First would be the career I wish to pursue in. My dream career is to be a police officer and many departments will not hire a person if they do not obtain a degree in Criminal Justice. The thought of becoming a police officer is one of my biggest motivators and that is why I will keep going until graduation! Another thing that motivates me to graduate is that it has always been a life goal of mine. The day I can say I have my masters in criminal justice is the day I know I have reached my biggest life goal! I have always had people doubt my ability in finishing college and getting a career. I not only want to prove them wrong, I also want to give myself the self fulfillment I deserve. The last thing that will keep me motivated to keep going until graduation is of course, my son and fiance. When I feel frustrated and dis-motivated, my fiance is always there making sure I am getting my school work done and telling me that I can do this. He has the attitude of a personal trainer when it comes to my school work. I also want my son to know that his mother graduated college with a masters and hopefully he will have the same intentions. Next in importance, how will I stay motivated throughout my courses? This is a valued question that I need to take into severe consideration in order to be a successful college student .There are many ways I can stay motivated. One way is by setting aside a time each
I am the youngest in my family, but I am also the only child in my family to attend a 4-year university. I value education and I work diligently to do the best I can in anything I commit myself to. Although my parents do not demand much from me, I put the pressure on myself because I want to make them proud and have a better future for myself and for my family. My parents never had the opportunity to chase their dreams; however, I have the support of my family and the funding from this country to pursue my dreams. I understand the road to my aspirations is not going to be easy, but I am committed to dedicating the necessary time and
I have over 18 aunts and uncles who provide constant encouragement every time we converse. Their motivation constantly changes as I progress to a more mature adult. Today, I am receiving constant encouragement and motivation because I will be graduating college soon. As a first generation college student, this motivates to become look beyond the horizon to seek new opportunities to make them proud. Although aunts and uncles’ involvement does not equal the involvement of a grandparent per se, their loving attitudes coincides to help me better myself and this mindset all started with the initial involvement they had in my life as a child.
What Has Influenced Me To Attend A Post-Secondary Education Institution? When I was in the fifth grade I had joined West Side Boys & Girls Club they had opened my eyes on how to be friendly and how to respect others around you. They had prepared me on how to include people and how to open up myself and how to get ready for college and what it has to offer me.
From my grandma, I learned how to be patient and persistent. My family I have now isn 't my original family, but I have learned to adapt and transform to my surroundings. The rest of my family has made a huge contribution to who I am today. I immediately knew that in order to survive and be successful in this country, I would have to start college. Seeing my dad working hard as an electrical technician I always wanted to be an electrical engineer. With my husband support and encouragement I started my college. Upon my arrival to The United State of America my husband was working in small company and the money he was earning was not good enough to support our entire family. Even then I started my semester with his savings, but I knew I would have to do something in order to support him and my educational needs.
Going back to school has always been on my mind but never a priority. I allowed other life distractions to interfere. After what seems like years of trying to find my identity and motivation, I have finally decided to go back to school to better not only my life but my daughter’s as well. Being a single mother of one, I want my daughter to see that not only your skill set, but a college degree is a great way to start your career and meet the expectations you set for yourself. The expectations I have for myself are finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and eventually finishing with my MBA in Human Resources.
In the future there are many obstacles that can keep you from succeeding in college, but there are also things that could support you to keep on going. When you are in college you have to make adjustments in order to feel engaged and prepared. You have to know your strengths and weaknesses so you can achieve in some things and get better in others. To figure out your strengths or weaknesses in some areas you can complete a discovery wheel as i did in chapter one.
Life gets hard, and I am going to have to push through. Being on National Honor Society is an accomplishment; I have maintained an A average for 16 consecutive quarters of high school. I am always sure to have my assignments done on time, and I do the best of my ability to use my resources, ask questions, and correct my mistakes if needed. Applying myself to my schooling is important because if I don’t apply myself now, college isn’t going to be
I knew college would lead me to be more knowledgeable about this world and show me opportunities that I never seen before. What motivate me to go to college was my family. My parents’ has never gone to college, so I’m the first in my family to go to college. I want to be someone unique in my family. Every time things got hard, both my mom and dad would tell me to “Focus, take school serious so that you can be successful and help us in the future”. Those words were my call to adventure. That was my motivation, that made me graduate high school and enroll myself at College of Saint Elizabeth. I decided to attend college because I knew that, that would make my parents happy.
Overall, I wish to attend college to better all aspects of my life. I desire to maximize my potential and work ethic to become better. Being a first generation student will not be easy, for I have no one to tell me about experiences. I am very proud and honored to tell people that I am in college.
I can vividly remember the advice given to me by my high school counselor. I was broken down, whispering to myself that I was not college bound. It was my counselor who made me realize that persistence was a key factor to continuing my education. The wisdom that was shared to me that day was instilled into my mind and was endorsed in my heart. I want to be the person that gives a glimpse of hope to students that need an extra push through education, just like it was given to me.
