Bullying is destructive behavior that belittles people considered or thought to be weak and vulnerable. The most commonly known forms are physical, emotional, verbal, and cyber. Bullying has been going on for as long as people can remember. No matter what form of bullying occurs, the effects can last a lifetime. Ask anyone you know and they are most likely able to have either seen or experienced it. People get bullied for what clothes they wear, weight, sexual orientation, race, how much money they have, and who they hang out with. In school, kids are prone to be more self-conscious than they usually are. Therefore, I think bullying is an issue among teens. Shane Dawson is a 29-year-old “Youtube” star who has acquired two “New York Times Best Sellers”. In his latest book, It Gets Worse: A Collection of Essays one of the main themes shown is bullying. Growing up, Shane was a very overweight kid, who wore quirky shirts and wasn’t the richest looking person. One specific event is where kids who were in the Special Ed classes made him learn that he shouldn’t care what the bullies think of him. “Not caring what anyone was thinking about them. Not listening to the laughter coming from some of the ‘normal’ kids, and not even paying attention to anyone around them. As I watched, I felt inspired. I wanted to be more like them.” (Dawson, 35). Some of the most common reasons people get bullied for are the color of their skin, disabilities, or because they’re apart of the LGBTQ+ community. They get assaulted with slurs, are sexually/physically assaulted, and can even be abused by relatives. School is supposed to be a safe place for growing teens to voice their opinion and be themselves. They should not have to be scared to walk into school wondering whether or not today will be the day, they fall apart into pieces. Through the higher risk of depression, anxiety and panic attacks, bullying can have a lasting effect on a child, causing them to have a damaged adulthood. The effect is seen whereas adults who were previously a victim and a bully are fifteen times as likely have panic attacks, 5 times greater risk for depression, and 10 times the chance more of suicidal thoughts than adults who were uninvolved in bullying. Nowadays, bullying has a different stance through social media, allowing kids to bully without even being in the same room as one another. Bullying occurs every day due to social pressures, cultural insensitivity, and learned behaviors during formative years, and therefore is a pervasive issue that affects both the bully and the bullied, causing self-esteem issues, mental health problems, delay of social skills, and should be addressed and prevented by parents. Bully is a very widespread problem and affect many individuals, especially students. One out of every five students report being bullied (Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center, 2016). This behaviour can be anything from physical (e.g hitting, kicking or physical contact) or emotional (teasing and starting rumours) to verbal bullying (when someone tries to seem more dominant than the other using strong, hurtful words). Bullying usually takes place among school children. (Anon., 2013) • Physical Bullying: physical bullying is an aggressive bodily action towards the same victim that is targeted repeatedly by the same person. The victim targeted is usually smaller and weaker than the bully who would most likely be strong and buff.
In “How to Handle a Bully,” by Kathiann Kowalski, an experienced journalist, Kowalski reports the different strategies to stop bullying. She informs that bullying is at its peak in the late teenage years, but can start in an early age. Kowalski concurs that girls intimidates as much as boys; however, they do it differently. She explores many reasons why bullying occurs at the first place, and who starts bullying. Kowalski exemplifies the situations that victims could be in, and the solution on how to handle the bully.
Not everyone may feel the same way. Kids can get stressed, have panic attacks, and get bullied at school. One of the biggest problems happening at schools has been going on for longer than we can remember, and the problem won’t really go away. The problem is bullying. It made me both smile and cry and I went on the journey of JD’s life throughout the book. Though parts of bullying were difficult to read about, important lessons about advocating and self-acceptance came out of the hard experiences. Meghan Neal of Daily News puts it to awareness of how many students that could be. She said “nearly 1 in 6 high school students has seriously considered suicide, and 1 in 12 has attempted it.” This really puts it to perspective on how students feel about their lives after being bullied. This isn’t healthy. There are many people today who still believe that they should commit suicide because they are put so low in life.

Bullying in Schools What seems fun and harmless for some students, is painful and degrading to others. Bullying has been a critical issue around schools, but before it was not as dangerous and know as it is now. These do not means bullying was not happening, it means it was not taken into consideration by parents or teachers.
