Becoming A Nicu Nurse Essay

When I was a little girl I knew that I wanted to be a Nursery Nurse like my aunt. I was the child who used to always want to play schools with my peers or the children in my family (poor things!). I also used to sit my teddies in a row so they could see the story I was reading them. I had my own display board for my children’s (teddies’) work. I created registers and my very own going home box out of a shoebox.

My experience and education has given me an immense amount of knowledge and skills such as nursing practices, patient and family care, and communication and leadership skills to make me a valuable team member and an excellent choice for the Neonatal RN position.

This left me not only fighting emotions of sorrow and grief but also with a sense of hope. I was an influence on him as he learned to trust and learned to read. I also became a safe place to open his hurts so healing could begin. It was a privilege to wrestle with him through some bleak and painful

Also, I am going to start getting paid when I am still doing my schooling because you have to start as a Registered Nurse. I would work to improve my patients and their family’s community and make them feel happy and healthy. They would be able to trust me and feel protected when they are around me to make my job easier. The biggest reason I chose this career is because I love children. I would love to help them and bond with them.

According to the National Association of Neonatal Nurses they care for infants that were born premature have birth defects, infections, cardiac malformations, and surgical problems they also work with babies that are born with addictions and HIV infections. Nurses are the ones that make a difference in these infants lives and their families. They are the voice of the sickest and smallest patients who cannot speak for themselves. Physicians and nurses put in their time and lives for these vulnerable little babies. According to the National Association of Neonatal Nurses everyone working in this type of career will work in a hospital setting in either a level two nursery that contains less ill infants or a level three nursery that has the more critical patients.

There are many jobs and fields in the healthcare career. Some people may want to be a Oncologist, Gynecologist, Neurosurgeon, Registered Nurse, or a Certified Nursing Assistant. Every person has a different passion and reason they want to be what they want to be. While some people may want to work as a doctor in trauma, I want to become a nurse practitioner and work in some type of pediatric field. Yet, becoming a nurse practitioner is not that simple.

The NICU is a Neonatal intensive care unit is a special area for premature and sick babies, they go there to receive the help they need, and some babies need help to breathe or they are missing something in their body. They can also come early before their due date and they are sent there to receive their special help. To be a neonatal nurse, you have to be a registered nurse in the (RN) with a four-year Bachelor of Science in a nursing degree is your (BSN). You must be certified in the NICU; you have to complete a minimum of year’s clinical experience in a hospital place. You also have to have licenses from the state giving you permission to do the things you learned.

In 2008, I took a trip with my family to Lagos, Nigeria, my homeland. Nigeria is a country that is rich with natural resources, culture, and a lot of fun. It is, however, lacking in other aspects. During this trip, I visited a public hospital- to see a sick family member- and witnessed a situation where a mother gave birth to premature twins in the obstetrics unit. As a result of the mother going into early labor, her twins had to be put in an incubator to ensure their survival.

I have a heart for service and a strong desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Becoming a nurse I will be able to fulfill my passion of making a positive impact on individual lives on a daily basis. I will be able to fulfill my nurturing and caring desires of helping others. I’m very passionate and fascinated with the medical field in all aspects. I strive for excellence, integrity and love interacting with all diversity of people.

For the majority of people, pursuing a career in the medical field is a career which should be avoided at all costs. Whether this profession is a surgeon, a nurse, or a psychiatrist, the long hours of study and work (which are necessary for these occupations), are not in most people’s definition of a “fun job.” In addition, after the long years of study come to an end, the most feared moments arise, the time to pay student loans. Nevertheless, none of these obstacles intimidated Juan Delgado in order to pursue his dream as a healthcare professional, more importantly, to help our community. Delgado, the oldest of two, was born on December 3rd,1991.

Being a critical care nurse comes along with a lot of different responsibilities and many different things happen during a day on the job. What a day on the job looks like for a critical care nurse would be, checking on the patient's pain levels every hour, monitoring patients for changes in their status, evaluating their vital signs, and being an advocate for the patient and his or hers family. Some critical care nurses work up to twenty hours a day and others just work the day shift or just work a night

Growing up I could remember my mother who is a nurse always loving and helping others. Thanks to her passion for helping and caring for others, I developed the heart to want care for others especially those who aren’t able to care for themselves. Being the eldest child I would always help my mother take care of my sibling. You could say I was their second mom. I love my mother dearly and she will forever be my role model in life.

The arrival of a new baby, especially the first always marks a new beginning for a mother. It comes with a lot of challenges more so if the mother is less knowledgeable about baby care. Take such as cleaning the baby for the first time, or feeding, it is not easy. The baby is still fragile and slippery and needs a special care. But if the mother is not ready for all these, or maybe, does not have any knowledge on what to do, the baby’s life might be endangered since the baby needs a special care which only the mother can give.

Importance of nurses A nurse is a health care professional who is engaged in the practice of nursing. Nurses are men and women who are responsible (along with other health care professionals) for the treatment, safety and recovery of acutely or chronically ill or injured people, health maintenance of the healthy, and treatment of life-threatening emergencies in a wide range of health care settings. Nurses may also be involved in medical and nursing research and perform a wide range of non-clinical functions necessary to the delivery of health care. Nurses develop a plan of care, sometimes working collaboratively with physicians, therapists, the patient, the patient 's family and other team members.
