Another Key factor in the Industrial Revolution was increases in transportation modes and availability of transportation. England’s first phase of canal building during the 1700s was crucial for industrialization. Canals made factories cost effective. Factories could then be built anywhere with materials easily shipped to that factor, utilize the steam engine to efficiently produce the product, and transport that products to market just easily. Transportation made mass production cost-effective and widened the market from the local to the national.

Although the industrial revolution had positive impacts such as helping the economy, it led many places to illiteracy, loss of life, and an increase in crime rate. There were many great effects of the Industrial Revolution, which helped Great Britain's economy grow more efficiently. Firstly, Great Britain was the first country to industrialize, meaning they had cheaper goods which other countries at the time were in need of leading Great Britain to mass trading. Secondly, when they made factories, they required people to work in these factories, leading to growth in the employment rate. Lastly, document 4 states that industrialization made “not only travel at less expense but travels ten times quicker than two hundred years ago”.

The Industrial Revolution was a huge part of American history, but, many people do not realize how greatly our geography assisted the growth of the industry. England, where the revolution began, contains a majority of resources, similar to the states,that helped the industrial revolution greatly (Document 4). A few of the being coal, which has a source of energy; cotton and wool, both used to create textiles; iron, lead, and tin, all metals used to build factories and machinery (Document 1). Changes in agriculture also helped a great deal to get the Industrial Revolution on its feet.

The world has experienced an increase in economy and how products are being produced. This is due to a period called the Industrial Revolution that has revolutionized each industry from being handmade to being produced by machinery. The impact of the Industrial Revolution is undoubtedly important to mankind because it speeds up production speed and skyrocketed the economy. Even though the Industrial Revolution has revolutionized how products are being produced through machinery in factories, flaws are not preventable where child labor and pollution have become major concerns to society during the mid 1800s.

From 1790 to the late 1800’s, the Industrial Revolution recreated industry as Europe knew it with ground-breaking inventions and mass-producing factories. The Industrial Revolution widened the social gap with the bourgeoisie on a pedestal and the proletariat baring the weight of being the work class that would make the Industrial Revolution happen; this strife would lead to many riots and revolutions across Europe as many men like Karl Marx would develop solutions to the proletarian’s problems such as communism. The question arose of how the proletariat were to rebel against the bourgeoisie. The fact was that a revolution was inevitable.

Experiencing “...fatigue and exposure to weather, necessary to their conditions”, women suffered immensely because working conditions which they exhibited were often unsanitary and dangerous (Anonymous, Document 1). Majority of women found jobs in domestic service, textile factories, and piece work shops, and despite claims that the Industrial Revolution provided increased wages and a better standard of living, it however, resulted in the life of hardship for many. Because “remains of the absolutism of slavery still linger in the conventional arrangements of domestic service”, the Industrial Revolution epitomized inequality in the workforce (Linton). By being exposed to unsanitary working environments where women “...live under ground or just below the roof”, the lives of women had little improvements (Liton). Not only did women experience poor working conditions, they furthermore, were victimized by the unequal distribution of wages.

This example confirms that with more factories being made and more people getting jobs, than the more money that factory’s industry is making, which results in the US economy growing. Another positive that came from the industrial revolution are worker unions. Worker unions are groups of people who try to create better wages and safer work conditions. These unions would go on strikes to get what they were fighting for. During these strikes, there was less pollution being admitted into the Earth, since there was no work going on in the factories.

Disease was very common back during the Industrial Revolution. The most common disease during this time was cholera, which you would get from drinking badly contaminated water. This disease was made from all the disgusting items that were going into the fresh water, which if you drank it. It would later get you sick. If you worked in factories and mines during this time, you could have a possibility of getting white and black lung.

It was the moment machinery was born for the first time. Great Britain had all the necessary resources to industrialize, which caused it to develop first. Many factories were built, and people started discovering new ways of life which improved the way they lived.

The widespread disease had the potential to drastically reduce the lifespan of those who lived in the city. The filth spread not only to the river, but to the entire city as well. The British Medical Journal The Lancet reported in 1843, that the average lifespan of those in industrial areas was twelve years less than those in rural areas (Document 9). This statistic includes nothing of the jobs of the people, but focuses instead on their living conditions. If two people have the same job but live in separate places and one still dies sooner, there is plainly something wrong with the location.

The effects of the Industrial Revolution on Great Britain were more negative due to the inventions, social issues, and economics. The Industrial Revolution was a long slow process that changed the way goods were made. This could mean both negative and positive changes but one is lead to believe that the negative effects outweigh the positive effects. The Industrial Revolution brought many great machines (Inventions) to man that made lengthy projects less time consuming, but with a price. Society in England had a major change in how many families went to the mills to work long and harsh hours in the factories with penny wages each hour.

The Industrial Revolution, which occurred between around 1760 and 1820-1840, was a period of transition from hand production methods to machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron production processes, and the use of water and steam power. It led to unprecedented population growth and a rise in average income and population[2]. The growth of industries and factories in Great Britain led to urbanization, overcrowding, and poor living conditions in industrial towns[7]. In the short term, the poor living conditions in industrial towns led to the spread of diseases and illnesses[8]. However, the British government passed several laws and regulations aimed at improving the lives of people living in industrial towns.

In a matter of years, the country of England transformed from agricultural industries to factory industries. This transformation was a result of the Industrial Revolution, which began around 1800. The industrialization of England led England to become more powerful than other nations because of its advantage in industry. However, the Industrial Revolution had some negative impacts on the people of England. For one, cities with booming populations faced problems in providing healthy living conditions for laborers.

Another reason why the Industrial Revolution had such a negative impact of society was the dangerous working conditions in all the factories. Working was not only treacherous for children, but for everyone employed on the factories. ”Industrial growth brought with it a host of environmental pollution problems” (Document 3). As the Industrial Revolution was propelling along, fossil fuels such as coal were used to power the factories. Even though this was marvelous that the factories were getting power, people were being exposed to toxic fumes for about 14 hours a day and sometimes more.

Effects of the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution was an important event in history. It brought about many positives during its time. For instance, kids were well fed, educated, and clothed. There were plenty of negatives, as well. One very sad example was the machine injuries that happened to both children and adults.
