America has the highest rate of homicide along with the most guns per person. Lawmakers are trying to argue about gun control in other countries already causing less of a chance of gun related deaths. Countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom have had small amounts of success with their gun laws but, crime does not seem to have dropped off like they hoped. Adding all of the new gun laws and regulations in America would most likely get the same end result as those two countries. Despite Norway suffering one of the worst public shootings in recent memory, their gun laws still seem rather loose. “Though Norway ranked tenth worldwide in gun ownership, according to the Small Arms Survey, it placed near the bottom in gun-homicide rates.” (“CFR …show more content…
These few hundred people are creating a whirlwind of problems for all the other gun owners in America. Though the crimes are severe, placing the blame on everybody for one's mistake is wrong. The several few people doing the shootings are creating a backlash that the American public is forced to deal. Creating the new gun laws in response to a couple of people's actions is not the correct thing to do. Forcing people that clearly do not want new gun control to pay for others mistakes is creating a divide within our society. This would be like if there was a slight increase in drunk driving accidents and people wanted new regulations on driving. Those who never partake in drunk driving would be forced to pay the prices for someone else's …show more content…
Children will get ahold of the gun and think it is a new toy; The child normally ends up getting severely injured or killed in the accident. “In Georgia, Cassie Culpepper, 11, was riding in the back of a pickup with her 12-year-old brother and two other children. Her brother started playing with a pistol his father had lent him to scare coyotes. Believing he had removed all the bullets, he pointed the pistol at his sister and squeezed the trigger. It fired, and blood poured from Cassie’s mouth.” (“Children and Guns: The Hidden Tolls” 1) Gun related accidents involving children happen almost everyday in America. Placing the blame on the lack of gun control is not the way to solve it. The only thing that deserves the blame is the parents. It is their fault for leaving the gun out to where the child was able to get ahold of it. Keeping guns locked and hidden from any children could cut down on the amount of gun related accidents. Proper education or lack thereof is another factor in the situation. If parents could give their kids a proper education about gun safety at a young age, children might stay away from the
Their work and research provide reliable, valuable and yet unbiased insights on both the impact guns can impose on the society and, at the same time, show how gun control can positively influence the social aspect and culture of a society as
Advocates of gun control say that the recent shootings prove that the Nations gun laws are way too weak (Smith, Patricia). Ladd Everitt of the Coalition to stop gun violence tells that these tragedies expose how weak our gun laws are. Ladd Everitt says that our laws are inadequate and utterly insane (Smith,
In order for citizens to buy guns, they must pass a background check, photo license I.D., and a gun safety test. All guns must have a mandatory child safety lock to prevent any injuries or death. In the U.S. alone, there are more than 10,00 gun homicides and more than 20,00 people are killed by firearms each year. My party finds that it is unlawful for kids age 3 to 10 to be given a handgun, whether it’s for hunting or protection. Children mostly in the age range of 5 to 14 are 17 times more likely to be murdered by firearms than children in other industrial nations.
Suddenly this leads to the chance that the weapon could end up in the wrong hands with a student securing it or the assailant finding it and increasing his or her weapon power. Some think that innocent children would not touch a gun or know how to use it, but Ken Corbett (2013), an assistant professor of psychology at the New York University, proclaims, “Kids get their hands on guns, and they know how to use them” (para. 7). As a matter of fact, Corbett also includes a 2010 FBI homicide statistic in his article: “The most up-to-date FBI homicide data indicate that of the 1,448 children who died as a result of gun violence in 2010, 165 of those deaths were at the hands of other children” (para. 7). A little over eleven percent of those deaths were caused by other children, nonetheless, those 165 deaths could have been avoided if the guns were secured or not
Thus, lawmakers need to step up and pass stricter gun control laws. When compared to other developed countries, the USA has a higher gun related
Gun control By conner clark Did you know that americans have more guns than anyone else on earth and that more than 30,000 americans die each year to firearms. Well that is what these two articles are teaching us that america does not have a lot of gun laws for guns and how people show more animosity towards gun laws after all of the shootings. These two articles are similar but yet are still really different.
Children often grow up to have big dreams, yet they all be crumbled by the tragic events of a school shooting in seconds. This all gets ruined by one thing in their environment such as gun violence and gun violence may lead to death. This violence can destroy a kid's mindset and mold them to be someone different from what they were raised to be. While gun laws over gun control have been changing, they are still causing multiple problems for individuals such as children, and causing mental health issues for them in the future.
Parents are not teaching their children how to properly handle and respect a firearm. Along with the parents, society feels
These and various more traumatic events is why America should change its gun control laws. Since these individuals are not using guns for the right reason, they need to take disciplinary actions and make it more restricted. According to President Barack Obama, 30,000 American citizens have lost their life due to bear arms. Barack Obama also stated “In 2013 alone, more than 500 people lost their lives to gun accidents- and that includes 30 children younger than 5 years old” (King). Since so many lives are being lost in major traumatic events, the United States of America needs to be able to protect its
In fact, this issue is broad and has different faces depending on which angle you look at it. This paper will analyze the different faces of the issue, those who are mostly affected by gun violence, the areas with the most numbers of gun related violence as well as the periods that were mostly
Children have toy guns at home, video games, and watch it on TV. Anyone with a change in mental status or with intent of hurting themselves or another person should not be able to get hold of a gun. Gun owners often leave firearms in reach of other family members without unloading them, increasing the risk of injury and fatality weather it is accidental or intentional. If gun owners receive education on the importance of locking firearms away and unloading them, they are less likely to end up in the hands of others. In case a situation where a family member does
Children are curious and dont understand how dangerous a firearm is. Restricting access to firearms in the home ensures a higher chance of unintentional injuries from occurring. Owning a gun is already a huge risk but the most vital part is how you store and lock up
A lot of people have guns in the United States so the logical reason is to teach them. Butch Jensen has a good point. If you are going to teach children gun safety, you should start with a lower caliber gun, like a BB gun or a .22 rifle
This has an adverse impact on their mental, social, and physical health. Many may presume that once the child’s gun is confiscated, the problem is solved; however, this is far from reality; getting a gun away from a child is one objective, and the rehabilitation process is another. Amnesty International is running a campaign to raise awareness of this major underlying issue. The problem starts with society.
Individuals who don't look into the owning of handguns and structure their feeling off of what they see on the news are left oblivious. A standout amongst the most misjudged ideas is that more weapons cause more savagery. This is false more weapons don't mean more crimes. In 1973, the handgun stock was 36.9 million and the murder rate was 9.4 for every 100,000. In 1992, the handgun stock was
