Atlantic Cape Community College Church After Several Years Amina Holliday Reflection Paper 10/27/2015 Abstract I always knew church was where people was to worship God but I didn’t understand why people had put so much faith into the pastor. As I got older, I realized that a pastor is counseling people in the same area their still reading and studying. I don’t believe that all pastors have good intentions. The pastor’s main objective is to convince people that he knows the right way and believe what he tells you. I honestly feel that church is brainwashing. The pastor wants people to feel that Christs body and blood are actually there on the altar, that were actually standing before the Almighty, and people really get distracted and start to believe that. People will come to church depending on the father since he has the answers to all the problems. The members of the church are eventually allowing themselves to be deprived and victim to anything. They mindlessly will follow and obey everything they are told to do within those institutional walls because they believe so much in the pastor. I don’t think all …show more content…
When people accept this, that’s when they accept human authority to the point where they are hopelessly dependent, as children are with their parents. The pastor will point out weaknesses and then shout out ways to make it a strength. Once everyone starts to fall victim to the pastor word, they will be easily influenced by false doctrines. People will come to church depending on the “father” since he has the answers to all the problems. The members of the church are eventually allowing themselves to be deprived and victim to anything. They mindlessly will follow and obey everything they are told to do within those institutional walls because they believe so much in the
When talking about the church, a person must keep in mind the rituals that are performed usually by said churches. Sometimes these rituals are traditional, but you must not forget that the church does attempt to avoid such practices unless they were to adapt to such a stale lifestyle. To do this churches use genres to help impact the action going on in-/outside of the church—by that, of course, churches also vary in actions. Johnathan Swales tells us that, “a discourse community utilizes and hence possesses one or more genres in the communicative furtherance of its aims” (221). The church most dearest to me is none other than Titus Harvest Dome.
An example that Professor Magagna used during lecture was how would a leader preach comments that the followers may not like i.e. sinners? Clerics similar to many jobs are guided and chosen by the ‘employees’ or ‘followers’ and that in order for them to keep their job they must be admired by their congregation. Therefore we can see how their views can change in order to be admired and liked by their
Essential churches close the back door because they are not complex, shallow, have low expectation, and are not inward focus. Chapters seven through ten is the core of an essential church. The key is to simplify, deepen, expectation, and multiply: Simplify is getting the structure right through clarity - is when the process of making disciples is simple. For instance, our process at Progressive Baptist Church is connected to God, connected to others, and connected to serving this present age. It is so simple that our youth understand it and participate in serving this present age.
Julio’s comment about the treatment of women in the Pentecostal church shows how religion has manipulated women like Blanca into positions where they are expected to be directed and restrained by others. The inclusion of the pastor in the list of glorified roles shows that religion is held to such a high degree that it should be included on the same level of need as any other family member like a husband or child. Religious followers often have specific symbols that represent their religion in their lives or an object that they hold sacred because it represents their faith in their beliefs. However, the people of the Pentecostal church have placed their representation of faith into the pastor and made
Because a person cannot be controlled by outside sources, a person cannot be forced to go to church. By definition, the church is a voluntary place to come to publicly worship God to free one 's soul,
If you go to church then you are good, if you are good, if you do not, you are a bad person. Every way and everyone will always leave something to
Under the inspiration of God, John encourages these churches in the areas that they are doing right, and he rebukes these churches in the areas that they are doing that are sinful and
Methodology The Four Theological Voices Model The Four Theological Voices Model was developed by the Action Research: Church and Society team (ARCS), consisting of Helen Cameron, Deborah Bhatti, Catherine Duce, James Sweeney and Clare Watkins. In the book Talking about God in Practice, the ARCS team explains four theological voices which they discovered as they examined the practice of the Church. The four voices are: (i) normative theology, (ii) formal theology, (iii) espoused theology and (iv) operant theology.3 Cameron et al argue that these voices are intertwined, and that together they express the whole of Christian theology.4 The team 's main thesis is that practice is essentially theology, and that theology subsequently is embodied throughout the life of the Church and expressed in the lived practice of the Church through these four theological voices.5 Cameron et al is clear that this model should not be seen a complete description, but rather serve as a interpretative working tool for theological reflection upon how practice and theology are connected.6 Critique of the method While Cameron et al do not explicitly describe any specific direction of movement in the communication between the four voices, they argue that there may be a rather significant relationship between the normative and formal theology on the one hand, and the espoused and operant theology on the other.7 They also suggest that the model enables a challenging of formal and normative
If an author is able to get the reader to question their own moral and ethics, they are more likely to change others views on a topic. Michaelson stated that there are a number of priest who have turned out to be child molesters. (Block, W. & Cussen, M., 2000). The bible says that Christians shall not judge others. It is very common for those of the Christian faith to sin and goes against the word of the bible.
Church is a place one goes to worship a greater power. Just because one goes to church does not mean he has the right intentions. In the Canterbury tales Chaucer shows an excellent example of a person with not good intentions. Chaucer uses satire to illustrate church corruption throughout The Pardoner’s Tales. “The love of money is the root of all evil.”
They like we forgot that faithfulness is a constant daily choice we have to make and also a consistent conviction we have to hold. Judges 2:6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. It must be a consistent conviction it requires daily renewal parents you must be consistently reinforcing the truth of biblical Christianity with your children we must each succeeding generations to be faithful!
There is an abundance songs out there today and some people can relate to them all or some of the songs. No matter if the song is country, gospel, rap, or hip hop they can make people feel different emotions such as sadness, happiness, peacefulness or a mix of all emotions. For me, a lover of all music, especially, country, I can relate to a countless amount of songs like for example, Tim McGraw sings a wonderful, heart reaching song called "Better than I used to be". A song about coming past the flaws and the negative situations from the past and realizing there is a diamond under all the dust and that diamond is the person who better himself to be someone other than the past them. I can relate to this song for various reasons, but the most important is I changed myself for the better.
There are three dimensions to ministry, that of Bishop, Priesthood, and the
through message of love and kindness. It is the church main reason why their behavior of this sort is sown. The church must seek to bear fruit of love and compassion in the lives of those losing faith in God. Faith is important and powerful in every unexpected situation in anyone’s life here on earth.
Like Timothy, we need to seek God to become the Christian leader that God intends us to be. By seeking God, the Holy Spirit fills us with the power, love and self-discipline to minister to those God puts in our paths. We need to follow where He leads so that we can be a living example to those around us. Not all of us are called to be preachers or teachers, but God uses all of us to reach people of all ages and walks of life. We need to give God our fears and insecurities so that we can do the work that God has called us to do.
