Ancient Rome is a very significant time in history.Romans culture is very different and interesting.I will examine ancient Rome 's food,building and gods.Also major events like the fall of Rome and Pompeii disappearance.To get to know Rome I made 5 questions and found the answers. What was Pompeii and what happened to it?
The city, Pompeii was located in ancient rome, and was used as a large resort city. Disaster struck in 79 AD, and the city was buried under 20 feet of ashes from Mount Vesuvius, a volcano.Pompeii originally settled around the 7th century BC. Romans had a Mediterranean diet.In most of there food they had olive oil,barley and wine.The Patricians could afford to eat beef,pork and fish as well chicken.The poor slaves would eat lentils,vegetables,fruits and eggs.There breakfasts was a simple meal and really light.Lunch was a snack and dinner was a lush and delightful.Dinner was called "Cena".Romans loved there wine and had it every afternoon. What main buildings did the Romans empire have?
The colosseum is an ancient building in Rome.The colosseum was a large outdoor stadium that could set 50000 people.In the colosseum they had gladiator games,mock battles and chariot racing .Aqueduct was a long channels that is built to carry water.The water was used for drinking,baths and sewers.Baalbek is a grand temple in Rome to worship the God of heaven.There are other main buildings in Ancient Rome like pantheon,amphitheater and many more.

Ancient Rome Timeline Events Territorial Expansion Romans control all of Italy 270 BCE After many civil wars the Romans conquered and gained all control of Italy in 270 BCE. This event led to the beginning of the romans reign to power and control. This event was important to the history of Rome because it was the first step in a long reigning empire. Along with that, If this event never happened the Roman empire would virtually not exist. This is because the expansion that happened during this event started the whole upbringing of one of the most powerful empires.
America is very similar to Ancient Rome, but there are several differences. For example, the Roman Empire "fell" and America is still “standing”. Before ancient Rome “fell”, Rome started out as a small settlement of farmers on the Palatine hill. About one hundred years later, Rome became a republic. The Roman Empire started when Pax Romana or Roman peace began in 27 BCE under the rule of Augustus Caesar.
There were many different causes for the fall of the Roman empire, not just one. The Roman Empire was very strong, but eventually broke down over time for a multitude of reasons. Most of those reasons had to do with changes in Rome’s identity. Some of these changes in Rome’s identity led to the fall of Rome because they were so sudden; only portions of the Roman population were prepared for the change. Other times, citizens got into arguments because they were, in a way, too prepared.
Several household items have been found by archaeologists in Pompeii. From Mount Vesuvius’ eruption, the unprepared was buried by volcanic ash. It was destroyed quickly and was preserved like a time capsule. After the eruption archaeologists studied the remains of Pompeii. Many parents had to act as “doctor moms.”
The Romans and Their Leaders The Romans were an ancient people that occupied Italy and the surrounding area around the Mediterranean Sea. Chronologically, the Romans were governed by a monarchy, republic, and finally an empire. During the fall of the Republic and the rise of the empire, the citizens that rose to power in Rome all possessed the same characteristic. Two men that held power during this time, Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus(Octavian), possessed determination which allowed for them to be great military leaders. Julius Caesar was a marvelous general who conquered many nations during his reign as both consul and emperor, and he greatly expanded Rome’s territory.
Ancient Greece and Rome were very successful in both of their empires and how they expanded. However, Ancient Greece and Rome are quite diverse whenever you see how they created their empires and how they overall lived their lives. In 753 BC, The Ancient Roman Empire strived and conquered with power. They had many civil wars which included bloody battles and aggressive politics.
The most famous volcano in the world (Vesuvius) Mount Vesuvius is a volcanic mountain that is located east of the city of Naples and it considered as the only rebellious volcano in Europe as well as other volcanoes in the Italian islands. This volcano is famous by its eruption in 79 AD, which led to the destruction and burial of the Romanian cities Pompeii and Herculaneum and several other settlements, and continued for 16 years. The volcano buried the city with ash for 1,600 years until it was discovered in the eighteenth century. The volcano eruption begins in the afternoon of August 24 in 79, causing mounting clouds of smoke covered the sun and turned day into total darkness.
Rome was the center of one of the world's greatest empires. It began as an unremarkable settlement. Rome had become powerful by conquering territory. But Rome soon discovered that size has its problems. Controlling an expanded empire, meant a need for more food, clothing, weapons and supplies.
The sports and games held in the Ancient Roman world were important in several different aspects. They showed off wealth and power to other countries and opposing states as well as within Rome itself. They also were created to keep the peace as much as possible by keeping the people blissfully unaware of internal and external confrontations. The games would also allow people to climb up social chains and become large political and social figures within their community. Explain what Sources A to F reveal about food and dining in Pompeii and Herculaneum? Through the examination and interpretation of archaeological and written sources, such as wall writings, dining rooms and food remains, archaeologists and historians have been able to gain an insight into the food and dining of the Pompeian and Herculaneum people. Within the historical context, a triclinium is a room in the Roman house with three couches for dinning purpose. In Source A, the primary evidence of a triclinium in the House of the Cryptoporticus suggests its provenance in Pompeii which may help an historian to identify and understand its function, therefore highlighting the dinning aspect of people in Pompeii.
We understand that the birth of the coinage was invented not so much as a convenient but more of a necessity. The economic system was in shambles Debt, as it is even today is increasingly common. For maritime trade especially barter seems to be the most common form of exchange as the problem with coinage in the ancient world was that the value of coins between city-states was often different. Still, for the citizens of a particular city and surrounding territories coinage became a very useful way to buy and sell goods, and to pay for public services. Through out our reading we have learned of the roll the elephant played in the ancient world.
According to legend, Rome was created by Romulus and Remus sons of a god and abandoned. The founded Rome and Romulus kills his brother and becomes the first king of Rome in 753 BC. Rome became mixed with different type of people and cultures and it influenced their own culture greatly. One group that greatly influenced Rome were the Greeks, they brought with them when they moved to Rome the Greek alphabet, which the Romans adopted and tweaked, they helped influence the art and architecture that sometimes the Romans based their own buildings on. The group that had the most influence on the Rome was the Etruscans, they controlled Rome for a period of time and the Romans kept a lot of the characteristics like the iconic clothes that they are seen wearing and their army organization and tactics that will lead to Rome eventually becoming one of the strongest and long lasting empires in the history of the world.

The Roman Empire’s origin was something of a wonder, as it started off as a small town that slowly, but surely, grew into a great power. At first, Italy was engulfed by this incredible authority, but it would grow to spread around the Mediterranean Sea. Eventually, most of Europe, the Middle East and Africa were a part of this legendary empire (Allan, 7). Because of its location on the Mediterranean Sea, trade flourished throughout Rome, assisting in building its glory. Rome had experienced a tremendous golden age.
