Why Was Reconstruction Important To American History

The Reconstruction was important to American history because it gave all different types of people their rights. The fourteenth amendment, The Dawes act and The Homestead Act all have things in common. All of these acts involve something to do with race and or forcing people out of their homes or land. The fourteenth Amendment gave men of color “equal” rights to white men. This amendment was passed because people believed that every man deserves equal rights. This amendment protects people from getting their rights stripped from right underneath them, this amendment also helps protect all different types of people in court cases such as people of color and members of the LGBT+ community. This amendment ties into the Dawes Act to help protect Native Americans. The Dawes Act gave American Indians survey’s to get allotments and to make them move away from their tribes. White people kept forcing them out because they wanted more land for Westward Expansion and because they were very selfish people. This act needed to happen because every American citizen deserves to have a say in what happens within their own nation. This also shows that the government or any other person cannot force people out of their homes without a valid reason and proof. These acts are important parts to show what our country has become and what we are becoming as a nation. The Reconstruction was important to American history because it gave many people their equal rights. These acts all tie into the Reconstruction because it helped put this country in the decent state that it’s in, all we can do is share our opinions and hope that we have a good government that will do anything to protect all different types of people’s equal rights. Let’s just hope that we can continue to make this country better than the decent state that it’s currently
