My Ideal Self Essay

When I think about attending the University of Florida (UF), I automatically think about the amazing opportunities I will have to perform research within Psychology. I do not want my Psychology degree to be based off of only the courses I take, but on the research and interactions that I will make within the Psychology community at UF. I view Psychology as not just studying the mind and behavior of a person, but being able to make connections with one another in a positive way. Psychology is taking the smallest idea and being able to turn it into something that helps another person. During my time at UF, I want to be able to do extensive research on how to help people who suffer from mentally ill diseases such as Huntington’s, research ways

When telling people that you are a psychology major, they always come back with the statement, “What can you do with that?”. Many individuals do not know how broad of a range the activities that involve psychology are. Psychology gives you the ability to take a career path and make it your own. It involves many different job titles at many different locations. Some of the paths include working in research, education, consoling, law, or service providing while working in locations such as government agencies, schools, businesses, hospitals, mental health clinics, and much more.

What exactly is psychology? While it may seem like a very basic question, it is one of the most common questions asked by students new to the study of psychology. During your first lecture of an introductory psychology class, your instructor might spend some time going around the room asking students to explain what they think psychology involves. During my first psychology class, one girl made a dramatic point of waving her fingers over another student's head and pretending to read his thoughts. Unfortunately, such misconceptions about psychology abound and part of the confusion stems from stereotyped portrayals of psychologists in popular media as well as the diverse careers paths of those holding psychology degrees.

Introduction: In 2011, famous American psychologist, Marsha Linehan, removed herself from solitude and spoke out about her struggle with a mental illness, expressing feelings of “being in hell” and memories of being in an institute of living at age seventeen. Although psychologists and mental health experts seem to be one of the strongest assets to society in a mental aspect, they tend to struggle with mental illness more than the general population. Linehan 's confession, was a shock to many, and it should come as a surprise that she is one of many mental health professionals that lives with a mental illness. Although psychologists struggle with mental health issues more than the general population, it may be helpful to their profession.

Especially psychologist that deal with mental and behavioral health such as Clinical psychologists. Dealing with such, there are opportunities to witness different cases that cause some questioning on how it can be fixed. Whether to help their own client or have an effect on the world, studies are conducted to prove and cure. With my dreams to work in the psychology field, I will have to be aware that the possibility of forming an experiment that can result in being controversial is likely. While enjoying helping people mentally and emotionally, I do not want to harm them in any way, especially when my experiment is set out to prove a major problem within society.

The freedom to walk, the ability to run, the excitement to jump. All of these tasks are ones that come easily to many people, but come as a great challenge to me. Ever since I was an infant, I have held a special interest in music. This love for music has strengthened over the years; and in sixth grade, it became plain to me that I would be a musician. However, I have always held somewhat of an affinity for writing. I am the second child of two, but my sister is twenty-five years older than I, and I was raised as an only child would be. Despite this, I never felt lonely, as my father worked at home

To be truthful, my fascination in psychology had been somewhat sporadic; appearing in my earlier childhood years then getting deflected in my earlier middle school years due to the rigmarole over my grandma’s operations, then again reemerging in my high school years after my grandma’s death. My grandma’s death was the trigger for my reemerged love for psychology. Watching my mom and my beloved aunts uncle’s heartache, yet being helpless to help them soothe their pain, it made me feel very miserable and inadequate. I kept asking myself what I could do for them?

However, while receiving an education that incorporates the many schools of thought; I have been able to find my passion. As an individual who has a family history of mental disorders, I have become increasingly interested in the field of abnormal psychology. I wish to continue my education by studying psychopathology and further my knowledge of anxiety, depression, as well as other mental and emotional disorders. While I now have a better understanding of what I intend to study this was not always the

Psychology plays a huge role in changing society and how individuals look at life. I believe this career path can make an impact on lives that are struggling daily, such as I did. With a psychologist 's help, I was able to cope with the negative aspects in my day, and be optimistic towards life, along with providing advice for others who may also be struggling. My ambition is to perform life defining acts with my words and advice, and as a psychologist, I believe this is possible through my ability to listen and be empathetic towards others. James Frey once stated, “A miracle is changing someone’s life.

It's not a perfect fit for my personality, I might change my mind or something my happen along the years, but it is something I find extremely important and interesting. Some of the things I will need to become a psychologist I will still need to work on, such as reading more and becoming more involved in people's lives, but I believe that with some effort I can be a good professional one day. Another interest that relates to psychology is reading a lot and being interested in learning new things. This is something I’ve always liked, especially when it comes to subjects I care about. I’m hoping that doing extensive reading and research I can learn more about what a psychologist does exactly, how it helps people and how to be effective doing

Having a degree in Psychology is beneficial because it is connected to a lot of career opportunities. It means that you have different options at hand. Studying Psychology is not just about improving one’s self but it can be a stepping stone as well to a great future. This degree means having a career of your choosing while enjoying what you are doing. By taking Psychology, you can learn how to understand other people and their behavior, the chance to do research and studies that can help humanity in the future and having a chance of developing a productive and working mind.

The ability to place my wider theoretical learning in a practical environment, will allow me develop to the type of study expected at higher education. Psychology has allowed me to appreciate not only how people can be understood and aided through a biological sense, but also from a wider mental and societal approach. Throughout my A Levels, in particular Sociology, meeting deadlines was crucial; this will help me further as a radiographer as it has enabled me to become an organised, motivated and independent individual. These organisation skills will aid me in working as part of a team under pressure in order to become a diagnostic radiographer. As part of my hobbies I enjoy spending my free time travelling and baking.

My Self-Concept My self-concept includes a number of different adjectives and roles, these include both good and bad things. The adjectives I use to describe myself are as follows: kind, loyal, selfish, hard working, apathetic, practical, honest, occasionally rude, and procrastinator. As for the roles that I fill, I am a son, a brother, a friend, a student, the oldest son, and a teacher. Self-concept is a product of many things, it is not just simply what a person is.

His progress in treating that one child helped pave the way for the future of clinical psychology. NEED OF A PSYCHOLOGIST The need for a psychologist is continually growing. Becoming a licensed psychologist involves years of education and professional training in the field. There is little doubt that the educational path of an aspiring psychologist will be challenging both personally and academically, but the career outcome is worth the effort.
