Kameron Anderson/7 English 10 Honors 28 February 2023 The Honor of Brutus Honor, glory, notability, and righteousness; these are all things people strive to have. But some only care for themselves or people close to them, not everyone as a whole. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, the ruler of Rome at the time, Julius Caesar rose to power in 44 B.C. He was going to be crowned king of Rome; however, a group of conspirators led by Marcus Brutus killed Caesar and attempted to rule over Rome. Brutus decided to join the Conspirators because of his loyalty to his country and because of the importance of honor to his temperament. But Caesars’ loyal friend Marc Antony turned the Roman people against the Conspirators and ended …show more content…
Antony stayed loyal to Caesar which is why he attained revenge on the conspirators. Regardless of this idea, Brutus is the most honorable character in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar because even Antony himself said that Brutus was the most noble Roman and only joined the conspirators for the good of the people. After the battle against the conspirators, Antony and Octavius found Brutus’ body, Antony exclaimed that Brutus “was the noblest Roman of them all”; Antony also said that Brutus had honorable intentions,“thought and common good to all” (Shakespeare.V.v.68-72). Antony believes that Brutus was the only conspirator that had no envy towards Caesar. He just wanted what was best for Rome and its people. Even though Antony was loyal to Caesar, he only cared about getting revenge, not what was best for the people. However, Brutus did what he did for the public good. Brutus’ motives have never been greedy or filled with jealousy. He just acted on what he felt was best for the people even if he had to betray his friend in the process. Overall, some might express that Antony is the most honorable character because of his loyalty to Caesar; however, Brutus is the most honorable in the play because Antony himself said that Brutus was the most noble Roman and only joined the conspirators for the good of the
As well as a great friend of Caesars, which meant he could also trust him. Moreover, Brutus felt like the only way to make sure Rome was safe was to kill Caesar. He felt that for the freedom and wealth of the people, it was the most logical and ethical thing to do. In addition, which led to him being the leader of the conspirators and taking over. Brutus had known the people of Rome admired him, they also loved him.
While some may still disagree, viewing his actions as immoral or dishonorable, I believe that Brutus’s intentions truly were noble and that his righteousness is indisputable. Brutus loved Caesar greatly, but his love for Rome simply exceeded that love and inevitably led to his afflictive decision. He acted purely out of his devotion to Rome and eventually even sacrificed his own life for the country he loved and valued so greatly. Brutus’s sacrifices should not be disregarded, and instead the courage and morality he displayed should be honored and
As stated in the text, “Yet, I see thy honorable mettle may be wrought from that it is disposed”, as was said by Cassius towards Brutus. He feared that Caesar’s ambition would hinder the countries fate. If Brutus admits that Caesar was good for the people then wouldn’t that mean he was good for Rome too? He had admitted to the stabbing of Julius Caesar so that means he has no shame, correct? Yes, Antony claims Brutus to be an “honorable man” but in reality he believes no such thing.
Brutus was an honorable, kind, and noble friend to Julius Caesar. But Brutus was also part of Caesar’s death. Brutus was a man of Rome and was loved by everyone in Rome. Everything he did was for the good of Rome. But due to his lower intellect, he fell for Cassius' sinister plan to kill Caesar.
He also always spoke with honesty, and was a truthful person. The last reason is because he loved Rome, and all of his decisions were based on his love for Rome. Brutus was truly a noble man, and although he made some wrong decisions, he tried his hardest to do what was best for the city that he loved more than himself. Throughout the book, Brutus tried to remain
Brutus in julius caesar was truly an honorable man in my opinion because, all he really wanted was the best for Rome;in other words Brutus is willing to do whatever it takes even if it means sacrificing others close to him to strengthen Rome. Also Brutus has the least amount of blame for the murder; he felt the most guilt about caesar 's death because he is visited by his ghost. Most characters in the play don 't act honorable and they only want Caesars death to benefit themselves. Like Brutus, my Grandfather is honorable;he was an army
Brutus cares more about his country than he does his best friends life. Caesar was Brutus’s best friend and he recognized that his best friend was becoming power hungry and was too ambitious. Only a true tragic hero of Shakespearian era play could be able to recognize the fact that one of the people they love the most has become too ambitious and the only way to stop him is by putting him to death for the good of his country. Brutus is an honorable man.
Brutus chooses to be honorable in the eyes of the plebeians and makes a decision for the best of Rome. Brutus has proven multiple times that he has control over the people of Rome because of his actions in being trustworthy and the most honorable and this is why Brutus would be an even better ruler than Caesar could
The least honorable character of Julius Caesar is Decius because he lies to people oftentimes. According to the text, Decius tells Caesar that his wife’s nightmares mean nothing at all and that Caesar should still show up to the Senate. This is very unhonorable, as one should always tell the truth. Based on the text, Decius is the type to lie often. The evidence is showing that the more honorable characters never lie as much as Decius.
Brutus believed that his friend Caesar had a negative impact on Rome and decided he needed to take over and kill Caesar. Brutus was determined to do this to help Rome, to save it from what Caesar was gonna do. Adding to it he knew if Caesar got the crown he would never be able to protect Rome. Despite Brutus being a well intentioned patriot, Brutus is ultimately responsible for the death of Caesar. Even though Caesar was his friend, Brutus always showed loyalty towards Rome.
The Consequences of Honor Being an honorable person requires one to follow a code of ethics for the greater good, even at the cost of his own life. If one breaks his code of ethics, he believes that living with the shame of breaking it for the rest of his life would be a “fate worse than death”. These selfless individuals care more about the needs of others than their own personal desires. However, there are people who take advantage of one’s honorable nature and use it for their own gain. This concern of acting honorably is shown in Brutus, the main character in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.
The least honorable character of Julius Caesar is Brutus. The main reason Brutus is dishonorable is because he betrayed his friend Caesar. Brutus shouldn’t have made Caesar think they were friends because in the end they weren’t true friends. If Brutus wanted to be seen as an honorable friend he should have sat down and talked to him about what he was doing. Instead of doing this, Brutus killed Caesar and helped the conspirators.
Antony did not join the conspiracy against Caesar because he took into account the facts that showed that Caesar had the good of the people at heart (133-135). The conspirators killed Caesar out of fear that his ambition would not be good for Rome. Caesar’s ambition had not negatively affected Rome yet, so Antony stuck by Caesar. Antony was honorable enough to not turn against an innocent man when there was no current evidence that it was necessary. Antony thought about the facts and his own experience of Caesar, and he went by this instead of acting based on only the fear of the future.
Honor in the world gives people a reason to fight for the things that they believe in. Throughout The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Brutus has had to make many tough decisions that display the great honor within him. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare's, it is made very obvious that Brutus is an honorable man. Brutus preserves his honor by taking care of Rome’s issues with good intentions and without going too far.
In Julius Caesar, Mark Antony articulates, “This was the noblest Roman of them all.” Out of all of the conspirators who were deemed villainous solely Brutus believed he killed Caesar for everyone’s honor. It was Brutus’s probity that granted him the recognition of a hero. Octavius proclaims, “According to
