Ocean V. Space Exploration The ocean covers more than 70% of the Earth, yet we’ve explored only around 5% of it. This means there is so much more to explore in the ocean. The one reason we haven’t explored as much of the ocean is because of space. Space is wildly more popular, and has proven its worth with many advancements. The ocean, however, has major benefits: providing food, medicine, and the air we breathe. Oceans can bring much more to the table, if we would simply explore more of them. Space provides both medicinal and technological advancements, yet the ocean not only brings those about, but also has a plethora of more benefits including jobs. Oceans benefit the population in many ways, one of them being income. Many jobs stem from …show more content…
Thousands of people eat fish and the number keeps on growing, it is one of the healthiest meats out there. “Fish and mollusks provide an "important source of protein for a billion of the poorest people on Earth, and about three billion people get 15 percent or more of their annual protein from the sea," says Matthew Huelsenbeck” (Amitai 68). On the issue of food, NASA is atypically mum. It does not claim it will feed the world with whatever it finds or plans to grow on Mars, Jupiter, or any other place light years away. The oceans are likely to be of great help. With food, energy, and attacks on global warming the ocean has hit a grand slam. That leaves space feeling quite inadequate compared to the deep …show more content…
Space agencies around the world have a long history of collaboration, including with public health agencies. Space has also provided many new human experiences, such as zero gravity training. This training has showed various effects on the human body, helping scientist to better analyze the human body.” devices developed for space missions, such as the robotic arm that was used to assemble the international space station, have been adapted into a smaller robotic device for use in surgery” (Pascal 519). This robotic arm helps to be more precise during surgery, making the rate of casualty lower. Space has helped hone the skills of scientist. By using satellite technology for space, they were able to use the same concept for Earth. Even with all the benefits of space, its major down falls are cost, risks, and low chances of reward for their efforts. Many space explorations cost fortunes with little to come out of it, making it almost seem not worth it. The risk is another key factor, with little known about the majority of space, many outliers can appear out of nowhere and can cause death to anyone that happens to be working up there. These contingencies are less likely to occur exploring the ocean, it cost less, we know enough to make sure there are little risks, as well as knowing that are explorations will have some kind of reward for our
However this is misguided because of the cost of space exploration. Space exploration is very expensive. If we go out and explore space and end up finding out that we can 't survive on any other planet, other than Earth, all the money and resources we used to to launch that spacecraft, goes down the
Is Major Exploration Worth the Risk? Millions of dollars are constantly being invested into major exploration, but is it worth the risk? Some may say that the major exploration isn’t worth the risk because explorers may die while exploring. Those explorers were innocent people, and exploration meant that their lives would be put at risk. On the other hand, others may dispute that major exploration benefitted the people more than it harmed them.
The ocean in Coastal Peru affects how crops grow and even how cold the climate is. The ocean provides fish and mist to water crops. One of these crops is quinoa, and people catch fish like squid, crab, and trout. The hyperborean climate comes from mist that comes from these oceans. Coastal Peru is greatly affected by the ocean.
In the text, “Is Space Exploration Worth the Cost?” the author, Joan Vernikos, discusses the advancements in technology, due to space exploration. According to Vernikos, “Observing Earth has provided G.P.S., meteorological forecasts, predictions and management of hurricanes and other natural disasters, and global monitoring of the environment, as well as surveillance and intelligence” (Vernikos 65). This proves that space exploration has led to countless new inventions that are used in everyday life. This is significant because without all these innovative ideas space has inspired, life would be more challenging.
Space research may be interesting but it is not worth it when it is endangering and even killing people. We have plenty of research to do here on Earth, and problems to solve before we travel to problems beyond the world we live
Exploring the ocean could help people understand Earth better to.
The space race helped our world to develop. There are many things that developed after the space race. Such as satellite TV, laptops, the dust busters, smoke/carbon dioxide detectors, telemedicine, joysticks, 3D graphics, Non-reflective displays, ear thermometer, and GPS. These are things that were developed after the space
Christopher Reeve once said, “Either you stay in the shallow end of the pool or you go out in the ocean.” Having been growing up on a boat during the summer for a majority of my life, I have always been surrounded by the ocean. I’ve been exposed to an abundance of different species of marine life, along with their environments. However, the bottom of the ocean has always been a mystery to me; I have never been able to see the surface of the seafloor first hand. Up until today, only about 5% of the ocean has been explored; this percentage will drastically increase due to the Atlantic Ocean disappearing.
It gave us a vision towards the future. What the world had in store for us. It effects us by giving us satillites in the sky, because we would not be able to warn people when there is a hurrican, tornado, or a severe thunder storm is approaching. The Space Race also inspired little kids about what they wanted to be when they grow up.
The main outreach of the United States government that explores new boundaries never investigated before, designs products never thought possible before, and most importantly inspires people, has had its budget slashed. According to Goldstein (2007), NASA was originally created to beat the Soviet Union in the Space Race has taken on many different roles. In an article for NASA’s website, J.R. Wilson (2008) uses Dr. Michael DeBakey, a heart surgeon, as an example of someone who felt the benefit of NASA’s wide research scope. Dr. DeBakey now uses a heart pump in surgerys, invented because of the research done by NASA (Wilson, 2008). One of NASA’s many inventions that directly improve the lives of Americans.
Water is also a good source of many fish and seafood, so a good source of food. You will also find
We learned to monitor orbiting astronauts- pioneering telemedicine & leading to unprecedented improvements in patient monitoring”(Fowler, 1). Funding for space exploration could help physicians go into space, test materials, bring them back (if promising), and use them on patients. Also adding to that, “ We would be a much more healthy planet and society, if we stopped warring with each other and wasting precious minerals that we have on this Earth -on- war, we would have more resources to spend on more important things such as daily

During the age of discovery there roamed many great explorers from England, Spain, Portugal, France, and many other significant countries to this time period. Without theses courageous men, America might not have been what it is today. Individuals praise explorers for discovering and making the New World what it is today, but many overlook the bad that had been done. The worst things that have been done in history are enforcing religion on innocent Native Americans , spreading various diseases to the indigenous people of the Americas along with other Europeans, and using American goods to expand trade, which had later lead to the start of the slave trade in many prospering countries striving for wealth. However, without these tragic events history would be completely different and the Americas would not be as we know them today
Humans are always interested in exploring unknown, new worlds, boundaries of scientific and technical areas, and further more (Wiles). Our desire to explore and discover new things have provided benefits to our civilizations. For example, Columbus and many explorers in Age of Exploration, a period from the early 15th century to early 17th century (Sheppard), proved Aristotle’s theory that our world is round with his explorations. Also, Columbus found new continent, America. This proves that our interest could be another cause of space exploration.
