Ocean Literacy, as defined in the article “Ocean Literacy: The Essential Principles of Ocean Sciences Grades K–12,” is an understanding of the ocean’s influence on you and your influence on the ocean (1). There are seven principles of ocean literacy; the Earth has one big ocean with many features, the ocean and life in the ocean shape the features of Earth, the ocean is a major influence on weather and climate, the ocean makes the Earth habitable, the ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems, the ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected, and the ocean is largely unexplored (COSEE, 3). Principle #6 states that both the ocean and humans are ‘inextricably interconnected’ meaning that the two are impossible to separate and …show more content…
People are not only affected by the ocean, the ocean is also affected greatly by people. Firstly, human development, such as the construction of a river or a dam, can change the ocean geologically. The reason behind this is that the Earth’s ocean is all connected with multiple basins. Secondly, human activities, such as diving, can affect the ocean through the unnatural invasion of the marine environment without proper knowledge of what to do. Thirdly, the ocean and its inhabitants are greatly affected by marine pollution. Marine pollution is the entrance of hazardous materials into the ocean. The ocean can be polluted a number of ways, including garbage, sewage, and noise. Garbage pollutes the ocean by disturbing marine life and tarnishing the marine environment, it can also damage ships. Sewage pollutes by adding dangerous chemicals to the ocean and depleting oxygen used by the animals. Noise pollution is the release of sounds that mix with the frequencies dolphins and whales use to communicate (“What are-, 1).Through the effect of human development and marine pollution on the ocean, it is show that humans and the ocean are

Ocean v. A Skewed Religion Christopher Francis “Frank” Ocean is an American singer, songwriter and rapper. In 2012, Frank Ocean published a letter announcing his bisexuality. The announcement was met with an array of responses; support came from fellow artists and fans and persecution came from religious individuals with conservative views (“Reactions to Frank Ocean'”). The negative responses overshadowed the support Ocean received since the impact of hate is stronger than that of love. In this track Ocean harnesses this sorrow and criticizes religious views on alternative sexual orientations.
Caught by the Sea: My Life on Boats Caught by the Sea: My Life on Boats is about the Gary Paulsen’s life on the sea. In this book he talks about his main voyage. Mr. Paulsen just got out of the army and had nothing to do and nowhere to be. For some reason he wanted to go see the beach so bad that he felt like he was going to die.
Do you remember that day that you and your family took a trip to that one park? That one that you got to see many different types of sea animals, dolphins putting on shows, and getting to even interact with the sea animals in a great learning experience. That park is SeaWorld. When you were there, you might have not noticed the stuff that was happening behind the scenes. Lately, the animals have been very sad and not living healthy lives.
SeaWorld is a billion dollar company based in the U.S. They specialise in the taking care of animals, such as killer whales, dolphins and sea lions. They have over 67,000 animals in their care and are rescuing more and more every day. Despite common belief, SeaWorld does not abuse the animals themselves. The workers of SeaWorld try their best every single day to look after every species of animal, and in return, are now being hassled and abused for it.
High controversy exists on the capture and containment of all organisms in the world today. However, due to extremely popular public attractions Orcas have stayed under heavy debate on the right and wrong of zooing situations. People alike on the side against the containment of orcas have created a rigged documentary Blackfish, assessing the harm corporations, primarily Seaworld, cause in containing orcas. Because of the heat, I will be assessing the evidence the movie gives as well as Seaworld's rebuttal, then gauge its strength. This essay is also not limited to the response of Sea World in a orca Related situation.
A child 's face fills with excitement as they enter a huge building that largely proclaims a sign that says ´SeaWorld. ´ The thrill of seeing animals that they don 't normally see fills the child to the brim. Their elated feelings rise as they walk into the Shamu Stadium, with an announcer welcoming them. They 're so happy that they don 't realize that they 're about to witness inhumane acts for entertainment. Sea World is an inhumane facility, and needs to be shut down.
Exploring the ocean could help people understand Earth better to.
The ocean, however, has major benefits: providing food, medicine, and the air we breathe. Oceans can bring much more to the table, if we would simply explore more of them. Space provides both medicinal and technological advancements, yet the ocean not only brings those about, but also has a plethora of more benefits including jobs. Oceans benefit the population in many ways, one of them being income.
Marine organisms are animals, plants, and other living things that live in the ocean. A Marine biologist is a scientist who studies marine organisms and studies the bodies, behavior, and the history of marine organisms. They also study how marine organisms interact with each other and their environment. I have chosen to research about Marine biology because I would like to learn about sea life, the ocean, and its surrounding environment. To start off, a Marine biologist might study coral, crabs, fish, microscopic marine organisms, sea stars, seaweed, squid, or whales.
A. There are other ways also that affects the ocean through global warming. Plenty of things that are happening to the ocean are associated to global warming. One important thing is warm water which is caused from global warming and it is harming and killing algae in the
Are they impacting it in a bad or good way?The national geographics state that, “Hurricanes and typhoons, storm surges, tsunamis and the like can cause massive, though usually temporary, disruptions in the life cycles of ocean plants and animals. Human activities, however, are significantly more impactful and persistent.” (https://www.nationalgeographic.com)Humans are destroying the ocean, but they’re not the only thing that is destroying. Yes we cant stop those from happening but we cans top putting things inside witch is destroying our earth, mixed in with mother nature, we definitely need to stop. With what “mother nature” can do we cant risk anything happening to the ocean (which is actually talking, could potentially destroy the earth.)What are we doing, and how are they impacting the earth? The same site acknowledges that, “sea turtles swim around the worlds warm oceans and nest on the beach.
While researching about how pollution affects sea turtles, we faced some issues on finding different types of pollution. As most people know, the plastic waste that is being dumped into the oceans and onto the beaches is becoming a main food source for sea turtles. When sea turtles see this trash, they consume the plastic causing death or severe sickness which has caused this species to become endangered. They also get tangled with the plastic in the ocean restricting them from normal movement and function. During our research, we found that there are more types of pollution affecting sea turtles than just plastic waste in the ocean.
The ocean… The sound of the waves applauding and hugging the shore. The internal sounds of the body out in the world’s biggest swimming pool. The echo of my sister’s laughter. The salty smell so strong that one can taste it dancing on ones taste buds.
The ocean is nowadays undergoing numerous environmental issues that further lead to marine pollution. Marine pollution is a very serious environmental issue that most of the countries of the world encounter. Aquatic littering is considered as one of the major causes of marine environment. The misleading use of the marine environment is extremely impacting the marine life and ecosystems. Moreover, the total amount of toxins and debris discharged by human beings is incredibly increasing in today 's world.
