Greetings President Lightstone, Deans, Faculty, and to all the beautiful faces seated before me. Thank you for this nerve-racking, headache inducing, gut-wrenching opportunity to address the graduating class of 2015. In spite of the aforementioned pains, I have to deliver this speech with utmost confidence and such conviction that what I have to say could be of great benefit or have most of you here at a complete loss. I shall gain most of your attention just by standing here and admitting that I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. Nevertheless, it is with great hope that my message be grasped, that there will be a laugh or two and maybe even some tears. Journal entry, May 6th, 2012; “To think and give rational thought to what is possible …show more content…
The first time I felt like there was meaning to what I had to say, think or write and that it was worth something was when my mother; not a professor, never having read anything from me before finally did so, and she said to me, “I was going to tell you that I liked what you wrote. But I don’t think it was appropriate to give such a simple compliment to something that came from your soul, your very essence”. You are what you say, do, write and think. Never let anyone or anything, especially fear -hinder that. Persistence in doing things on my own, not seeking approval continuing to push forth in the face adversity- it molded me. So many times throughout my life, I hoped and wished that things would work out the way I wanted it. When, in fact, I was going about things all wrong instead I should have played the devil’s advocate in life. In so doing, show everyone including myself that everything that surrounded me and came from me, was going to be beautiful and meaningful in its own way. You can’t go back and change certain aspects now but from this moment forward - Keep putting your best foot …show more content…
Here, where you learnt that if you skipped a class; you will fail, period. People won 't take your bullshit. As well as there is only so many excuses you can come up with until people start catching on. The stuff you did in your time here doesn’t make you bad person nor does it make you perfect if you played by the rules. Perfection doesn 't exist, strive for it but be ready to come up a bit short most of the time- that isn 't a failure. I’m sure, you found out about certain things it, you probably learnt more about yourself and you probably let go of a lot of things as well as people. There isn 't a box to fit in; this life isn’t a one-way street; you aren 't one person. Let all the parts of you out and tap into everything and continue to draw and build yourself. Appreciate everyone and everything. It was an experience, after all- An expensive one – but an experience nonetheless. One day you’ll come to say, “You wouldn 't trade it for anything in the world”. Your four or four years went by in a haze of drugs and alcohol and stress and disappointment. You tried new things, some you loved and some you hated. Even with all that as you take this step into the unknown, new found knowledge and experiences continue to live, thrive and survive trying new things; find your balance and enjoy. Not everything was eloquently said, be that as it may, but I’m sure you got the point. So thank you, and remember that you should always appreciate
In conclusion, my past has shaped who I am in ways unimaginable to the majority of my peers. Poverty and parenthood are two situations I became accustomed to early in my life. These events have taught me to persevere through any circumstances I may encounter. Considering my family has always depended on me, depending on people has never been an
In my life, much has shaped me to be the person that I am today. For example, I am bullied and have been for many years. I kept it to myself and let it grow worse. Then, last year I found a teacher that I felt I could trust and told this teacher everything that had and was still happening.
The things that my parents encountered made me a grateful person. I was fortunate enough to receive the right guidance in life to succeed. Port Arthur, Texas has made me into a motivated and determined person wanting to help the less fortunate. Surviving Hurricane Ike in 2008 gave me the mindset that anything is possible. Experiencing the crime made me very close to my family and friends because they could be dead the next
Walking into graduation, every graduate expects to hear the same speech with little variance about reaching an important milestone in life but still having many more milestones. Paul Hawken delivered a different message with his commencement address, You Are Brilliant and the Earth Is Hiring. His message was filled with hope for the future since people are working together to build a better world for all. Hawken begins with, “Humanity is coalescing.
"Right here, this was it" Jonathan says. He points to a regular looking tree. "That 's what you said about the last three" Mike says. "I know, but this has to be it.
Morgan Freeman once said, “Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen - that stillness becomes a radiance” (Freeman). One must be silent in order to collect thoughts and determine what a person should establish to hold meaning in his life. Professor of Engineering at Stanford University, Bernard Roth has written a self- help book connected to letting life happen. The Achievement Habit is about achieving dreams and improving the self and “directly gain understanding and experience about personal issues that matter to them” (Roth). Roth, in chapter 1, “Nothing is What You Think It Is,” argues that people establish their own meaning and others should not judge people too soon, or ever.
Most importantly, I have learned the strength it takes to be successful. I have seen first hand from my parents, if you really want something bad enough you will do whatever it takes to see it through. Whether that be through my education, musical career, or my personal life, I choose to make the best out of whatever hand that I am dealt and continue to strive to be the best person that I can
I am truly honored to be considered for being a part of The national honor Society. Being a part of this organization has been a goal for me since I first knew about what it was, and how it does great things for the community. I am inspired when I hear the great actions it national honor Society has done and I hope to be a part of this admirable organization. I feel I am qualified to be a part of this organization because of my dedication and hard work. Every day I follow the same routine.
At a very young age, I’ve always been interested in helping and teaching others the power of knowledge. It mostly stems from the knowledge I was taught by my loved ones. Being the youngest in my family. There was always someone looking out for me and always tending to my needs. That someone was my magnificent mother, Tonya Hunt.
I learned that life is going to be messy and different. I changed for the better after the move and I wouldn’t be who I am if I
Something that contributes to how I define myself is the babysitter I had as a child. Her name was Janina Kolanek, we called her Jean, and she was a polish immigrant. She taught me a whole load of life lessons, both directly and indirectly, that shaped me into the person I am today. Jean didn’t necessarily have the best life. She was a prisoner of war in the Holocaust as a child and she never saw her family again after that.
Good evening class of 2016 and guests. It is an honor to stand before you tonight. If I 'm being completely honest, I was absolutely clueless about what to say in this speech. But over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on what Baldwin High School has meant to me and what comes next. And during my reflection, I found myself thinking about time.
Congratulations! You are invited to join the founding National English Honor Society at Chancellor High School for the 2016-2017 school year. As a found chapter, members will be responsible for creating and developing the very foundation of this honor society at Chancellor High School. Some of the responsibilities of founding members are naming the chapter, electing officers, creating bylaws, holding an induction ceremony, and carrying out chapter service and activity projects.
I wanted to enjoy my life, but not in way where I took the wrong action to please myself. I discovered that I wasn’t a person who likes to feel that upset all the time and always be thinking of what I did wrong. Instead I wanted to be the person who learns from a mistake and improves from it. I discovered that I can change for my well being and for the well being of others. In addition, over the course of this stage in life I learned to find out what who I really wanted to be.
I have been brought into a new life, this experience has brought me to overcome obstacles that I never would have been able to do
