To me, this comes in the form of attending APU’s Educational and Clinical Counseling program and pursuing a career that allows me to demonstrate my ability in helping others achieve their goals. The rigorous design of this program will be a challenge to my academic grit and a testament to the skills I developed during my three years as a UCR undergraduate. What is your intended major? My intended major is Environmental Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara. While thinking back to when my interest in the subject was sparked, all I could think about was growing up in Oregon, where my dad and I lived on a two-acre piece of property in a very small town outside of Portland.

In my time working in the nursing home setting, I have spent a great deal of time completing these assessments and focusing on the areas which a person needs assistance.

Having the opportunity to accomplish what I have envisioned and turn it into reality has made me strive to further my education and utilize Capella University as a stepping stone to success. When I envision my purpose in psychology, I see myself as life-long learner,unbiased, and a strong foundation to recognize and respect each individual strengths and differences. A key concentration of Capella's course in the field of psychology is to explore and transform one’s passion and interest in the field (Capella, 2018). My Ideal Self Who/what do you want to achieve/have, why? In the shorter term (3 years), I want to graduate from HELP University’s Degree of Psychology in first-class honours. I understand claims stating such academic achievement is merely a graduation certificate, without guarantee of work opportunities. However, my aim is not motivated towards work opportunities or anything materialistic; I just want to appreciate and value every learning opportunity.

Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” (Introduction to Psychology, 2015). Psychology provides an overview of biology and behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, language, motivation, emotion, abnormal psychology, and therapy (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 1). Because psychology allows for a better understanding of how the mind and body work, this knowledge can be beneficial for any field of study or career. The theoretical and practical understanding of the basics of psychology can help with decision-making, critical thinking, stress management, time management, better understanding of others, improving communication, and even achieving goals and objectives, all components that allow someone to be more successful throughout their life. Throughout this course I hope to gain a greater understanding of historical and theoretical perspectives of human behavior and development (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 2).
