Shaun of the Dead, a unique film among its horror siblings
Zombies, a genre that has taken the over the world, it’s difficult to turn around the corner and not hear someone or something reference it. While the vast amount of gore present may turn a lot of people off, there are alternatives available. Among them is the 2004 British romantic zombie comedy movie Shaun of the Dead, directed by Edgar Wright. It tells the story of Shaun, a man attempting to obtain a handle on his life, get back with the love of his life Liz, deal with his unemployed, incompetent friend Ed and his parents; all of this in the middle of a zombie uprising. The flick on itself makes for a good time for long-time zombie fans with its homages to George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead while attracting newbies onto the genre with its comedic elements

At the opening sequence, we see various people working at jobs with minimal pay, perform the same, tiring, daily routine with very little thought. It gives off the impression that these people are already zombies themselves.Seemingly mindless beings, unaware and/or uninterested in what is around them. It isn’t much different from a great part of the global population, keeping their faces glued to the screen on their mobile devices as we are generally unattentive to important matters unfolding around us, only focusing on our electronic devices, unable/uncaring to fix the flawed system we are part of. Taking a look at what we might become (or already are) makes it frightening, a factor discussed in Amy Wilentz’s “A Zombie is a Slave Forever” article. “The zombie is scary...in a primordial way, too...The zombie is devoid of consciousness and therefore unable to critique the system that has entrapped him”
Just over ten years ago, Cloverfield was released to the public. The movie starts off as a group friends prepare for a going away party. During the party, New York City begins to start having mysterious earthquakes and power outages. The entire movie follows the group of friends as they try to get to their friend stuck in her apartment building, and then getting out of the city while trying to avoid whatever is terrorising the city. 10 years later, The Cloverfield Paradox was released.
When people think of small town beauty pageants, Drop Dead Gorgeous is a good film to make their image come to film. The film has a good satirical comedic plot with hints of dark humor that many young adults or teens would find humorous. The mockumentary style dark comedy is about a Minnesota, small town beauty pageant. The story follows a group of teenage contestants as they compete for the title of Mount Rose America Teen Princess.
The author presents the question “What would different theories of international politics predict would happen if the dead began to rise from the grave and feast upon the living?” (pg. 1) Before approaching aforesaid question we must discover what constitutes a zombie? Chapter 3 “Defining a Zombie” says zombies are, “biologically definable, animated beings with the desire to eat human flesh” (pg. 21). Further into Chapter 3, the reader
In 2017, comedian Jordan Peele released Get Out, a horror movie that follows Chris Washington, a young black man, meeting his girlfriend’s family for the first time. The conflict arises from the tension created due to the fact that Rose, his girlfriend, and her family, the Armitages, are white. They pride themselves on being liberals who “would’ve voted for Obama a third time” but support black stereotypes (Moiz). Peele writes them to represent white liberalism which is those who identify with the Democrat party but are hypocritical in their actions towards minority groups. Peele portrays the hypocrisy through satirical horror, but unlike traditional horror films “the terror isn’t some usual monster, ghost, or other menace, but it is actually white people and their racism” (Moiz).
Throughout time, many individuals and societies have come to know the one and only term that both science and literature have explored--zombies. This term has evolved into many different interpretations to the point where almost all individuals assume that a “zombie” is a false accusation, a fiction’s use for entertainment, a frivolous means to scaring society. Many cultures has skewed many minds into believing that a “zombie” apocalypse is impossible. But what if it is possible? Over time, both literature and science fiction has implemented a stereotypical undead “zombie” that has a stench of the grotesque decaying flesh and wonders around screeching in search for nothing but mushy brains to feast upon.
This quote tells the reader that he is reliable person and whatever he writes is a reliable reference as well. In Chuck Klosterman article, “My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead,” he effectively shows the audience by using logos, ethos, and pathos why zombies are so popular. Klosterman uses emotional appeal, creditability, and logic reasoning to show the readers that zombie are popular and why they are like modern life. He excellently illustrates to the reader why zombies are on the widespread and
At the time of its release, Night of the Living Dead (Romero, 1968) was the first film of its kind. The movie was shot on an extremely low budget that utilized limited technology and infinite creativity. As a matter of fact, the creativity that George Romero displayed with this work has shaped many of the concepts that are used in the modern era of film making. The idea of zombies as the world knows them today can be directly correlated to the ones in the movie itself. Likewise, using graphic content the way Romero did was unheard of in this era.
While some believe “Bridesmaids” is inappropriate, it is worth seeing because it promotes friendship and growth with a mix of humor and vulgarity. Our movie features the main character Annie whose life is currently going downhill. She lost her dream business, can’t find love, and found out she will be playing the maid of honor at her best friend's wedding. Annie and Lillian have been best friends since their teenage years, and once Annie finds out she is the maid of honor at Lillian’s wedding, she is determined to make sure everything is perfect. Things do not go as planned however.
British cineaste Edgar Wright has one of those creative minds that you always expect a lot from. He traditionally delivers bold and nimble stories whose course of events suit tastes of both young and old generations. His filmography might not be so extensive, but includes a trio of mandatory flicks, in which he masterfully blended action and comedy genres, gaining deserved praise and a legion of followers around the world. They are “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”, two masterpieces, and also the extremely entertaining “The World’s End”. Only “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” didn't work for me, feeling like the weakest link.
When you put a well-known television actress as a horror heroine with a bunch of other child star actors into one thriller movie you will end up with an amazing slasher movie. Scream is an intricate “who done it” film with any characters and creative kill scenes that make it impossible to tell who the kill is. It is the classic film who originated the famous “Do you like scary movies?” line and the well-known “Ghost Face” mask, and with that Scream is was off and running into the hearts of all horror movie fans. Scream begins with a prank call received by Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore). She’s alone in a large house out in the middle of nowhere.

The article fails to show the other side of the story; the story of of the Zombies. Why the young generation has taken up such step, what goes on their minds and what do they expect? These questions need to be answered and so can an unbiased opinion be generated. Moreover, there is not enough text that is put forward in the article. No empirical evidence, no factual figures, no research work or psychological study has been done on the zombies.
People are unconscious of businesses that brain wash with propaganda to exploit consumers into buying merchandise (Bishop 2010: 248). Thus on a purely metonymical level, the zombies represent the existing horrors of a society brainwashed by the capitalistic need to
Black Mirror is a presently airing television show that uses many devices as well as heavy social satire (especially in episode one of season three, “Nosedive”) to bring attention to the fact that heavy reliance on social media and technology could backfire immensely on humanity.
