In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo’s love and loyalty for Juliet is proven, but his impulsive and foolish acts later lead to the tragic death of both himself and his one true love. Romeo shows his loyalty for Juliet by never wanting to spend a moment without her, but it’s that loyalty, that turns into impulsiveness. Because he never wants to be without Juliet, Romeo makes many decision that are viewed as foolish. He makes his choices depending on Juliet and not himself. He tends to forget that his actions do have consequences, and his consequences not only hurt himself, but the others around him. Romeo makes many of his important decisions very quickly. He doesn’t take time to think about his actions, he just does them and deals with the consequences later, and that is what makes Romeo impulsive. When Romeo met with Tybalt, he had no intention of hurting him. After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo immediately runs out and kills Tybalt. Romeo didn’t think about how it could affect him, or Juliet. When Romeo finds out Juliet is a Capulet, he is extremely suprised. Although Romeo is shocked to learn that, he still goes to see her. He knows that Juliet is someone he is suppose to hate, yet he goes to see her because he believes she is the one for him. Another way Romeo proves his loyalty is when he overhears Juliet talking to herself. Juliet says how she wishes Romeo could change his name so he wouldnt be an enemy anymore. In response he says, “I’ll take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I’ll be new baptized; Henceforth I never will be Romeo (2.2.52-54). Romeo loves Juliet so much, that he is willing to change his name just to be with her.
