Juliet is convincing herself to not cry any tears of sadness but to cry tears of joy because Romeo is alive. She goes about justifying this through realizing that Tybalt wanted to kill Romeo. When Romeo secretly attends the party, he acts irresponsibly, putting himself into a dangerous situation with his enemies, the Capulets. Juliet notices how dangerous of a feat this is by asking the nurse for his name, when given the answer Juliet says “ My only love, sprung from my only hate! In “Romeo and Juliet” a play written by William Shakespeare the characters show constant actions of impulsiveness throughout the story. Romeo and Juliet constantly fight for their hopeless love in the story and this creates many problems in the story causing the characters to lose the lives of their loved ones and themselves. These quick, rapid decisions don’t go well for them and affect them in many ways. In the beginning of the story, Romeo goes to the Capulet party in hopes to see his first love known as Rosaline but he looks deeper into the crowd and he falls in love with Juliet in first sight.

In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo’s love and loyalty for Juliet is proven, but his impulsive and foolish acts later lead to the tragic death of both himself and his one true love. Romeo shows his loyalty for Juliet by never wanting to spend a moment without her, but it’s that loyalty, that turns into impulsiveness. Because he never wants to be without Juliet, Romeo makes many decision that are viewed as foolish. He makes his choices depending on Juliet and not himself.

At last but not least, the author employs negative diction, such as: “vexed” (1.1.199), “madness” (1.1.200), and “gall” (1.1.201). “Vexed” denotes annoyed, and “madness” denotes insanity. Since Romeo is referring to love in such a negative way, this shows that Romeo is pessimistic about love. In this passage, the metaphors demonstrate that love is short-lasting, depressing, and conflicting. Due to the metaphor and negative diction in this passage, the author characterizes Romeo as a person who is conflicted and frustrated by love.

In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, he tells the story of two people who fall in love, Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet. Their families have been feuding for as long as they can remember, making their love for one another very dangerous. The two go to extreme lengths to be with each other, but this eventually results in both of them losing their lives. Throughout this story, Shakespeare conveys through his use of syntax and diction with wrathful tone that hatred can make people act irrationally loyal, and this hatred can cloud one’s morals. In the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet are star-crossed lovers whose love for each other shows, in the way, they are willing to die for each other, the way they forgive each other, and the way they are willing to leave their families for each other.

It is so relatable till date because people fall in love now as Romeo and Juliet did, families fight, as the Montagues and Capulets did. We can relate to each character in some. Which is what makes this play so compelling and lets it live, five hundred years later. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic tale of two lovers, separated by an epic feud of their two houses (Romeo a Montague and Juliet a Capulet.)
