Does Bullying Link to Suicide? Bullying, suicide, and torture to the mind. But how are these factors related? Everybody has heard of some kind of bullying whether it is verbally, physically, mentally, or cyber bullying. But do we know what it does to the victims? The main reason why someone would commit suicide or at least attempt is to eliminate their emotional, physical, and/or mental pain. “Suicide remains among the leading causes of death of children under 14. Children are more likely to see of experience bullying when they are in middle school or junior high. Because of their exposure, they are harmed in any way or form. We are talking about students. These students are considering suicide. Their end of their lives because of bullies repeatedly harming them. She said “nearly 1 in 6 high school students has seriously considered suicide, and 1 in 12 has attempted it.” This really puts it to perspective on how students feel about their lives after being bullied. The effect is seen whereas adults who were previously a victim and a bully are fifteen times as likely have panic attacks, 5 times greater risk for depression, and 10 times the chance more of suicidal thoughts than adults who were uninvolved in bullying. Nowadays, bullying has a different stance through social media, allowing kids to bully without even being in the same room as one another. On September 3, 2013, a sophomore named Bart Palosz committed suicide in Greenwich, Connecticut. Nina Golgowski discussed this in her article, “Connecticut Teen Who Committed Suicide.” Palosz’s story is very similar to Tyler Long’s, a boy who committed suicide in 2007. Tyler Long’s story was told by director Lee Hirsch in the movie Bully. Palosz and Long were treated horribly both verbally and physically by classmates, and nothing was done by their schools to help them.
The low esteem of the teenager make the teen feel inferior to the rest of the students due to the comments. That is when the students commit suicide believing that ending life will stop the bullying that the teen is going through from continuing. Some of the teenagers at Madera High School have good intention and are willing to hear and help the teen going through the intimidation of bullying. One of a teenager who was interviewed mentioned, “I would give them advice and if it got out of hand and we could not fix it, I would contact an adult”(Anonymous). It is interesting to see that some teens are willing to help someone dealing with bullying.

Long Term Bullying Childhood bullying can really affect adulthood. Being bullied as a child can cause depression, suicide attempts, and physical health problems. But does childhood bullying lead to struggles as an adult? Bullying has clear physical effects on brain structures.
They tend to display high levels of emotion that indicate vulnerability and low levels of resilience. Most specifically, they will have low self-esteem and confidence in themselves. They would feel wary or suspicious of others. And the most serious cases of bullying effects are: nightmares, trauma, depression, anxiety, feelings of loneliness and isolation. Although bullying is hard to control, schools need to have stricter procedures dealing with bullying, because bullies can have many negative outcomes including impact on mental health, people's self-esteem, and it can lead to depression or even suicide.
Teenage suicide is definitely preventable when the right help is present. It can be recognized on the internet, gossiping, and phone callings. In almost all cases teenagers who bully others get some type of satisfaction in causing pain and injury to other teenagers. Being bullied should be an experience that no youth ever has to go through. Young teens who are being bullied try to seek out ways to cope with the pain and suffering.
