Barb is a transformational leader. This has been very effective among our team. Managing people with higher education can be very tricky at times and undoubtedly intimidating. Barb has the ability to “motivate and inspire followers and to direct positive changes” (Cherry, 2006), within our group. She strives on a daily basis to encourage and enthuse her team which empowers us to make constructive changes in our group.
Objectives. I was able to increase the benefit of task management but still struggled to maintain the efficiency that comes along with that due to losing a case manager and taking on the entire case load myself. Understanding different perspectives has always come easy to me, however, learning to quite myself when my integrity is challenged because of someone else’s perspective was a definite challenge to me. I felt that the objective of learning what effective leadership can accomplish was the one that was successful. After shadowing Barb, I learned effective communication techniques, how to inspire the staff with vision and drive and how to have integrity in the midst of turmoil. Applying this practicum to becoming a baccalaureate-prepared nurse will come in time. Being a leader is a learned skill not a given role. In my opinion, it takes time to become a successful leader. First thing that is needed is sufficient time to hone skills that are needed to become a great nurse leader. That is my plan, leadership is in my future but for now my best bet is to continue to learn. This experience has been a positive one for me. Learning how to become an effective leaders encompasses a lot more than I originally thought. To be great leader one needs vision, drive, tenacity, understanding, negotiating skills, and the integrity to not let their head get to big. Barb has taught me all of these things and so much more. When most people think of a leader, they picture the president of a club or an organization. However, it is my belief that a good leader is actually just a good person who leads by example, rather than any other authority. In this context, I satisfy the leadership requirement for the NHS. As I have mentioned before, I have always been ready to help others. Not only am I ready to help as an individual, I am also able to work well with a team.
A leader may achieve this with captivation, emotional intelligence, and through the empowerment of followers (Hutchison & Jackson, 2013). Many research studies explore this theory and its impact on the nursing profession (Fischer, 2016). Largely, transformational leadership in the nursing context is directly and indirectly associated with staff satisfaction, decreased turnover, and improved patient outcomes (Fischer, 2016; Bormann, & Abrahamson, 2014; Merrill, 2015). It is possible to connect the benefits of transformational leadership styles to the leader 's ability to empower followers, simultaneously increasing their commitment to the organization (Fischer, 2016; Bormann, & Abrahamson, 2014; Merrill, 2015).
a. This portfolio shows the educational journey through the BSN program at Western Governors University(WGU). The curriculum at WGU was very challenging, nonetheless it prepared me to become a safe and effective nurse. The BSN curriculum provided avenues to keep me up to date with safe practices and learn how to master therapeutic communication. WGU also helped me sharpen my critical thinking skills in order to make decisions quickly and provide safe and effective care to patients. My biggest concern with improving quality care and patient safety issues in that, the responsibility is not ours alone, our Chief Nurse Executives (CNEs) and Director of Nursing (DON), and senior nursing management staffs to lead the journey Disch J. (2008). I find it overwhelming that the majority of the research literature (studies, surveys and reports believe nursing plays the pivotal role in changing the face of health care and improving quality care and patient safety.
In addition, an individualized leadership development plan, including a goal will be discussed. Literature Review To achieve transformational leadership one must achieve these key 5 practices (Ajanaku & Lubbe, 2021). The first competent transformational leadership, modelling the way, can be achieved through setting the example for those around you. In order for this to be effective, the nurse should develop trust and respect, with those around them. Building trust as a leader can influence those around you to have confidence in one's abilities to lead and be more inclined to follow.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has a strong stance on nurses and leadership. They believe that nurses are a vital component to health care system and nurses in leadership roles can have a positive impact on such. Nurses are in all sorts of roles within the health care systems ranging from a staff nurse, nurse managers, to advance practice, all the way to congress (Finkelman & Kenner, 2013). In addition, they even serve in the boardroom within some health care organizations. Leadership doesn’t necessarily mean a nurse in a manager position, but a nurse who has an influence on staff.

Transformational Leadership in Nursing Introduction Transformational Leadership is the moral ability of a person to make sound judgment and wise decision to influence and inspire others to perform the best outcome even in the critical situation. It is the ability to guide others not just in words, but also by example. Nurses are able to cultivate trust and harmony and establish good relationship with their patients and co-workers through effective and constant communication and intervention. They respond to the basic needs and expectation (Rousel, 2011), they set aside their personal interest for the benefit of their patients and the organization.
Transactional Leadership Frequently referred to as a managerial approach to leadership, the transactional leadership style is centered on improving efficiencies within an organization or team (McShane & Von Glinow, 2015). Leaders practicing the transactional approach focus on the details of the step by step processes and workflows using a reward and punishment system to encourage workgroup production (Dartey-Baah, 2015). As errors and inconsistent results are part of the expected norm, transactional leaders succumb to the belief that employees require ongoing monitoring and supervision to ensure compliance with the expected work practices. When used with an experienced high performing staff, the constant supervision and punitive nature of the transactional leadership style can be counterproductive, causing a decrease in production and satisfaction among some groups. In contrast, when used with newly formed production units, the transactional style has been known to improve employee engagement and response (Breevaart et al., 2014).

Most nursing managers are tossed around by their leaders when they themselves are leaders in their capacities. To me, it is hard to define what leadership is, especially in one sentence, but I agree with you that leadership is the action of leading others or an organization. I feel like it is when someone steps up and goes into the unknown as well. It is also important to mention that it is never just one single person.
