The ocean…
The sound of the waves applauding and hugging the shore. The internal sounds of the body out in the world’s biggest swimming pool. The echo of my sister’s laughter. The salty smell so strong that one can taste it dancing on ones taste buds. The ocean looked like an enormous pool of wonder. It was exceptionally blue that day with a slight green undertone. The surface looked as though it was covered with millions of diamonds crashing with the waves and kissing the sand. I remember the sand in between my feet, like standing on a coarse cloud that I could just seep into. The water teasing my toes and running back into hiding. Repeating the cycle getting closer and closer each time until I felt the rush of the current under me and the sand being pulled out from between my toes back into the ocean.
11 years later and the fond memories of the magical and wonderful ocean would be pulled out from under me like the current itself.
The day could not have felt more perfect.
It felt as though I was running through a montage of my life like in all the romantic movies. It felt as though everything was passing by in a blur yet ever so vivid. Like time had stopped yet moving so fast. The words I spoke felt unreal and the steps I took felt non-existent. I looked ahead of me and all I could see was white sand and the beautiful ocean rubbing up against it. My friends and I put down our towels to go swim.
Sydney, my friend, and I went into the water first. We felt the waves tugging at
Gentle sea breeze tickled my face as I watched wisps of white fluff drifted across a crystal clear blue sky. The rhythmic sound of the wave; the screeching of the sea birds was so familiar and hypnotic at the same time. However, my children’s pearls of laughter turned all the other sounds into background
As I sat down on the sand dunes I watched the crashing waves, when I scanned the beach I could see dogs running along going in and out of the waves and people galloping their horses up and down between the
The sounds were amplified, the seals barks echoing through the crisp, morning air and the waves zealously slamming against the rocks. The great magnitude of water sweeping up, and slamming against the algae hooded earth. I felt water droplets
Fifteen years ago in 2001, at the age of one, my parents brought me to Ocean City for the first time. During the summertime, Ocean City is quite the getaway spot with over 320,000 vacationers every year. As a small child of one-year-old, going to Ocean City was a huge step for me. I was overwhelmed from the monstrous amount of people all over the miles and miles of white sand beach. That first time of me going to Ocean City was where I took my first steps, made my first friends, and rode my first ride at a theme-park.
The moment I step from the scratchy green grass in my yard to the cool smooth leather of my boat, I feel as though I am in a completely different universe. Out on the open water, with the wind caressing her fingers through my hair, white spray shooting up from underneath, I can relax. I look backwards at the wake cutting through an otherwise tranquil surface with the ease and fluidity of a hot knife through butter. The water is a cool blue, save for the orange buoys dotting the shoreline like freckles.
Marine organisms are animals, plants, and other living things that live in the ocean. A Marine biologist is a scientist who studies marine organisms and studies the bodies, behavior, and the history of marine organisms. They also study how marine organisms interact with each other and their environment. I have chosen to research about Marine biology because I would like to learn about sea life, the ocean, and its surrounding environment. To start off, a Marine biologist might study coral, crabs, fish, microscopic marine organisms, sea stars, seaweed, squid, or whales.
I could feel the moist air touching my skin. The tranquil morning was suddenly loud. I could hear people constantly talking in their warm, snuggly rooms. I could see the blazing bright street lights, shining on me. The fog was very spooky.
It all started, when my family and I decided to go hiking at Pinnacle Mountain. We never would have thought that this astonishing achievement would happen. I remember that day, like it was yesterday, the day I faced my greatest fear. Hours went by waiting for my family to finish packing our bags making sure to grab everything that we might need in case of an emergency. With at least two or three bags fully packed and glutted, we rushed out the door, into the car and off we went.
The beautiful scenery captured my eyes immediately. Beautiful, glistening corals were deep beneath, multicolored fish scurrying. The bubbles coming out of my mask reflected all the different colors of the ocean directly onto my face. It was underwater heaven. I saw my partners scurrying around in the turquoise blue water.
Ocean currents and wind currents are a huge part of the systems on earth. They have global impact on our environment and on mankind. There are many currents which all have their own characteristics and effects on different parts of the world. One of the world’s major ocean currents is the Kuroshio Current, a north-eastward flowing current, which flows along Japan and eventually merges with the easterly drift of the north pacific. The current transports warm, tropical water towards the polar region.
When the sun shined on my skin, and salty ocean water ran through my feet, I felt extremely close to nature at that moment. There were numerous of water activities that people could do, such as swimming, diving, snorkeling, water skiing, coasteering, and sailing. The snorkeling was the most excited and fresh experience for me. I found myself wandering off into the deeper water all by myself and had absolutely lost sight of any other people. I could just forget everything else, and the entire underwater ocean scene has presented in front of me.
it it pulled me out farther in the ocean. Then another pull came and I held on my board as hard as I could. I was screaming for help but I was too far out for anybody to hear me.
I am waiting in my car for the rest of my team to arrive to training and I 'm scrolling through my phone 's camera roll. I come across a photo of my dad 's surfboat team all standing proudly, first place, on the podium. The 2017 Surf lifesaving nationals is such a vivid memory for me and I remember this weekend well… An abrupt piercing stream of light breaks on my face. Baffled by its brightness I grunt and moan for it to stop.
I remember the smell of murky water, almost like sulfur, but if I gazed at the sky long enough I would smell nothing but clean air. I would crouch by the creek and dip my fingers into the cold water and even colder dirt, but a warm breeze always found its way to me. It felt like laying in a clean pile of fresh laundry. If I sat still and silent long enough, little tiny crabs would crawl around on the surface. The tiniest flinch or twitch would send them into their burrowed holes.
I had never ending waves filling my eyes. I was as forlorn as a new widow and and felt bruised and sorrowful as the black stone under the blue sea. Nothing made sense. My life was over. Sometimes I wondered if she had 'gone on ' to some place and just did not want to come back.
