Industrial Revolution Argumentative Essay

Back in the gilded age, late 1800’s, there were big businessmen that changed our economy greatly: but the question is, were they really robber barons or captains of industry? These businessmen were the owners of industries that were very important economic activity in the time period. Though, they were involved in many ethically questionable practices. These practices included child labor, making illegal shortcuts, scams, and deals; plus, they also exploited many of their workers. According to the definitions of each accusation, theses businessmen of the gilded age should be considered as both robber barons and captains of industry, due to the way they have changed the economy, and also how they did so unethically.

When they sat down at the negotiating table, the two sides would bring with them very different preconceptions about how the world should work - it was clear the difference between rich and poor and the rich perception was that they were the owners of the poor so they should make up all rules. However, industrialization was insanely horrible for the United States during 1865-1900, for the reasons of working conditions, corruption and the boom and bust cycle. The working conditions in the factories, that the workers faced were scandalous. These horrible working conditions resulted in the workers performing strikes because of unhealthy environments, low wages and overcrowding.

During the 19th century in Great Britain, there was a sudden rise in machines and new inventions that would simplify many difficult jobs for humans. Many workers were forced off farms and into factories to help these machines work. Poor farmers were the only ones who were forced into working in the factories because they had no money. This sudden change in the way society functioned brought up many different arguments from people who had very radical opinions. Although industrialization improved society in many ways, for example, the increase in money and food, it also derailed most of society.

Throughout the novel, the audience learns how often socially unjust acts are committed in this industry. For instance, the government inspector who checks slaughtered pigs for signs of tuberculosis often does not check several carcasses. These are extremely disturbing facts that the public is just now hearing of. The novel also shows how the lack of sanitation in factories lead to diseases in the product as well as its workers. These truly shows how corrupt the factory owners are.

The Industrial Revolution, lasting from the late 1700s until the early 1900s, was possibly one of the greatest time periods in this world’s history. This time period caused people to think more and dream bigger. From these big dreams rose up inventors, entrepreneurs, and business owners. The Industrial Revolution brought many new inventions and production processes, but along with great new things come great terrible horrors. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the new production methods and what they produced, it was actually a negative thing for society.

However there were some positives about the Industrial Revolution; which people will most likely argue about. For example, an insignificant amount of factories gave their workers an education, as well as a satisfying wage to put food on the table. Also in document three Andrew Ure states that no worker has been beaten during working hours. In addition, no worker has ever felt exhausted after a day of work.

The Industrial Revolution witnessed the evolution of large urban centers, such as Boston and New York City. It changed society from agrarian to mechanical, which further moved jobs to larger cities. As every coin has two sides, there are negative sides to this. Primarily, it caused severe pollution. The environment condition was bad with smokes surrounding them.

The Industrial Revolution was from 1750 to 1830, a period of time that caused an economical and cultural shift. This era brought a mix of positive and negative effects that not only affected the area it was in but also its surroundings. In result of the revolution there was the cottage industry, agriculture, harsh labor within the system of factory- based manufacturing that included complex machinery, the growth of technology, new resources and the development of transportation. Also the series inventions that increased the production of manufactured goods, which then led to the increased size in the population. A series of the positive effects that came from the industrialization mostly came from the factory owners and the individuals who were above the middle class.

Effects of the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution was an important event in history. It brought about many positives during its time. For instance, kids were well fed, educated, and clothed. There were plenty of negatives, as well. One very sad example was the machine injuries that happened to both children and adults.

Something that was good about the industrial revolution was that there was more workers and people could get payed more. Things that were bad was that little kids could. That’s bad because kid get hurt for example, for kids who worked on farms would ride on horse rakes and easily fall off and get crushed. Kids would get overworked after working 12 hours a day.

The Industrial Revolution was a major change in the nature of production in which machines replaced tools and steam and other energy sources replaced human or animal power. The Industrial Revolution began in England in the middle 1700s. During the Industrial Revolution, workers became more productive, items were manufactured, prices dropped, making hard to make items available to the working and middle class and not only the wealthy. Life generally improved, but the Industrial Revolution was also harmful. Pollution increased, working conditions were harmful, and capitalists employed women and young children, making them work long hours for low wages.
