Why did the most dominant and strong empire of its time “fall”? Rome came falling down for many reasons like plague, natural disaster, weak army, many rulers dying, and the lack of social justice. In this essay I will be talking about the key points on how Rome fell. Rome fell because of plague, weak military, and because people were not happy with the government and taxes. In my opinion Rome fell because of a weak army which was caused during the Pax Romana, a period of about 200 years that was very peaceful. Rome at one time had a very strong and dominant army, that is one of the main reasons Rome became the most powerful empire in the world. “But when, because of negligence and laziness, parade ground drills were abandoned, the customary …show more content…
This caused them to lose many lives due to this. Natural disasters like an earthquake and flood killed many and them, then plague wiped out thousands of people. This caused Rome to become weak because many people in the army died and many people that helped run Rome died. But then because of the floods and earthquake it killed many people and destroyed many things which really put Rome in a tight spot. “The second year of the reign of Valens (366 CE)... the Roman world was shaken by a violent and destructive earthquake.” “But the tide soon returned with the weight of an immense flood which was severely felt on the coast of sicily, Greece, and Egypt… Fifty thousand persons had lost their lives in the flood.” After Rome lost 50,000 people in the flood the plague killed thousands more. “The resulting disease decimated the population. The population of Rome decreased from a million people to 250,000.” This disease caused the population to decrease severely, and most of the people in the army died as well so they had very little and weak military power. All of these things are happening to Rome and it is causing them to become very weak and have almost no military power because know they only have 250,000 people in all of Rome compared to what they used to have, 1 million. All of this helped play a significant role in the fall of
What were the primary reasons for the fall of Rome? After examining these documents the primary reason for the fall of Romewas political instability, military management, and natural disasters. The first reason for the fall of Rome was political instability. The chart from document A. In document A the chart shows us how the Roman emperors died.
One of the biggest reasons Rome fell is because the military. The military started to become sluggish and weak. Since this happened soldiers fought the goths without any protection for their chests and heads (doc B.) This made it so soldiers were easily killed in battle by archers. Adding on to that Soldiers were exposed to wounds because they have no armour so they would think about running and not fighting (doc B.) Senators, bureaucrats, clergymen, cooks, bakers, and slaves all avoided the draft not giving enough people into to military (doc B.)
One important reason for the fall of Rome was natural disasters. In document F it shows that the population decreased from a million people to two hundred and fifty thousand because of the plague. This problem helps explain why Rome fell because it shows that thousands of people died, meaning there were less people. With less people in Rome many jobs are not being
Shocking, right? Secondly cities shrank in size and population. The population mainly shrunk because of the many deaths when Rome was attacked, people also flead from the country of Rome when the attack was going on. Many people were also sick after the war
The upper class of Rome gradually became more selfish and turned away from their jobs that once originally characterized their empire. Cultural decline caused by new commitments of the upper classes and lack of political authority also lead to the downfall of Rome. All these conflicts resulted in a spiral that steadily worsened. Explaining why the fall pf Rome left a bigger impact than the fall of the Han.
They thought this because Rome was leaps and bounds ahead of others in military, political, economic, architectural, and technological aspects. But Rome was far from perfect, because of its split in 395 A.D. ancient Rome began falling apart. The things that made it great became its downfall. But there were many important factors that made Rome fall, but the most prominent were military, economic, and religious factors.
It is true that there are other reasons that explain Rome’s decline. For example. Political assassinations and natural disasters. However the three reasons above - foreign invasion, legal injustice, and especially military problems - provide the best explanation why Rome finally crumbled in the 5th century
Given these reasons, it can be concluded of how Rome fell. Rome was too big and when plagues were brought over and were spread, it decreased the population and hassled the economic life because they didn’t have the resources to pay back the Germanic soldiers. When social and military issues came into play, it led to great cities being lost. Lastly, the reason the contributed the most to the fall of Rome was the weak or selfish emperors and the state being ruined because the government was not following the spirit of past
From the fires that burned Rome’s buildings to the gladiator matches to the multiple bad emperors the Pax Romana was a time for things to build up. Sadly whenever things go up they must also go down. This is what happened to ancient Rome. The main reasons Rome fell were the rise of Christianity, expensive military spending, and political corruption.
The Roman empire fell for various reasons. The Roman Empire struggled even before its fall with poorly managed leadership, rich citizens not paying their taxes, increased slavery, the economy falling apart, a dangerous plague, and low food production. The poor times during the Pax Romana also contributed to the overall fall of the Roman Empire. Rome fell due to inadequate political management, the Romans being unemployed, and uncontrolled amounts of military expense. Political corruption in Rome was one of the many predominant reasons for the fall of Rome.
When the Roman Republic reached its peak, it soon started declining. There were many different political, economic, and social problems that developed when Rome surmounted more and more people. All these problems led to a civil war that changed Rome. This civil war transformed Rome from a republic to an empire. There were five main difficulties that Rome faced, and that led to the transformation of Rome.
The Fall of the Western Roman Empire The Western Roman Empire was an inspiring empire that mastered architecture, engineering, trading, and many other things. But as the empire grew political problems went with it and followed economic issues, diseases and eventually foreign invaders. One of the main reasons for the fall of the Western Roman Empire was the many political problems.
While that was happening a civil war was going on. The military was in bad shape and was interfering with the politics. The three Major causes of the the Fall of Rome were Economic Problems, Socico-Politcal problems, and external invasions that lead to the country not being able to protect itself. Economically
Finally, in 476 A.D., a Germanic General named Flavius Odoacer overthrew the Roman Empire marking the end of the empire, and became the first King of Italy (476-493 A.D.). With the over expansion of land and overspending of the military combined with the corrupt government and the wars between the religions, the entire structure of the Roman Empire was 4 damaged. This last strike, in 476 A.D., caused the once powerful and mighty Roman Empire to fall. As they say, Rome was not built in a day, and it did not fall in a day either. It was a combination of all of these events taking place that brought this mighty empire to its knees.
The Fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most memorable setbacks of one of the greatest civilizations to ever exist. Many theories have been said as to the cause of the empire’s fall but, even today, there are still unanswered discussions on what the specific factors were. There are numerous of factors that contributed to the empire’s fall such as the effectiveness of their army, the health of its citizens, the strength of the economy, the capability of the successors, the continuous battle for power, religion and the regulation of their administration. The Fall of Rome was started with the decline in Western Roman Empire where the emperors failed to maintain their rule. The lost of power of the West let alone East was a great threat to the empire but the theme of the decline has been discussed and changed through a much bigger time frame from year 376.
