Each morning patients came in for assessment and the treatment team developed or altered existing treatment protocols. I longed to be part of this team, working to stabilize each patient so they could return home to pursue their goals. Overall, no matter the health profession, all healthcare providers have an obligation of doing no harm to patients and practicing a patient/person-centered approach. In addition, healthcare providers must help to the fullest extent based on their training and credentials. Equally important is to always demonstrate honesty and integrity, while maintaining compassion and confidentiality. Patients come in all shapes, sizes, races, backgrounds, and as such, should all be respected and treated equally. Lastly, in order to provide the best care possible, all professional knowledge must remain current (via continuing education, seminars, or trainings) as new health technologies, new medications and devices, or advances in medicine emerge.

Long hours and shortage of personnel can lead to routines of practice, which can hinder the development of patient centered care in hospitals. Even when patient centered care is valued, the demands of caring for many patients at a time can restrict the professionals’ ability to provide physical and emotional support, and respect for their patients’ preferences (Kelly, 2007). These are very common tools in the business organizations. People do believe that these formal ethics statement is just as controversial as they are popular. They think that codes are very vague, codes may not be read and finally it’s become the final word on the ethics subject. But in reality workplaces, codes stand for describing an organization’s ethical stance for anyone and also outside of the organizations. And it also helps and guide newcomers to know what the organization’s standard and what type of ethical climates they are using.
