The Broken Column Frida Kahlo Analysis

In the memoir’’ How to write a memoir’’, written by William Zinsser, Zinsser goes into specific detail for beginner memoir writers on how do you write a memoir. He encourages each of them to ‘’ Be themselves’’,’’ Tell their own story and they should write about what they want’’, and ‘’ Think small, don’t over think what you are writing about. ’’(Zinsser’s memoir pages 2,4,6) This advice tells beginner memoir writer to express who you are and say as much as you would like to say. In the memoir ‘’ Bad Boy’’, Walter Dean Myers gives a lot of insight on what his childhood was like.

When we speak of Autobiography, we mean life writing which is considered to be a way to write and tell our own struggles and hardships in our lives. As an example of Autobiography, Lucy Grealy’s “Autobiography of a face” as the protagonist in her book, she is relatable to many Greek Mythical creatures, because of her life experiences, life events and the difficulties she faced. Lucy was born in Dublin, Ireland, her family moved to United States, to New York. She was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 9, which lead to the removal of her jawbone. Her childhood was not the typical childhood you would see in our daily life, it was harsh ,tough, full of insults, and taunts followed by the piercing stares of everyone around her, because of how she looked.

Cultural identity, the identity or feeling of belonging to a group, but what does that mean for people? For many of people their cultural identity it describes who they are, their heritage, and who they are as a person. For Pat Mora she has been torn between her cultural identity; she is not accepted by their of her cultures. Frida Kahlo is torn between her home, Mexico, and her current residence, the U.S.A.. While Frida Kahlo and Pat Mora identify as Mexican for their cultural identity, Mora describes wanting to be accepting by both of her cultures, while Frida wants to go home to her true culture. Frida Kahlo and Pat Mora both express emotion throughout their pieces.

Nonfiction is a place without opinion and needs reliable sources of information to base the writings upon. Memoirs are someone’s life in their own opinion and should be labeled as fiction to warn that all events in the work may or may not be

Life Goals In the essay “The Storyteller”, Sandra Cisneros describes how her identity was shaped by goals that she had for herself. Starting from a young Cisneros dreamt about living in her own silent home that fitted her taste. Years later after coming home from college she still had the dream of living on her own and also with a career goal of becoming a writer. Cisneros determination to follow her dreams was strong, however, her father’s did not agree with the dreams and even had a different idea of what he wanted for her.

Taking different English and writing classes has allowed me to write different types of papers. One paper that can be very challenging is the personal narrative. There are certain requirements that you must follow; each paper is different depending on who assigns it. When I am assigned to write this type of paper, usually it is dreadful to start and accomplish. This type of paper should just be removed from college writing courses.

Why do people write memoirs? The most obvious answer is that to share their unique journey of life with others. However, it goes far beyond that. By writing memoirs, The writers can also reveal things in their life that they never notice before, some reminisces that become meaningful after time went by, and some decisions that were made subconsciously but profound. The memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City written by Nick Flynn tells Flynn’s arduous journey through life, having a father who never shows up and a mother who committed suicide during his time in college.

William Zinsser gives specific instructions in “How to Write a Memoir”. He tells you to, ”Be Yourself,” “Speak Freely,” and, “Tell Your Own Story”. This tells writers to tell the whole story through the good and the bad. ”Popular” by Maya Van Wagenen, uses his advice by using her point of view, using small memories from the past, and true storytelling. In William Zinsser’s, “How to Write a Memoir” he states that the writer should “Be Yourself”. In “Popular”, Maya states “For now, Betty Cornell has become my new soul mate, and I am married to every word.

I decided to do a compare and contrast paper, by comparing Frederick Douglas to Elie Wiesel. Frederick, who was a former slave, and Elie Wiesel was a sent to Poland during the Holocaust, both became some of the best writers and speakers of all time. I chose to compare these two authors, because I thought it would be interesting to compare the two writers that come from different backgrounds, but both wrote biographies about two of the worst times in history, slavery. What is an A biography? It’s a “detailed description of a person's life", (Article 5) maybe like education, work, relationships, and death, Biographies is supposed to show real life experiences of these life events.

The animals in the paintings include a cat (signifies on being catty), a monkey (substitute for children she could not have), a butterfly (transformation), and her thorn necklace that pierced her flesh (shows suffering). These animals and objects created a spotlight on her emotional and physical pain throughout her life. Such as these events that we are able to discover in Frida Kahlo ’s artwork, metaphors are used to fill semantic gaps when new concepts emerge, just like how it is being used within science. When an image gets produced, it becomes a reference point for other images and the meaning will change according to how the individual will view it.

Frida Kahlo created many glorious pieces. One of her most intriguing pieces is The Two Fridas. The image is quite symbolic and meaningful. Kahlo was a Mexican artist greatly known for her self portraits and the pain, passion and feminism of her paintings. The name of the piece I choose to analysis is Las dos Fridas, also known as The Two Fridas.

The Two Fridas by Frida Kahlo When Frida Kahlo painted, The Two Fridas she was dealing with the divorce of her husband and embraced herself fully. In this masterpiece Frida illustrates her past and current self with divine detail with her skills of her brush. Frida creates a timeline through herself portrait of what was and is now by captivating her audience through the struggles of divorce, a heart condition, and losing herself. In the painting, she creates a picture in the audience eyes of her inner turmoil by illustrating through ethos and pathos.

This is a critical analysis of the painting Henry Ford Hospital by Frida Kahlo. This artwork consists of oil paint on a tin canvas. It was painted in Detroit, Michigan after she had one of her many miscarriages. Today it can be found in the Collection of Museo Dolores Olmedo in Xochimilco, Mexico (Esaak). This analysis will describe the elements of design, principles of design, and the reason Kahlo created this artwork.

This piece is important because it is exceptional compared to well-known artists. It has an philosophical interpretation that can relate to viewers’ lives. It is visually unusual compared to other art because it does not have a specific subject, and the crypticness is fascinating because it has viewers thinking deeply about its meaning as they begin to understand the visuals. It is a substantial piece of art because if one is having a difficult time in life, one can glance at The Deep and feel a sense of comfort of not feeling

Certainly, it is difficult to remain neutral writing an autobiography. Just say no to writing about yourself on Wikipedia, unless you like disregarding their policies. Remain Neutral Certainly, it is almost impossible to remain neutral, if the subject is yours truly. Those that write about themselves tend to get caught up in the emotional experience and wish to create a positive biography that they would not mind sharing with friends, family, and a potential employer.
