What were the primary reasons for the fall of Rome? After examining these documents the primary reason for the fall of Romewas political instability, military management, and natural disasters. The first reason for the fall of Rome was political instability. The chart from document A. In document A the chart shows us how the Roman emperors died.

In document E an ex-citizen of Rome says, “The condition of Roman subjects in time of peace is [worse than war] … taxes are very severe, and unprincipled men inflict injuries on others … A [wealthy lawbreaker] … is not punished for his injustice, while a poor man … undergoes the legal penalty”. This shows that even the citizens of Rome no longer wanted to be citizens anymore. The government was unfair and unstable and the people inside and outside of Rome knew it. In document A it shows that there were many emperors that ruled in a short period of time.

Another reason Rome fell is because Rome grew too large. Rome included so many different lands and people, it started to add even more problems for Rome's economy. When Rome's expansion slowed, other conquered lands and people couldn't be part of the Empire, making them not under Rome's control. When the Emperor tried so solve the problem by raising taxes, normal living citizens couldn't pay for them and became poor. Soon Rome became too big and couldn't pay for itself, so when it couldn't pay for itself, it couldn't control itself.

This shows that one of the main reasons that led to the fall of the Roman empire was because of their financial strains. Because of this, they weren’t able to recruit people to fight for them in wars, which overtime caused them to lose wars.

Rome has become very weak and almost scared during this time period, to the outsiders Rome might be a big place but they are weakening and I have a feeling that it is going to cause a lot more wars and battles to come. There were many different causes for the fall of the Roman empire, not just one. The Roman Empire was very strong, but eventually broke down over time for a multitude of reasons. Most of those reasons had to do with changes in Rome’s identity. Some of these changes in Rome’s identity led to the fall of Rome because they were so sudden; only portions of the Roman population were prepared for the change. Other times, citizens got into arguments because they were, in a way, too prepared.

The disloyalty from the military resulted in attacks on established governments by soldiers while distrust in the government among people led them to take matters into their own hands. The military instability influenced the fall of the Roman

In this 50-year time period there were 22 emperors, 14 people killed and 3 people that died from natural causes. This was believed to have happened because their empire was losing power. Them losing power made them an easy target for the other empires. Foreign invasions were another problem with the roman empire.

The Downfall of Rome Rome was a powerful empire. Rome has been at war many times in order to protect its land. There are many theories that contribute to the fall of Rome. Rome had a very unorganized way to elect leaders and they were just a very unorganized society. The reasons that contributed to the fall of Rome were that Rome was politically corrupt, had excessive military spending, there was a rise in inflation and taxes.

In Document A, it shows 19 Roman Emperors in the 50 years of 235-285 CE. Thirteen of the nineteen leaders were assassinated or possibly assassinated. This perhaps is because of weak leadership or only wanting the power for themselves. Citizens were also upset with how the government was not “not possessing the spirit of former generations” and because of this, it was “ruining the state.” (Doc E)

The two factors that most contributed to the fall of the Roman Empire were greatly impactful in Ancient History. During the decline, the reign was much shorter and they were most likely to be murdered. Thanks to Dioclectian’s reign, the New Empire was introduced, giving people more rights and protection. However, this resulted in great consequences as it became harder to govern and harder to manage.

Close to the end of the era for the Roman Empire, Rome wasn't able to keep an emperor for a long period of time. Roman emperors from 235 - 285 CE were either assassinated, died in a battle, a plague, or died from suicide. About 19 emperors between the 50 year period all died and did not serve for a long period of time. The chart from Document A shows the emperors, each reign, and how they died. Just by looking at the chart, it shows that Rome and its government were not able to keep any emperors.

Imagine the world's biggest statue ever begin to fall apart over many years. Essentially this is what happened to Rome. There were many reasons why this happened. There were three signifi cant reasons for the “fall” of Rome which include a weakening military, foreign invaders, and the most important of the three, natural disasters. One important reason that Rome fell was there weakening military.

Farmers left their land and the economy sunk. Social problems also helped the fall of Rome. Values like patriotism, discipline, and devotion dwindled rapidly. The upper class was no longer involved with the government. Four major causes of Rome’s fall were military attacks, political turmoil, economic issues, and social decay.
