I have had plenty of key events in my life. One of the most important was when I moved from India to Canada. As my dad earned a job in Canada our whole family needed move to India .The people and culture were so unique that I learned a lot about it. Experiencing the different society of people made me realize how diverse Canada is. Realizing the new country where I will spend the rest of my life made me feel overwhelmed. Moving to the opposite side of the world changed the way I viewed the world. When my mother got a call from my dad, I could tell she was both excited and worried. He told my mom that we are all moving to Canada as he got a wonderful job there. First my mom was excited as it was her first time outside of India and she was also …show more content…
I studied a bit about Canada and knew that they have a maple leaf on their flag and even thought that is the only type of trees they would have there. When I finally reached to my destination in Calgary I was surprised by the amount of snow and how the weather was as I have never seen the snow or been in this much cold. It blew my mind that a country can be even colder than my freezer back home. I felt as I was in a totally different planet, even the trees were totally different then what I expected. The shape of the trees and the snow surrounding them made me feel as it was already …show more content…
As the months passed in elementary school I realized the clothes and food that my friends were eating was much different than mine. People made fun of the smell that came out of my food and I felt embarrassed to eat it with my friends. When I was back in India my friends would complement the food I brought but in Canada is the right opposite. My attitude towards my own food became negative and told my mother not to pack my lunch as I “did not feel hungry in school” . I felt as if what I grew up believing was not how the whole world lived. Seeing how different people eat and live helped open my mind to new
Being a first-generation Canadian and when Canada is as diverse as it is, I never got the opportunity to truly connect with my own religion. I realized early on that having that knowledge of diversity provides a competitive advantage in the business environment, as communication and connections are easily built. To accomplish this, I decided to join the International Languages Program in grade 6; however, even with the four years I spent in the program, I never truly built the connection that I had so desired. It was not until grade 12 when I had that opportunity, as David Suzuki Secondary School (D.S.S.S.) introduced its first ever Sikh Student Association (S.S.A.), a collection of numerous Sikhs throughout D.S.S.S. Upon joining this club,
A life changing event that occurred was when I moved from West Virginia to Arizona. Which was a tremendous trip which took about two thousand miles,by driving. On our way to the desert my family and I stopped at campgrounds, resorts was memorable. It provided me with a new aspect of how truly large the world is. While stopping at campgrounds along the road to Arizona I was able to admire the scenes, explore the town metaphorically speaking.
Natashia Apangchan Canadian Identity As an immigrant, and of the 7 years that I’ve stayed here in Canada, I’ve come to know some of the Canadian identity. I have lots on mind but the things that stand out the most is that Canadians are so patriotic and generous, and diverse. To me, I see the Canadians as patriotic because their love for their country is very strong. I have seen the pride in their eyes when they say that they are Canadian.
I learned how to be a great swimmer, I learned some phrases in German and Italian, and I also grew relationships with my long distance family members. It may not have seemed apparent to me the moment it happened, but my first two hours in a different country played the biggest affect on me as a person. A vacation that was intended to be fun for me ended up being so much more than that, this vacation opened my eyes to all of the other people, places, and things in this world. In two hours that could go by as the seemingly most unimportant time of the trip, I was able to mature and flourish more than I ever have in my
From my grandfather moving from one city to another when he was still a teenager to support himself, and eventually his family; fighting to achieve his dreams, dreams that were once unimaginable. To my mother taking my sisters and me many miles away from everything we knew, our country and our comfort
" Coming of age... I guess that would have to be coming to the United States," she remarks, looking deep in thought. "It was an absolute life changer. I had to adjust to a community with completely different life values.
Coming to America with my parents when I was about 11 years old was a new adventure for me. There were a lot of changes that needed to be made and experiencing new things. I would have to make some adjustment and getting used to the American culture and learning the language they speak. My parents had made a big sacrifice coming to America. Living their home country just so my siblings and I could get a better education and better life.
The first eight years of my life, I spent in India where I was born. Growing up I was constantly reminded by my parents that I needed to make them proud by getting a good job and living a good lifestyle. They told me this because they did not want to see me live a hard life like they did. When I was nine years old, I moved from India to the United States of America. The reason why I moved to America was not because I was living a bad life in India, it was so that I could have a better education and more opportunities in life.
Immigration Report Canada is a very diverse country. Meaning there is are people from all over the world. Immigration is a huge part of Canada, and Canada wouldn’t be the same without it. There are a lot of people who immigrate to Canada from all over the world for many different reasons. A lot of the people who are here now, were not originally from Canada.
In 2013 my parents told me we were moving to United States at first I didn't want to come, I had my life already done there I have many friends all my family living near I could go and visit them when I wanted, then I start realizing that it would be a good idea to get to know a different country and other people. When I got here my thoughts were that it was going to be so difficult to get used to a new place, but actually it wasn’t. I went to many parts of the country my favorite was Las Vegas everything was beautiful there. I got to visit my family and go to other states that is one of the things I will never regret for coming to a new country. One of the things that was most difficult for me was to get used to the food it tastes different specially tortillas, cheese, corn, beans and ham but also here the food tastes really good, food that I had never tasted where I live before.
As I ponder over my life, each memory seems identical to the other, and I find myself drifting through a reality of similar events that generate the same memories and emotions. Looking back further into my childhood includes memories of my homeland. I remember entering a new world at the age of five, where all of my later memories would be formed. This was when my family moved to the United States from Peru, my native country in the South. The complete change in culture and values truly impacted me when I first moved to Florida, and I reflect over the significant effect it has had on my character during the last thirteen years of my life.
Moving to a new country can be difficult sometimes. Leaving all my relatives and friends back home was the saddest thing for me. My mother told me that we were moving to a new country. At first, I thought my mother was joking about it. but little did I know that she was telling the truth.
This changed my life because on one hand it reminded me of how easily life can be taken away, but on the other hand it showed me how true miracles work. Another one was this summer when I traveled to Europe for three weeks. It was the most incredible experience! It opened my eyes to new cultures and new ways of thinking. My most recent event would definitely be college.
Moving is always hard. It is harder if you are moving from your birthplace to a culturally different country after spending most of your teenage years. I moved from Bangladesh to New York about a year and a half ago and let me tell you, it was not easy. I had to leave the place I grew up in, my friends and relatives and start a new life here in America. Probably the only good part was that at least I was with my family throughout this hardship.
In one person’s life, there can be many changes. Some of them are small and do not have a very big effect on your life. However, other events are very important and can completely change a person’s life, such as moving to a new country, joining the military, getting married, or buying a house. Two of the events that have changed my life the most was moving to the United States and the joining the military. When I first arrived in the United States, I was only twelve years old.
