I started working in the health care field five years ago as a CNA. My goals have changed slightly as I have been in school. I now want to become a Nurse Practitioner. My plan is to finish at York County with a Health Studies Associate and then move onto my BSN than to an NP. The challenges I face while on this journey is exhaustion.

Currently there are two different areas I could see myself working on down the road. The first being operations. I have worked in operations in two different capacities and I enjoy the concept that no day will be the same. Everyday there is a different obstacle that the operations department must adjust to and that idea excites me. The second career path is working with the salary cap.

The first eight years of my life, I spent in India where I was born. Growing up I was constantly reminded by my parents that I needed to make them proud by getting a good job and living a good lifestyle. They told me this because they did not want to see me live a hard life like they did. When I was nine years old, I moved from India to the United States of America. The reason why I moved to America was not because I was living a bad life in India, it was so that I could have a better education and more opportunities in life.

To do more at my job it will be to become a dental hygienist. A dental hygienist is the professionals who clean your teeth when you go for your routine dental visit. Becoming a dental hygienist requires more training and school than it does to become a dental assistant. My goal in my life is to have a degree on what I enjoy the most. This degree will help me get a better job salary that can also benefit my family.

Since I was little I have always wanted a job to where I am constantly helping people get back on their feet. Seeing these nurses take care of my family the way they did make me want to become that one day! There are many different branches in the medical field, and the one I'm most interested in is being a Flight Nurse or a trauma nurse.

In the world of college, there are many majors or professions to choose from. Whatever career I choose to take, I know that there are many doors open for me to walk through. Planning for life after high school, I am considering going into the medical field to become a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse (NICU). As an aspiring physician in Emergency Medicine, it is hard to describe typical physician workday activities. Every day is unique and filled with many opportunities to learn and develop clinical, interpersonal communication, leadership and critical thinking skills. Despite this, there are certain routine activities which I had the opportunity to observe through my shadowing experience in the Emergency and Operating rooms at California Hospital Medical Center, Los Angeles. One day, a two year old patient came into the ER after falling and cutting her head. The patient’s mother told the physician that her daughter is nervous and scared.

I experience what it was like on a daily basis at the hospital. Experiencing this inspired me into going into the healthcare/medial field. I learned in the volunteer program that personal characteristics that you need to have is respect, caring, positive attitude towards everyone. I thought I knew what career path I wanted for my future, with that in mind, I sought a degree in Fitness and Human Performance to continue with a career in Occupational Therapy. In this career choice, the way I got to help patients was through therapy. While taking classes, I realized Occupational Therapy is not what I truly was passionate about. I decided to take my mother’s advice and choose what I truly love to do, which is to help people all around and I believe the nursing program would be the best fit. I am currently completing my certified nurse program to proceed with a job as a patient care technician.

I have always thought about working in the medical field, but where was the question. I started looking at the field of nursing. My mom works as a nurse so it was obvious that I start there. I had learned different things in the medical field. I learn how to verify insurance, call in prescription and had a great deal of customer experience by now. I had the endurance to learn anything. I would be placed in front office and back office. I enjoyed back office more dealing with directly assisting the doctor.
