Diversity in Our Own lives Think about where you live. On your street are the people around you all similar, or are there some people who have different race, political views, gender, religious practices, education, and age? We tend to want to group ourselves with people like us. You might not even notice that you’re doing it either. Most of the time it just comes naturally. When you meet someone new you start talking, and you might find something in common with them. When you find things that you have in common with someone you’re starting some type of connection based just off similarities between you, and someone else. It’s easy to be yourself where you are comfortable, and with people you are comfortable with. I agree with David Brooks that we group ourselves with people we are comfortable with because it helps us feel a sense of stability. There is diversity when it comes to race, age, and education. For example, my manager is a lady of color, and my assistant manager is Hispanic. All the employees ages ranges from 45 to 23 to 19, and more ages in between. Finally, our education is different. I am the only one in college while the rest of the employees were finished after high school. The one thing that isn’t diverse about where I work; we are all females. I’ve been working there a total of 6 months, and I have never seen a male interested in coming to work at the Children’s Place. I understand why though. A male probably would not want to work in a store with all females. Who could they really relate to if they were the only male? Who would they have things in common with? Would it make that person feel like an outsider? If a guy was interested in finding a job, he would probably find a store with a lot of people like him; whether It be the same gender, age, or
but not just as a whole but as individuals. Being able to open up to people who are different from you and not judging anyone different. The equality, unity, and freedom to express their mood, lifestyle, food, culture, and ethnicity freely and others adapting to it or be mindful of it. The open community of accepting everyone and not choosing or judging something for it’s difference. Diversity is seen in many ways and means many things.
How could diversity in the United States potentially lead to collapse? There are many elements that contribute to collapse. Whether it’s on a larger scale, like a country, or on a smaller scale, like a family. There is an infinite amount. But the most important one, is diversity.
One of the most interesting places for me to see diversity in action is at the movie theater. Through out the world there are many companies that are working the same task as us, but in different race, gender, language, religion, education and skills. Although these companies are different they share the same goals and that is called diversity. Many of the components that make a company unique are how diversity is applied in an organization. More specific, “Sephora operates approximately 1,900 stores in 29 countries worldwide, with an expanding base of over 360 stores across North America.” As a result, employees will adapt to any change in the environment more rapidly than those who do not offer diversity in their companies, since diversity breeds innovation and innovation breeds business success.
Diversity may mean different things to different people. To me, diversity is exactly that, being different and unique. Diversity makes the world a beautiful place to be, and full of interesting and different people. The beauty of human civilization lies in its diverse groups and cultures.
In the sense that they have the same interests, background, culture, and talk the same. It creates a sense of belonging. An experiment was done that took babies and showed them two dolls, a white baby was shown a white doll and a black doll. They white baby chose the white doll. A black baby was also shown the same two dolls.
My personal experience with diversity started in the military. Back then, I was a young female Airman on the way to my first deployment, after arriving at the airport with no one to meet me. Taking a taxi to the nearest base happened to be the solitary idea that passed over my head. The following day, I found myself at the wrong base; so a car proceeded to pick me up. While speaking to my unit I noticed a strange tone in their voice.
Well our race is a culture in which shapes us; it shapes our identity and influences our behavior. Tom saying was that our country is more diverse than any time in the past, and that is correct in my opinion. Our people of the United States represent a strong of different ethnic groups. I look at this scenario as a strength. Because each culture provides an own special and irreplaceable contribution to our understanding of America today.
It is imperative that the superhero world embraces diversity. When we include diversity in superhero narratives it allows and encourages minority youth to learn their history, embrace their culture and increases their self-esteem. When kids see African American superheroes it gives them the feeling that they can connect or maybe even be in those shoes one day. Also kids need several ways to learn more about their culture because textbooks are not gonna cut it in the next few years. If every show or cartoon was made of white people it would feed right into the world that we the people created far as race and color.

Q: What is your personal statement on diversity? Diversity is being different from others. People have to acknowledge that not everyone is alike in the world. We are different and we have many ways to show that we are unique, ordinary, creative and open minded individuals. Everyone is unique in their own way because knowing the fact that you can show your true colors, is what brings peoples attention to wanting to get to know one another and know more about that unique individual.
On Young’s view, social groups are the used to categorise different people into different groups. In each social group, the members of that group share the same features; for example, in the group of SFU alumni, members of this group must share at least one same feature which is graduated from SFU. Moreover, people use social groups to identify who they are. Social groups are for people to describe where they belong to, or represent for. These features of social groups can distinguish one group of people from the other groups.
In the past, I found myself identifying myself to have commonalities with people surrounding me. When I was surrounded by a diverse group of people, I would find that I would gravitate towards those who appeared to have something in common with me. I believe I was drawn towards people of the same age range, race, and culture the same as my own because it is something familiar. Although I still think that I gravitate towards individuals like myself, I believe I try to branch out and meet others individuals that differ from me more than I did in that past. Now, I shape my own identity.
