Before the Industrial Revolution hit our world during the year of 1750-1914 many people lived their lives dedicated to hard work to make sure that they made enough to cater for their families. This meant almost all people worked mostly on the farms including younger children, who would have their jobs chosen by their parents. However this all changed once the Industrial Revolution set itself on the world. It bought many technological advances that simplified labour-intensive work and machinery in factories, mines and farms were established. This all sounds well and good but the Industrial Revolution also bought with it; child labour and horrible working conditions! This caused many problems during this period of time and many trade unions …show more content…
There were now many openings for jobs as well, as employers needed many workers during this time to work in these factories and mines, to make sure that they produced great results. However with all these positives there comes negatives and these all begin with child labour. The Industrial Revolution introduced child labour as a cheap-effective way to get work done, and since then it has left a print on our world. This is evident as children would often work approximately 12-14 hours a day for a very minimal wage with little to no breaks. Many children also suffered many different injuries such as a variety of physical deformities and many lung diseases because of the contaminated air which they breathed in frequently, trough their young, childhood years. This highlights the positives and negatives of the Industrial Revolution, and when people look back to the past and back at the future they find themselves lucky that our world today, is not like the ruins and torment of the world during this period of history. That bought many ups and downs for the history of the
Other feature of the Industrial Revolution is the pollution that the factories brought, Jill Gatlin states in his article, “At the time of Davis’s writing, those who considered environmental pollutants hazardous typically cited their moral as well as physical dangers”. This statement shows that workers were exposed to every kind of hazard without any protection, workers often suffered injuries such as broken bones or finger lost. How the Industrial Revolution was just starting, people were not aware about this problem, pollution contaminated rivers that passed
People had many opportunities to work during this time. Before the Industrial Revolution children usually grew up and had the same profession as their parents because that’s what their parents taught them. Once the revolution started however, children were able to work in factories, as servants, on farms and etc. During this time, a lot of technology was created but jobs were also cut down. Machines like the spinning jenny were invented, which gave factories the option to cut down on their employees.
The Industrial Revolution refers to a time of greatly increased output of machine-made goods that emerged within the textile industry. The Industrial Revolution, which began in England in the late 1700’s, had a wide range of positive and negative effects on the economic and social life of the people of England. The results of the Industrial Revolution have been interpreted many ways through the various social classes of Britain; the peasants who suffered from the dangers of the factories and tenements and the upper class who benefited from capital and enterprises. Although the Industrial Revolution positively affected Britain’s iron production and added conveniences and comforts to daily life for the upper class, the dangers of the factories’
While some might argue that industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of new machines, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s negative effects were child labor, disgusting living conditions, and hard, dangerous, filthy jobs for little pay. One of the negative effects of Industrialization was child labor. Many children worked during the Industrial Revolution because they needed to support their families. Lots of them started working very young.
The Industrial Revolution, which took place from the 18th-19th centuries rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. Before the Industrial Revolution manufacturing was often done in people’s homes, using hand tools or simple machines. Industrialization created a shift to powered machines, factories and mass production. The iron and textile industries, along with the steam engine, played certain roles in the Industrial Revolution, which also saw improved ways of transportation, communication and banking.
One of the negative factors regarding the Industrial Revolution in our society is child labor. Children were taken out of there homes to work in factories and farms.
The Industrial Revolution had many positive and negative effects of how the people felt and did with the Great depression happening in the early 1900’s. Many of the positives were because of the big booms in large cities with supply and demand. There was a huge boom in Pittsburgh due to the large steel production. There were negative effects because of all of the low working wages, the economy dropping, and the desperate needs of everyone needing money. Other negative effects were also horrible conditions in factories, really low pay, unfair working hours and some of the workers were kids between the ages of 10-16.
The Industrial Revolution marked a turning point in history with mass amounts of changes creating everything we see to know,It all began in the 1750’s. In this time the beginning living and working conditions were for and the life of a worker changed drastically. Living and working conditions in the 1750’s were poor. “The streets are usually unpaved and filled with holes, filthy and strew with refuse” (Doc 3). With people living in the streets and turning a town into a city will have its flaws.
While child labor is perceived to have a dark and unsafe past, it used to play an important part in the US economy. The role that children played in the workforce during the 19th century focused on manual labor. “Through the first half of the 1800s, child labor was an essential part of the agricultural and handicraft economy of the United States. Children worked on family farms and as indentured servants for others. To learn a trade, boys often began their apprenticeships between the ages of ten and fourteen” (History.com).
During the Industrial Revolution, Great Britain experienced significant technological progress which contributed to its economic expansion. However, this period also had negative consequences such as pollution, disease, and poor living and working conditions including child labor. These issues had long term impacts and shaped the future of the world. Despite these negative effects, there were also positive outcomes like increased job opportunities, higher production rates, and an impact on global trade.
Prior to the Industrial Revolution, which began in Britain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in people’s homes, using hand tools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special-purpose machinery, factories and mass production. The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution, which also saw improved systems of
Regarding politics, the Industrial Revolution greatly impacted the world by establishing child labor laws and supporting imperialism. At the start of the Industrial Revolution, children as young as six years old were working in factories. Conditions were exceedingly harsh; they worked very long hours around extremely dangerous machinery at a premature age (Doc 4b, Byerly). Do to the lack of child labor laws, children were put at high risks of growth defects and their fingers being dismembered by machines. Because of these conditions, the first child labor law was enacted in 1819.
Something that was good about the industrial revolution was that there was more workers and people could get payed more. Things that were bad was that little kids could. That’s bad because kid get hurt for example, for kids who worked on farms would ride on horse rakes and easily fall off and get crushed. Kids would get overworked after working 12 hours a day.
In the small towns they at least worked for their families but in the city the worked harder, in harsher conditions and for a huge company. This resulted in more hours of work and more sickness because of how hard they worked. Child labor is still present today. More than 59,600 of the workers in the U.S.A are under 14 and many other countries have it worst. We can see how child labor was present in the industrial revolution, but we can also see how it is still present today.
The industrial revolution created an age of wonder for the rich but also created a nightmare for the workers powering the industrial revolution. The period of rapid industrial growth during the 1800s and into the early 1900s was more harmful because of poor working conditions, violent labor disputes and poor regulations at factories. The businessmen of the industrial revolution created poor working conditions for men and women just
