatest support has always been my parents. When they were younger they had to leave school, they both dropped out after the 9th grade, since they had to find employment to help support their families. They now support every decision that I make, and continuously motivate me to further pursue knowledge and the opportunity of a great career. Secondly, during my senior year of high school I was part of ASB as historian. The students involved in ASB thought me the value of group work, to be confident, and to never be embarrassed when seeking for help.

I am an extremely caring person. I use my caring personality to help children when I am a counselor at a local camp over the summers, as well as when I help fellow students in the Math Lab here at Indiana State University. I am also passionate about helping others. I have been fortunate enough to have people in my life whom have helped me through the rough spots in my life. I want to be that person for someone else.

As a dietitian there are different career interests that one can go into like being in pediatrics, an educator or counselor, and many more. A few interests that stick out to me are pediatrics/child nutrition and nutrition educator/counselor. Being both you would educate about nutrition and help people grow into a better person and have a better well being. I would also personally prefer working in a hospital, having my own practice, or working in a university. For myself, I have always loved to travel and could see myself going many different places, and with having options of different places to pick an internship was not my worry.

Actually no there were no common goals in my family. Most of my family were farmers, loggers or owned their own business. I would say the most common goal was that they had a work ethic that believes if you work hard enough you will be successful. Probably the most lacking detail was college education. I’m the first woman in my family to earn a bachelor degree.
