Fall of Rome The fall of Rome had many contributing factors. During the fall of Rome, many new things were getting introduced like new religions, new leaders in a short amount of time, and wars. It was very hard for Rome to sustain a society so eventually, it fell. The fall of Rome happened because of the rise in Christianity, excessive military spending, and political corruption. The rise in Christianity was one of the major reasons why Rome fell. This is because Christians were spending their money on places other than the Roman empire and they refused to fight for Rome. “Many Romans put their money toward church buildings rather than the empire” (Guided notes). This evidence shows that it was more important to Christians to spend money on things such as church buildings and temples, where they spend lots of time, other than military purposes. Since Christianity became more popular, more people were spending money on places they wanted other than their empire. “Christians refused to fight for Rome during a time …show more content…
Empires were using all of the money on the military other than society and had to raise taxes to pay their soldiers.“Military spending left few resources available for other vital activities like public housing or maintaining roads” (Guided notes). This shows that spending too much money on the military left no money for the citizens or other needs. They only used the money on the military and left society with none. They had no money to focus on other needs in society. “In order to pay for the soldiers, emperors had to raise taxes” (Guided notes). This tells us that the empire was taking more money from the citizens and giving it to the soldiers. The taxes should have gone towards society but were used to pay the soldiers and left the citizens with nothing. These pieces of evidence show how excessive military spending had a big impact on Rome's falling but so did political
One important reason for the fall of Rome was natural disasters. In document F it shows that the population decreased from a million people to two hundred and fifty thousand because of the plague. This problem helps explain why Rome fell because it shows that thousands of people died, meaning there were less people. With less people in Rome many jobs are not being
Another reason Rome fell is because Rome grew too large. Rome included so many different lands and people, it started to add even more problems for Rome's economy. When Rome's expansion slowed, other conquered lands and people couldn't be part of the Empire, making them not under Rome's control. When the Emperor tried so solve the problem by raising taxes, normal living citizens couldn't pay for them and became poor. Soon Rome became too big and couldn't pay for itself, so when it couldn't pay for itself, it couldn't control itself.
After examining these documents, my three reasons for the fall of Rome are, Foreign invaders invading Rome, natural disasters, and the citizens weren't wearing armor. The first reason for the fall of Rome is that foreign invaders were invading Rome. the map in document C shows a lot of the foreign invaders coming to Rome to invade Rome. (Document C) My reason why I picked this is that when the invaders invaded Rome, the roman army is getting weaker and other armies are attacking Rome and the roman army runs away instead of fighting back.
Military mistakes, natural disasters, these are just a couple of ways Rome began to fall. Rome was falling, the reasons why are natural disaster and diseases, military mistakes, and foreign invasions. Natural disaster and diseases were one of many reasons Rome began to fall. This is the most biggest cause of the falling because “The Roman world was shaken by a violent and destructive earthquake.” (Document F)
This shows that one of the main reasons that led to the fall of the Roman empire was because of their financial strains. Because of this, they weren’t able to recruit people to fight for them in wars, which overtime caused them to lose wars.
In this essay the reason for Rome’s fall will be identified and why they caused Rome’s downfall. The primary reasons for the fall of Rome are military problems, untrustworthy government/injustice, and natural disasters/diseases. One of the reasons Rome fell is due to the fact Rome had multiple Military problems. According to Document B “because of negligence and laziness, parade ground drills were abandoned, the customary armor began to seem heavy since the soldiers rarely ever wore it” (Doc B). Also according to Document B, “soldiers fought the Goths without any protection for chest and head and were often beaten by archers” (Doc B).
The fall of the Roman Empire, where every leader gets murdered along with the military. Rome was the most powerful empire in the ancient world until it fell. The three primary reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire are weakened military and invasions, too much territory to govern, and faulty leadership. One of the primary reasons why Rome fell was that it suffered from a weakened military and invasions.
A chart which compares Roman ideology and Christianity states that the difference between the two is “peace through violent victory and peace through nonviolent justice,” (Document E). Christianity was a better option for people because it has a better concept of peace. Christianity’s idea of peace does not involve violence, but rather fairness and justice. In contrast, the Romans tended to fight wars to “establish peace” by taking control of land so things could be “quiet and orderly.” However, that was not true peace, it was only fearful compliance with the law.
This loss of population made it hard to find laborers and soldiers for war. This caused the empire to pay Germanic soldiers to fight for them. The need to pay for troops created a large debt for the Romans. Another reason that led to the decline of the Roman Empire was their water source coming in through lead pipes. Many people believed this poisoned the Romans which also led to low population.
So Rome paid thousands of German soldiers to fight for them. Obviously this made Rome 's military weak because they would easily run from battle or betray Rome because they had nothing to protect in Rome. Another reason the Roman empire fell to shambles was because the Roman military stopped going on military conquests. When they did this the Roman economy collapsed because the economy relied on the constant income of plundered trophies from captured civilizations.
Given these reasons, it can be concluded of how Rome fell. Rome was too big and when plagues were brought over and were spread, it decreased the population and hassled the economic life because they didn’t have the resources to pay back the Germanic soldiers. When social and military issues came into play, it led to great cities being lost. Lastly, the reason the contributed the most to the fall of Rome was the weak or selfish emperors and the state being ruined because the government was not following the spirit of past
The Economy of Rome was a great reason as to why the Empire fell. The Economy of Rome was unstable due to the way the emperors had ruled and their unreasonably mistaken choices, leading to a lack of trade and poverty. The Leadership
Imagine the world's biggest statue ever begin to fall apart over many years. Essentially this is what happened to Rome. There were many reasons why this happened. There were three signifi cant reasons for the “fall” of Rome which include a weakening military, foreign invaders, and the most important of the three, natural disasters. One important reason that Rome fell was there weakening military.
Our soldiers fought the Goths without any protection for the chest and head and were often beaten by archers. (doc B) My 2nd reason for the fall of Rome is their military mismanagement. The reason why I say their military was mismanaged is that doc B shows how the roman soldiers were getting lazy and not wanting to wear their armor in practice to the point when they got in a battle and they would die easily. The last reason for the fall of Rome is the natural disasters the Roman world was
While that was happening a civil war was going on. The military was in bad shape and was interfering with the politics. The three Major causes of the the Fall of Rome were Economic Problems, Socico-Politcal problems, and external invasions that lead to the country not being able to protect itself. Economically
