Destiny In The Alchemist

Destinys and Decisions “You are always only one decision away from a totally different life”(Unknown). Your destiny can be such a fragile thing, you slide between the path of success and the path of failure daily with the decisions you make. Often when you make a bad decision you are give a second chance. And these decisions and chances all lead up to your destiny.

There is three paths in his life: the mothers path, the fathers path and Ultimas path. He soon realizes that no one can choose your destiny and destiny comes by itself. First of all, Antonio develops the theme, no one can choose your destiny for you, destiny chooses itself. One example of this is when Antonio has his dreams about his future.

In beginning the book with this story, what themes and relationships is Coelho telling us to watch for throughout Santiago’s story? Do you think there may be an element of “narcissism” in the pursuit of one’s personal legend?

I personally believe that we have control of how are destiny will work for us. We can do the right things in life, or do the not so good things that sabotage the way our destiny is suppose to work out for us. In The Sports Gene, by David Epstein, Donald Thomas was led to his destiny by a bet from a current track member who did high jump. He then found out that he was naturally good at high jump, because of his giant achilles tendon. But in Macbeth, by Shakespeare, Macbeth sabotaged the way he was going to become king of Scotland.

At some point in our life, there would be a time to ask ourselves: what is the true meaning of destiny, the word always associated with fate? Can it be controlled by humans or changed? Is it something that is decided already by the heavenly forces or is it a work-in-progress? The definition of this word is subjected to changed from person to person due to the differences in culture, religion, personality, character, and such. However, regardless of how a person defines the word, they will experience a chain of events leading to the discovery of their own fate.

What is destiny? Destiny is events that will happen necessarily to a particular person or thing in the future. It is a predetermined, inevitable, course of events. We do not choose our own destiny. Anything can happen and therefore can’t choose the outcome of our actions which leads to our destiny.

In our lives, people believe that destiny controls our lives and that when things happen it 's for a reason. In into the wild by Jon Krakauer and Oedipus, by Sophocles, it shows us strong examples of destiny. Into the wild shows us destiny when Chris Supertramp goes through many hardships like his car being in a flood and the battery dying. When this happens he has to leave his car behind but is happy because it looks like it was destiny to shed access things and walk up to Alaska meeting new people along the way and making friends that supported him in his endeavors. It was also his destiny to find the bus and eat wild pea plants and die.

The definition of fate is, the development of events beyond a persons control, regarded as determined by supernatural power. Fate is something that is embedded in every human being. Not only does it shaped what we go through daily, but it gives us the final mold of what our life will turn out to be like. We often look to others and to ourselves to search for what pieces can help lead us to our fate. In the book the alchemist Santiago is constantly trying to find his directions to fate.

Paulo Coehlo’s, The Alchemist, explores the Hero’s Journey through the story of a shepherd, Santiago. Throughout the novel, Santiago becomes more aware of his potential as he pursues his Personal Legend. He faces temptations and obstacles as he develops as a character. The hero crosses the threshold when they leave their old reality in search for a new one. Santiago crosses the threshold by selling his sheep and taking a boat to Africa.

“Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th.” This quote is the epitome of, Santiago, the boy, In the novel “The Alchemist”. The boy comes across several points where it would be easier to stop his journey and forget his dream, but instead he keeps pushing through till he succeeds, with the help of the omens. The recurring theme of omens in the novel, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho helps Santiago persevere throughout the novel, by guiding him in the right direction.

Finding Your Identity In this novel, Fahrenheit 451, author Ray Bradbury, pushed the limits of our imagination, and challenged readers to think beyond this century’s traditional way of understanding freedom and choice. Montag is challenged with his own identity and wants more than what his day-to-day life provides. Through his personal curiosity, he is filled with sentiment of knowledge from books that has filled his mind. Montag is forced to find his own identity and is challenged to discover his own thoughts and realize the value within them through the symbolic relationships, personal challenges and dramatic tone.

The Alchemist is a famous book written by Paulo Coelho. It’s about a shepherd named Santiago who travels from his homeland Spain to the Pyramids in Egypt. He does this to find a treasure he was told about. Along his hard journey, he meets some people along the way like a gypsy woman and a king in disguise who all direct him towards his quest. He doesn’t let the obstacles stop him toward his goal and eventually he finds his treasure.

In the story the alchemist it is discovered that there are many different things in life to look forward to. There is also something in the story that is a moral or your life´s destiny called your personal legend. Your personal legend is one of those things in life that some people look up to in the future. Santiago travels the world to pursue his personal legend. Santiago strived to find his personal legend with the help of people he met on the way to find treasure that he is destined to find , just to realize the treasure was where he had fallen asleep in the beginning of the book.
