In the beginning years after America had finally claimed their independence from Britain, it began the long tremendous journey of American Ingenuity. From this there was the production of many essential inventions to society, that would leave an impact on the world for the rest of time. Some inventions that produced this impact was the telegraph, airplanes and the power looms. One of the most notable inventors of this time period was Eli Whitney who created three inventions that left a tremendous influence on the agriculture and American progress.
Eli Whitney was originally born in Westborough, Massachusetts a few years before America gained their independence. He grew up as a farmer, but often spent time in his father's workshop working on

The cotton would go into the top of the machine and with an individual turning the handle it would go through a series of wired teeth that combed out the seeds. After the seeds are taken out, the cotton would be pulled out of the machine. Comparative to the one pound of cotton a …show more content…
This invention was called interchangeable parts. Eli Whitney began to produce interchangeable parts in 1798 which made way for a collection of inventions for the 19th century. This process began while congress set up a plan to go to war against France, with this they required many more weapons to fight. Whitney took this opportunity to make the fortune that he failed to gain in his last invention. The congress asked Whitney to make ten thousand muskets within two years, which was an extremely short time period for inventions. Instead of creating the weapons, Whitney created a series of interchangeable parts with the money he was given. Until this point in time all weapons were made from hand from stock to barrel and no part of one gun could fit another. When he was brought before President John Adams, he created muskets in front of them with random parts. The President was impressed by this and Whitney received a tremendous amount of credit and fortune, because of his products. However, it was later concluded that Whitney's presentation of interchangeable parts was a scam. He did not pick the products up at random instead he had markings on each part and assembled them that way. Even with this knowledge, Whitney is still given credit for this
Benjamin Franklin was a very important man in the Enlightenment period due to his vast knowledge of science and politics. The American Enlightenment provided the structure for the colonists of America to evolve into a unique American character by 1763 through the circulation of reading materials, the scientific discoveries that lead to unique inventions, the development of a different government, and the tolerance for many religions. This evolution can be assessed by the life of Benjamin Franklin, a key proponent of the Enlightenment. The 18th century was when Britain and its colonies grew closer because of the circulation in letters, newspapers, and books.
Eli Whitney and Cyrus McCormick are two of the most impressive early inventors in United States history. Both inventors had huge impacts on the agricultural field with their respective inventions. Whitney’s cotton gin, which was created in 1793, revolutionized the plantation of the South. Similarly, McCormick’s reaper had the same effect on the North. The reaper had much of the same effect on wheat that the gin had on cotton, allowing wheat field to be picked in a fraction of the time after its use became widespread years after its creation for a neighboring farm in 1831.
As well as writing the Declaration of Independence and serving as our president of the U.S., Thomas Jefferson invented and improved many things that we now use that will help us and advance technology we have today. Many of Jefferson’s inventions are hard to determine whether he was the first one to invent it or not because he never patented his work. One of his inventions is a mechanical pedometer. A pedometer is a tracker used to count your steps in order to promote and motivate you to exercise more.
In 1860, the Henry was designed by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860. It was produced throughout 1860 to 1866 in the United States by the New Haven Arms Company. The Union got small quantities of this rifle in the Civil War, it had greater firepower than the service rifle. It took Benjamin Tyler Henry 3 years to design this rifle. The production of these rifles were very limited, about 150 to 200 a month until the middle of 1864.
During the Civil War, there were a lot of important and significant battles fought and there were also many inventions made. One battle during the Civil War fits both categories. This battle is the Battle of the Merrimac vs. the Monitor, also known as the Battle of Hampton Roads. Both of these ships had very different and complex backgrounds and very different inventors. These ships may not have been as useful and helpful during the Civil War itself, but they had a major impact in the future.
Benjamin Franklin is widely considered “the First American.” He was an author, printer, politician, scientist, inventor, and diplomat. As a scientist, he played a large role in the American Enlightenment, and his work and accomplishments directly affected the formation of American society. Like many other Americans
How did the Market Revolution change America? When the Market Revolution came around this was a big thing for America. This helped America in a lot of different ways. This was one of the greatest things that was gone ever happen in America. The Market Revolution really changed America.
Production was relatively slow, as most factories employed skilled workers whom it took days or even weeks to make a single item, such as a shoe. In 1798, this changed forever. Eli Whitney helps develop the idea of interchangeable parts. This is where identical parts that could be swapped for each other were placed in machines. This almost completely replaced the practice of custom-making each part and product, and repairs were much easier.
The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney in 1793. Versions of a cotton gin have existed since the first century in which single rollers were used to try to separate the seed from the cotton. Over time, a double roller system was invented. Finally, in 1793, the version invented by Whitney actually used teeth-like projections to remove the seed from the cotton. A belt and pulley system then separated the lint from the seeds.
Well, two famous inventions, the lightning rod and the stove, made a very big impact on society. For example, the lightning rod and stove helped society by protecting homes, providing warmth, and creating a place to cook. These inventions must have made a huge impact on society considering there was nothing invented close to these things back then. One of the many reasons why the lightning rod and the stove are two of Franklin's most helpful inventions to society, is because they saved lifes. For example, in Benjamin Franklin's time, “Lightning striking one’s home could have disastrous consequences, especially since houses were generally made out of wood.”
The Impact of Edgar Allan Poe on American Culture Edgar Allan Poe once said, “Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.” Edgar Allan Poe is among many authors as one of the most influential writers of all time. Edgar Allan Poe had a unique writing style that no one else did. He did impact many people and still impacts many to this day.
James Mercer Langston Hughes was the first African American to achieve national prominence, and the figure of such stature in the black community. His influence and ideas were inescapable, as he saw himself as a poet for an entire nation. Hughes role model, Walt Whitman helped to give him the ideas of the optimistic vision of America and how to achieve and accomplish some of the things he did in his life. Langston Hughes inspired many people and expressed the African American spirt and soul in his works.
Automobiles. Telephones. Lightbulbs. These were some of the major technological innovations created during 1865 to 1920. These creations impacted many Americans, even to this day.
Economic Change in America Change is relevant within every time period, however, very substantial changes took place in the Americas following the War of 1812. Future success of the American society was to be dictated by the support the federal government supplied to domestic manufacturing and infrastructure to make drastic improvements economically. The imposition of high tariffs, advancements in transportation and the development of the cotton gin are among the most important changes made in the United States during this time.
this shows that most of the common day materials and electronics can be traced back to the time when Thomas Edison was inventing when he was just 16. Edison invented the automatic reaper. This allowed for people to
