Yes, students should still have to be required to read shakespeare. Students should have to read and study Shakespeare because he introduced about one thousand seven hundred words to the english language. Without Shakespeare we would not have most of the sonnets and plays we have today, the amount of plays and sonnets he has written includes thirty seven plays and one hundred fifty four sonnets. That's quite a bit of literature, which many believe students should have to study. Some people disagree with the fact that students should have to still be required to read shakespeare because they look at him as just another writer, but he is more than just another writer. The language that shakespeare uses is a original beautiful language that everyone, not just students should be exposed to. If shakespeare was not a mandatory essential than students would not have the opportunity to be exposed to almost a different language of literacy that is so classic and beautiful.
