The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.

It is a great honor to be nominated as a member of the National Honor Society. There are many reasons why I want to take part in NHS. One reason why I want to be in it is to continue to grow academically with people who have the same goals as me. I want to be encouraged, not discouraged by the people around me. The cost of tuition and the burden of student loans loomed like insurmountable mountains, casting shadows of doubt over my aspirations. Yet, amidst the turmoil of my thoughts, a flicker of hope emerged. I refused to resign myself to the predetermined narrative that seemed to confine my future. Instead, I channeled my frustrations into an unwavering pursuit of knowledge.

It is truly a great honor to be considered as a potential member of one of the most prestigious organizations in the country. The National Honor Society (NHS) is founded on three pillars: leadership, service, and character. These pillars are what every member of the NHS abides by daily. I believe I exemplify what the NHS was created for and would be a great addition to the organization. Leadership is a core part of what the NHS is all about.

The National Honor Society is built upon four founding principles: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have a high school life filled with dedication to these four principles on the Spiritual standpoint, the Familial level, the Community level and finally at the National level. Moreover, I did begin my dedication to these same four principles even before this starting with the Boy Scouts of America and this commitment will continue along with having a rich future when I reach my fullest potential. If I were to have the honor of winning this scholarship, it would boost my self-esteem because not only was I nominated by my teachers, but because I will have created a foundation to begin my journey to achieve a successful college education. This scholarship would help me financially and assist in providing a well-rounded college experience. I believe in the importance of a college degree; being the first generation in my family to attend a four-year university has given me even more motivation and determination to succeed. Throughout my high school career, I have been actively involved in several extracurricular activities.

As a student I have had to face mental challenges, as well as financial difficulty. As a freshman I had to learn the value of a dollar. Living in a household of six becomes a strain when you are responsible for college tuition yearly. Dealing with financial issues while maintain a good GPA became a burden. I believed obtaining a scholarship would make everything better.

This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
