During the past six months, our youth group has seen several of our young people leave our group. We have heard that many of these young people have been encouraged to join the youth group connected to Destiny Church. Our youth group leader believes that it would be useful to know why our young people are being drawn to this group, and understand what the beliefs of the Destiny Church are and whether these beliefs are the teachings of the Christian tradition. I have been asked by our leader to prepare an analysis report which explores these questions. Destiny Church is an interesting group to report on as it grew from traditional Pentecostal beginnings, however it has adopted a charismatic form of Christianity lead by one individual, Bishop …show more content…
This contradicts Luke 24:36-43 when Jesus said, “Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” This scripture comes from when the disciples first saw Jesus they thought it was his ghost or spirit. However, Jesus invites them to touch him so that he can prove that he has risen physically from the dead and that he had risen in the same body. To prove this further, Jesus says to Thomas one of the twelve disciples who was not convinced unless he could see the nail marks of Jesus hands, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe” John 20:24-27. Although Bishop Tamaki has stated that his sermons have been taken out of context, my research for this report suggest that this belief is there and is delivered in different ways. For the followers in the youth group to believe that Jesus was not resurrected, is denying what Apostle Paul tells us is a vital part of our Christian faith “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile” 1 Corinthians 15:17 …show more content…
In one of his sermons he stated that “What I am trying to tell you that there is no difference to what is in you and what is God.” Although Orthodox Christian belief is that we are made sharing some of God’s attributes and made in the image of God, but we are not God. Therefore, the Destiny Church is adopting beliefs that are different to what Christians believe, which is that we have Christ in us (2 Corinthians 13:5) but not that we are the same thing as Jesus Christ. The Destiny church teachings to the youth group state that they believe that Christ has always been in you, as God has given a portion of his own Spirit to humans. This differs from Christian tradition where in 2 Corinthians 13:5 states “examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realise that Christ Jesus is in you – unless, of course, you fail the
Bethel Baptist Church never encountered a challenge like this before. The church accepted an invitation to participate in a mission in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Making an appearance in a foreign environment terrified both adolescents and adults. Even with those uneasy feelings, the congregation quickly zeroed in on the goal at hand in spreading God’s love to this needy region. With events such as church cleanup, food ministry, and disaster relief, the church left with a greater appreciation of life, and how lucky many of the citizens in the United States truly are.

Billingsley expands upon the issue of male youth in relation to the Black church in his chapter, “The Black Church and the Male Youth Crisis”. In the section, Billingsley introduces the issue of youths being uninvolved in the church making it difficult for the church to fulfill the necessary function of addressing youth concerns such as drug abuse, academics, etc. The issue is particularly salient when it comes to young black males because they lack many of the other role model’s others would have to help them. Yet, in response, Billingsley questions the legitimacy of the church non-action by discussing four churches who have already addressed the issue.

"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." John 15:12 I would like to tell you about a smaller, but lovely, sacred space close to my home, called the Knox United Church. It is a place in Calgary, Canada, where I live now, that is over 100 years old and known for its special features and peaceful attitudes of acceptance. It is a beautiful old church, a cornerstone of calm in our hectic downtown. The gentle looking, soft brown sandstone building rests serenely amongst the metal and glass of soaring modern high-rises, and is a beacon to the vulnerable in our harsh winters.

Dean offers three practices of how to embody a missional imagination. The translation practice of catechesis, or knowing what one believes, “gives teenagers cultural tools that stake up young faith, improves teenagers’ exposure to the Son and therefore the likelihood that their faith will mature and bear fruit. The second practice of bilingual storytelling, or testimony, translates the language of the Christian story into the language of cultural context in order to help young people articulate and confess their identity as Christians. Finally, detachment through de-centering experiences like mission trips cultivates empathy and reflexivity through less of a focus on the self and more of an opening up to the other. Although the solution cannot be found by means of a pragmatic path that is guaranteed to end at the intended destination, this process can be summarized in one word.

Hershel states “and shall come forth; they have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation” (the walking dead. Season 2) This biblical allusion reveals that the ones who doubt resurrection are the ones who doubt God. The biblical allusion also shows how important the bible is on the world and provides a sense of realism. The accurate and realistic use of the Biblical allusion provides reason in itself for why so many people look to the bible to get them through tough times.

The first followers of Jesus were his twelve disciples. However, Jesus also made many enemies amongst the Romans. Jesus was crucified unjustly on a Roman cross for the sins of the world. Three days later he raise from the dead and proved that resurrection is God’s salvation offered to the people. By believing in Jesus and his teachings, it will lead to eternal life after death.
Only in John, some of his disciples bring their friends and family to meet him, where they too are called to be disciples. Thomas insisted that he needed to physically see the resurrected Jesus before he would believe. When he eventually touches Jesus’ wounds, Thomas finally believes what the other disciples have been telling him all along, declaring, “My Lord and my God”. “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet
