Romeo Montague, from Romeo and Juliet is the picture perfect tragic hero. Romeo portrays all of Aristotle’s traits of a tragic hero. Hamartia and hubris played a part in Romeo’s destruction. Romeo’s death was far from deserved. Throughout the play, Romeo’s actions and fate help build the platform of a tragic hero. Romeo’s hamartia is his inability to think. He constantly makes rash, unthoughtful decisions. It all begins with Rosaline. Rosaline and Romeo’s feelings are far from mutual. Romeo is in love, but she is not. Romeo is then depressed because of Rosaline’s lack of feelings. Romeo declares that his heart belongs somewhere else. “If I profane with my unworthiest hand, this holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:My lips, two blushing …show more content…
He believed he could create his own fairytale, and fate could step back. This was far from reality. When Romeo pushed at fate, fate gave an even harder push. When Romeo kills Tybalt he expresses one of fate’s pushes by saying, “Oh, I am fortune’s fool!”(3.1.98) Fate dooms the couple from the very start. They are just too blinded by their infatuation to see it. “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life, Whose misadventured piteous overthrows, doth with their death bury their parents' strife. The fearful passage of their death-marked love.” (Prologue. 5-8) The lovers’ death was written before their lives together began. Romeo finally caught on when he received news of Juliet’s supposed death. “Is it e'en so? Then I defy you, stars!” (5.1.24) Romeo believes he is outwitting fate by killing himself. Little does he know that this was fate’s plan all along. Romeo’s pride is too precious for him to be wrong. This is another factor that helped with his …show more content…
It begins with the battle between Tybalt and Mercutio. Romeo had three general choices. He could choose peace, Juliet, or his family. Romeo starts to choose peace, but Mercutio is then injured by Tybalt. Romeo tries to defend Mercutio, and he chooses his family also. Both Mercutio and Tybalt are killed. Romeo’s choice has many repercussions. “Romeo can, though heaven cannot. O Romeo, Romeo! Who ever would have thought it? Romeo!”(3.2.42-44) Juliet’s nurse, who helped with many of the pair’s sneaking around, turns her back on Romeo. The nurse urges Juliet to marry Paris. Juliet then loses her only supporter of her relationship with Romeo. She is forced to find support elsewhere. Friar Lawrence then gives Juliet his plan for her fake death. “Take thou this vial, being then in bed, and this distillèd liquor drink thou off, when presently through all thy veins shall run A cold and drowsy humor, for no pulse…”(4.1.96-99) A part of the plan is not completed though. Romeo never receives word from Friar John, and Balthasar gives him the news. “Then she is well, and nothing can be ill. Her body sleeps in Capulets' monument, and her immortal part with angels lives. I saw her laid low in her kindred’s vault…”(5.1.17-20) Romeo rushes to the Capulets’ tomb where he kills himself. Juliet wakes up only minutes later, and she finds her dear Romeo dead. She then kills herself with a dagger. Fate has done it’s
This plan goes horribly wrong and results in the death of both Romeo and his love, Juliet. If Tybalt had not insisted on fighting with Mercutio and Romeo, it would have saved Mercutio’s and his own life and ultimately everyone
As Mercutio and Tybalt fight, Romeo intervenes and in doing so, Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s arm. After the death of Mercutio, Romeo is disheartened by his death and avenges his friend by murdering Tybalt.
“Guy Montag is in his home and reading Romeo Juliet and he is in the part that Romeo is committing suicide because of the death of Juliet” Montag: O Romeo stop She is alive! I should do something to stop Romeo. What, that should I do? Oh, of course I can get into time machine, which is in the fire center!
Topic - Romeo and Juliet Probably the most famous love story of all time, is William Shakespheres Romeo and Juliet. In this love tragedy Romeo and Juliet are tragic victims of bad timing miscommunication and mistakes. Since Romeo did not tell his closest friends Mercutio and Benvolio that he had married Juliet, this led to the many deaths of the people close to Romeo and Juliet. The reason why Romeo was refusing to fight Tybalt was because since Romeo had married Juliet, Tybalt had become a family member of his. But since Romeo did not tell Mercutio and Benvolio exactly why he did not want to fight Tybalt, Mercutio was convinced that Romeo was scared to fight him, so Mercutio took it upon himself to fight Tybalt.
Impulsiveness can overtake if not controlled. Romeo and Juliet is a play written by the bard, William Shakespeare. Romeo is one of the main characters in Romeo and Juliet. One of Romeo’s biggest downfalls involves his emotions and how impulsive Romeo truly is. One main example is when Romeo and Juliet first met.
Lastly, Romeo sees Juliet and he thought she was dead but she wasn’t, so he drank a poison vial and died. He did that so they could be together forever. “Then i defy you, stars” (5.1.24). After learning of Juliet’s death, he declares himself openly opposed to the destiny that so grieves him. Sadly, in “defying” fate he actually brings it about.
Death is the last thing on a parent’s mind about their children. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a story about two young lovers who kill themselves in order to be with each other through life and death. Although the two lovers killed themselves for love, who exactly encouraged their deaths? There are a few suspects for such a crime, such as the parents/families themselves, Romeo's father structure, Friar Lawrence, or maybe even Juliet. Whoever it is there is yet another suspect that stands out much more and that is Fate.
The impulse decisions made by Romeo and Juliet and the actions displayed for their “love” are emotionally charged and are based on initial feelings, therefore, their love is not true. Romeo and Juliet both have affection for each other, but it is truly only from the physical appearances they base their love on. When Romeo sees Juliet for the first time at the Capulet party, the first thought he had was that he loved her. True love isn’t based on just looks and looks were the only thing that Romeo could see at that point. When Romeo asked Friar Lawrence to marry him and Juliet, Friar says “Young men’s love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes,” (Act 2, Scene 3).
Romeo is illogical and lets his anger take control of him to make bad
She 's invulnerable to loving looks. She wouldn 't sell herself ,not even for the kind of money that would tempt a saint. Oh, she is rich in beauty and fertility will cease. Here Romeo has a conversation with Benvolio about his love “Rosaline”
These lines show that Romeo obviously is too invested in his emotions
Impulsiveness. As defined by Webster’s Dictionary, to be impulsive is to act or do something without forethought. In our society today, we see reckless teenagers and ignorant adults being impulsive, causing their lives to fall apart by making the wrong decisions. In the play Romeo and Juliet, we see how our main character, Romeo, has the tragic flaw of impulsiveness and ultimately causes the final tragedy of the play. His decisions guide him down a heedless path and we see how it affects the other characters in the book as well.
Hearing of her son’s exile, Lady Montague is tremendously struck with grief and dies of a heart attack, which is mentioned later on, as his happened offstage. At the end of the play, Juliet fakes her own death, to avoid marrying Paris and to be able to run away with Romeo, according to Friar Lawrence’s plan. However, Romeo was not properly informed of this scheme, so he thought Juliet had really perished. When Paris himself wanted to say his last goodbyes to Juliet, he found a grief-stricken Romeo, who murders Paris after a short duel. After this encounter, believing he would never see his love of his live again, Romeo takes a bottle of poison, killing him on Juliet’s apparent deathbed.
This shows that Romeo is confused about what he thinks of love. In the article, “What is love? Five theories on the greatest emotion of all” Julian Baggini speaks of how love can be misguided like in Romeo 's situation. He only loves Rosaline for her appearance. Baggini further states, “Without the passion, it is mere dedication.
Out of a library once I read “ There are people who want a relationship like Romeo and Juliet’s without knowing that lasted three days and caused six deads!” This sarcastic but indeed real sentence has nothing to do with the idea of overwhelming, powerful, idyllic and especially ideal love that we are all used to associate to Romeo and Juliet. What does ideal actually means? Ideal : 1.
