What Factors Led To The End Of Reconstruction

A lot happened during the reconstruction era lets discuss some of the most important events. Let's start with a big one, on January 1, 1863 Lincoln issued the secondhand emancipation proclamation. The proclamation was actually written 5 months prior to that. The reason it took so long was that he didn't want to make the war about slavery, Lincoln was against slavery but still wanted to keep the support of the border states, Maryland, Delaware, Missouri, Kentucky. The Secondhand Emancipation proclamation encouraged the releasing of slaves, it was placed to show that slavery was wrong and should be abolished.

Reconstruction was in process because of the war. The Civil war destroyed much of the south. In many groups it was not wanted such as the KKK. The KKK was a group against equal rights throughout African Americans. Other groups supported the Reconstruction such as Freedmen, African Americans who were freed during the war, and Carpetbaggers, people who went south to help the reconstruction in the south.

Why does reconstruction fail? It fails for a number of reasons, ranging from people not putting in the effort needed to fix things to there being too deep of a wound for it to ever go back to normal. The wound may be stitched up, but it will leave behind a nasty scar that will never go away. Reconstruction may be able to throw things back together, but it never goes back to the way it was before.

The Reconstruction was unsuccessfull because of some important reasons. First, the South was still aracist part of the United States because they created the Jim Crow Laws, what means that the people who lived and administratedthe South were not intelligent. The second example is that Abraham Lincoln, who started and incentivated the Reconstruction, was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, so it made the Reconstruction process to be less efective. Finally, the last problem was the Solid South, it is a name that the South recieved because it was a solid white, solid racist and solid Democrat, what means that they were not able to support black people. Concluding, all of these examples shows why the Reconstruction was unsuccessfull

The North's neglect was a huge end to reconstruction. According to document C there was a panic in 1873 from corruption in Ulysses Grant's administration. In the end the North became less invested in the South and started focusing in their own political affairs (document C). “The tide of public opinions in the North began to turn against Reconstruction policies.(document C)” The Northerner also did not show respect to the free blacks.

The Reconstruction took place following the Civil War that helped rebuild the United States, but in many ways the Reconstruction was a war itself with all the pain that came with it. The one of the only differences was that the military conflict no longer existed between the North and the South. The Reconstruction was brought by the Northerners who wanted the Southerners to pay for what they caused and the Southerners who wanted to keep their life the same as before. Nevertheless, the Civil war brought slavery to an end and altered the African-Americans rights by three new Amendments. Abolishing slavery in all states, the Thirteenth Amendment was the first of the three Amendments that brought African-Americans their rights.

This shows that the major goal of the reconstruction period was to give Black Americans their social, political, and economic rights. However, Reconstruction ultimately failed in giving Black Americans

The Reconstruction was important to American history because it gave all different types of people their rights. The fourteenth amendment, The Dawes act and The Homestead Act all have things in common. All of these acts involve something to do with race and or forcing people out of their homes or land. The fourteenth Amendment gave men of color “equal” rights to white men.

Reconstruction was a period after the Civil War, which Northern leaders created plans to reestablish the south and for southern states to rejoin the Union. Presidential reconstruction was more lenient to the south. However, Congressional reconstruction wanted to punish the south for starting the war and for treating African American inequality. They put the South under military control.

24 November 2015 The Real Death of Reconstruction There is no easy way to decide who can be held accountable for the end of the Reconstruction Era. Attempts to rebuild the South ceased to exist in 1877, just over ten years after the Confederacy surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant in Appomattox Court House, Virginia. It seemed as though everything was on the right track in 1876, the one hundred year anniversary of The United States. That was, however, until the South waged conflict against black and white citizens of The United States.

Although many attempts were made to prioritize freedom and equality for all, these values were undermined by racist Southerners who wouldn’t accept equality. In the end, Reconstruction had failed and former slaves endured another hardship akin to slavery. However, Reconstruction still could have prospered. There are multiple events that, if they had occurred, Reconstruction would not have failed. For example, had the government continued to fund the Freedmen’s Bureau, then the South would have legislated their discriminatory laws much later, if not at all.

The South killed Reconstruction most by their resistance against the North. Reconstruction started after the Civil war between 1865-1876. During the Civil War, the North and South battled, (The North won) and the South laid in ruins. The United States was willing to let the South back in under some conditions, and that marked the day Reconstruction started. During the Reconstruction era, the South resisted the North’s help and Reconstruction died.

Reconstruction caused prejudice and inequality. To elaborate, the creation of the Ku Klux Klan and the Black Codes were both in the time period of reconstruction, which caused chaos and violence throughout the Union. One of the goals of reconstruction was to repair the economy in the South, because it depended on slavery, which was now illegal, due to the thirteenth amendment. The South’s economic system now depended on Sharecropping, which caused former slaves to be in constant debt and was unjust to the black society. The reconstruction time period, was a time of dispute between the Union.

The reconstruction period was a failure because African Americans, mainly males, were not treated with equality although the constitution said that the they were free and had the right to vote, be educated and had the right to liberty, life and the pursuit to happiness. Organizations, like the KKK, were created to harm freed slaves and their families. Laws were created such as the Black Codes restricting former slaves from their rights. African Americans endured a lot of violence over the years. “In Grayson, Texas, a white man and two friends murdered three former slaves because the wanted to ‘ thin the niggers out and drive them to their hole’”.

Reconstruction a Failure or Success? Throughout the years, America has gone through many different political changes. Many presidents selected with different plans for our future. Sadly, many of those objectives have failed or came to an end.
